Some things are just so important you have to go hat in hand to China for a loan. Even in a depression.

and this needs it's own thread because...
i'm sure there are about about a billion "pet causes", from both the right and left, that we could ridicule. i'm also sure that if they're coming from a conservative lawmaker, you'd have no problem with it, no matter how silly.

But when only six percent of Americans trust the government to have created any jobs by spending almost one trillion of their dollars, the problem is much deeper than Fox News or the communications strategy of the White House. The underlying relationship between people and their government is fundamentally broken. - Peter Levine, uberliberal [italics mine]

It shows our educational system is broken, and has been for a long time. Just because we've failed to educate our populous on basic economic principals doesn't mean we have a political problem.
When we pay anybody with any sort of propensity for math 6 figures or more to make some silly web app that shows cats puking up transistor radios, but pay the same dude or lass 32K to teach or next (or last) generation how to add or understand basic econ 101, our society has made the wrong choice. Market-driven decision making will be the destruction of our society. If it hasn't destroyed it already.

Why is funneling 800 billion [in the middle of a depression] to the public sector to stimulate your political base for the next presidential election any smarter for the country economically?
