The policy of this forum is that copyrighted materials should not be republished without permission.

Apparently, the threat of detection and fines has escalated: Copyright Suits

If you wish to cite an article or publication, you may provide a link.

If anyone notices that any material has been copied in violation of this policy, please notify the moderators.

Literally not a word of block-quoting? PD thot at least a paragraph would be ok?

Don't worry, I'll follow to the letter whatever policy is decided.

Hillary used to dream of shutting up the internet.

Is Steven Gibson Obama's man and is Obama living the dream Hillary only fantacized about?

I repeat, the Stephens family of Stephen's Media, the only client of Gibson, is the highly corrupt sugar daddy of the Clintons.

can you, in at least one thread, keep your absurd politics out of it?

in a completely non-political thread, you find a way to attack the Clintons, and Obama.

what's the over-under before you start attacking Mexicans, Muslims, and gays?

What are the odds Obama, this low-life and the Clintons' sugar daddy would be so intertwined?

I wonder if the threat is so serious as to warrant going thru the links in the Poliboard and deleting all Stephens media links? I am thinking yes, if we can figure out a way to do it.

Of course nothing is ever really fully deleted from the internet.

The link in #3 is extremely telling.

Michelle Obama and Steven Gibson practiced INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW at the Chicago office of the law firm Sidley Austin, where she first met her future husband.

This is coincidental? You have to be a really committed coincidence theorist to believe that.

To what extent if any can it be blockquoted? Isn't everything by default copyrighted as soon as it is published?

No, everything enjoys copyright protection from the moment it appears in a fixed form. Publication doesn't matter anymore.

This doesn't mean fair use doesn't apply, but fair use, while often a successful and complete defense against a claim of copyright infringement, is determined in a case by case basis. It is my opinion (and I can provide links to knowledegable sources) that linking to an open page is not a copyright violation (even deep linking). And the very small amount of text normally quoted is also within fair use, particularly when accompanied by a link to the source.

Ultimately, thought, this is Guru's site. Our job is not to make him defend our pushing the envelope of fair use on his site and under his liability.

This has *nothing* to do with the Obamas. Companies using far reaching and bully tactics to protect their copyrights have decades and decades of history in this country. And that such things occur over the internet is of no surprise to anyone with even a cursory understanding of the history of the music industry.

Your reputation as a well know coincidence theorist is safe.

I am sure Dave Hall is very grateful for your advice in this matter as am I.

Sadly every blogger in the world just took a hit to the solar plexus from Michelle Obama's law partner and Hillary's sugar daddy.

Maybe Obama's nemesis, the bloggers will chill long enuff to prevent a complete blowout in November.

common sense takes a hit every time you post.

in threads like this, i'm reminded of when i used to take my dog out for a walk when he was a puppy, and he would piss on everything to proclaim it as his.

that's what you do when you post your clap trap in a thread that has nothing to do with your political thoughts. you piss on it, to make it yours.

this thread would have been a good thread on information, and on Guru's thoughts on the topic.

you had to go and turn it into yet another place for your to ramble on.

DWetzel - And what do your comments have to do with the original subject? If you and Tree would ignore his posts, they would stand out as possibly ridiculous comments, instead you take the bait, and dilute his extremism.

If he wouldn't make them and muck up the forum (as he does most places, it's just most glaringly obvious and off topic here), there'd be nothing to comment about.

Just once I'd like to see something productive done about it. At least I'd like to see other people who tend to stay out of it more than I do, say "hey Boldwin, maybe just this once you could stifle it for the good of the forum and not just spew the hatred EVERYWHERE".

But you're right, I'll try to refrain from commenting on his effluvium in the future. It's very hard to do and enjoy the rest of the forums, though.

I think it should be fine to cite small sections of other works, when used to make a point - especially if properly attributed, and with a link, if possible.

I'm more concerned about the occasional posts that copy and paste large sections of - and sometimes the entire - document.

Boldwin: If you think you know more about copyright law in order to make such a leap as the Obama's having anything to do with this, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Copyright work puts food on my table. I'd like to think I know enough to dismiss claims that the Obamas have had anything to do with this, particularly when you offer no proof--none at all--except that 19 years ago Michelle Obama did marketing and intellectual property work in a Chicago law firm.

If you'd got the proof, put it out there. Otherwise, in this case, wait for it to arrive before posting that you have some advantage over me in this area. You simply don't.

meaning, it's worth ignoring.

I'm more concerned about the occasional posts that copy and paste large sections of - and sometimes the entire - document.

especially when there is not an accompanying link or attribution.

Boxman used to copy and paste the entire Ann Coulter weekly column. I don't know why he did that. But, he's not around anymore.
