Subject: OT: How to take up donations?

so, about three days ago, i started this silly group on Facebook called "1,000,000 People Who Want to Plug the BP Oil Spill with Sarah Palin"...
obviously, it started as a joke, and i honestly was blown away when 100 people had joined.
well, now i'm at just under 19,000 members, and about 11,000 of those have joined in the past 18 hours. it is no longer growing fractionally, but rather exponentially.
with that kind of following, i want to see if i can somehow set something up to give to some of the charities helping the Gulf Coast, like the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana and the Greater New Orleans Foundation, and perhaps a few places like the American Bird Conservancy and Oceana, both of whom will be donating time, money, and resources to the clean up.
as this FB page grows, i figure if i can get $1 from a bunch of folks, it could turn into a sizable donation.
i know paypal has some sort of way to do, and whatgives.com gives you a way to do it on Facebook, but basically, i have no clue as to how to do this.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd contact your targeted charity directly and let them walk you through it. They likely could set up the link themselves even. They should be able to, anthough they may not want a direct connection to a partisan slam oriented (no offense) site.

I think Al Gore would have been a better choice.

This is probably OT, but tree weren't you also part of that group which expressed dismay at the joke about praying for Obama's death? Maybe not (and if not, I apologize). But if you were, isn't this kind of the same thing?

Pd - someone else pointed that out...I never suggested we kill her....in fact, I would be 100% against her being put down there without a breathing apparatus...

I couldn't help but laugh when you made hourly updates on the numbers of it. If you see other things getting a million fans like "I eat my own shorts" why do you think it's so amazing you get people to yours. Honestly while you were tooting your own horn I thought it was moving slowly :'P

We probably all could use a sense of humor. If I thot there was one in a million chance he literally meant it, I wouldn't go this route, but since there isn't let's just laff along. Not even as menacing as 'we all chipped in for a bag of cement' which song I don't remember any howls about.

I really don't think anyone with common sense would take the "death" angle seriously. It's obvious satire.
The only people who will be offended are those who worship at the altar of Sarah.
Baldwin is right, have a little sense of humor.

Agreed.
I would make a distinction between this and any references to assassinating Obama, however. He has received a whole passel of serious death-threats, so humorous? Not so much.

if Palin hadn't been so gung ho with the drill baby drill bit, and the things she's said since, it wouldn't be nearly as funny as me.
i've actually deleted some of the more inflammatory and sexist photos and comments made, either as i've seen them, or as they were brought to my attention. i obviously can't catch them all at this point, but people have been decent enough.
i did take one thing from this boards, and apply it there - the fiasco regarding my joke about Palin's daughter. i've tried to delete comments and photos that involve the kids, and one person posted a photo of the entire family with "targets" on them.
i've even gotten some serious hate mail as well.
and Punk - for the record, i'm not tooting my own horn. i'm just shocked there are so many people joining...
