one of the coolest things about my new job is a lot of the information i get to learn, study, and digest.
we're doing a lot of content on Generation Y - the youngest generation in our workforce - and Pew Research just released this report...
at some point, i'll work on devouring the entire document, but the linked synopsis contains pretty neat stuff, some of which was surprising...
i'm gonna review and post some of the findings that i found interesting, and i'd love for anyone who has an interesting in the topic matter to contribute.
as an aside - i'd love if this were to stay free of politics and the judgmental crap that has bogged down the other threads. yes, there are political and moral issues involving in this sort of polling, and while it wouldn't make sense to ignore it, i'd prefer it be looked at from an information point of view, and not a political point of view.

It is all a new world order to make us slaves to the Marxists...
I was surprised by this line "Nearly one-in-four have a piercing in some place other than an earlobe". Most everything else i think i read before somewhere else or fits my experiences.
Also interesting the graphic on the the different generations and how it seems that Generation X has nothing to identify itself with, also it seems that I moved from generation X to millianal how did that happen? I guess that is why they call generation X the lost generation.

in regards to Gen X - at one point, we were a "lost" generation. in fact, early on, we were called the "Baby Bust" generation, but that didn't stick.
but as Gen X got into the workforce, things changed, the image of us changed, and ultimately, it became obvious we were equipped to lead business and change the world.

1964 (sometimes 1965) is considered the end of the Baby Boom era (which started 1946).
The Echo Boom babies are 1980-1999.

My grampa was in WWII, my ma was born in 43, my sister was born in in 65.
Always thought her as the first of the echo boom.
I don't understand the demographics I guess.

This is a surprise. Does anyone know exactly what they are talking about. I don't have a facebook. It says friends or fans.

As the newest and least facebook savvy user, I will nonetheless be the first to suggest that most everything posted to facebook carries the option afterwards for the reader to add their approval...For example: Sunday at 3:54pm via FarmVille · Comment · Like Unlike · Get some So I would expect this means that users reading about Texas universities when mentioned on a facebook wall, don't just read about them, but bother to express their approval as well. Since it's easier to just move on, and no one bothers to take a survey after everything they read, it carries some kind of significance when someone actually does.

in this case, it's not commentary, as much as number of people who like something. "likes" for places and such are akin to "friends" for people.

So what did they click on?
I notice facebook constantly wants me to be aware that MBJ 'likes' 'magic hat beer'. They prolly bribed him with a coupon or something to click on 'like'.

So what did they click on?
they went to the page of that respective university, and clicked "like".

he could, ya know, genuinely like Magic Hat beer.
in fact, thanks for letting me know. now i'm gonna "like" it too.
that's how social media works, and that's why FB constantly wants you to be aware of what he likes. so you can like it too.
if i were your friend, and i didn't have 600 or so other friends out there diluting the chances of any particular ad popping up for me, it would be telling me you like FarmVille and Happy Aquarium and that i should play too.
