Subject: The Direction of the GOP V or Campaign 2016

Hopefully no one minds me starting a new thread. Part IV is well over 1500 posts and currently in a largely off-topic tangent.
So with a bloated thread and a new GOP-dominated congress in session and just two years until the 2016 election, this seems like a good time.
Further, perhaps there is a literal "new" direction of the GOP. A couple of items inthis week's news have me wondering whether we might be looking at a slightly softer, possibly more results-oriented and (dare I say it?) perhaps less obstructionist Direction of the GOP?
First: Politico: GOP makes U-turn on net neutralityThe language Republicans are using to talk about their proposed bill illustrates just how far the GOP has come on the issue. The principles embrace and even bolster ideas that were once controversial in Republican circles, like banning “paid prioritization,” the practice of charging content companies for an online fast lane.
Thune’s principles also include bans on blocking or throttling Web traffic and extending net neutrality protections to wireless networks, an idea put forward by Obama and congressional Democrats. At the same time, the GOP measure would tie the FCC’s hands, prohibiting it from reclassifying broadband as a utility under Title II of the Communications Act, or using other sections of the law to create new rules.
Still, the fact that Republicans are even talking about legislating net neutrality marks a stark departure from their past position. When a federal appeals court last year threw out the FCC’s previous attempt at net neutrality rules, Walden and House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) called the court decision “a victory for jobs and innovation … by keeping the government’s hands off the Internet” and preventing the government “from playing the role of traffic cop.” Even those furthest to the right on net neutrality appear to be open to working on legislation. In an interview last week, Thune said all his committee members are ready to work on a measure. “Obviously, not everybody is in lock step, and we haven’t shown a bill yet, but in terms of general principles, I think everybody is pretty much in the same place,” he said.
Thune’s committee includes Sen. Ted Cruz, who in November called net neutrality “Obamacare for the Internet.” Now, Cruz “looks forward to having a vigorous discussion on how we can best ensure the Internet remains a forum for freedom and innovation” as the FCC eyes stricter regulations, according to a Cruz spokesman. Clearly, a lot has changed in the Internet policy debate in the past year, shifting the political calculus. Whether it's born of pressure from constituents who were somehow not fooled by calling it Obamacare for the internet or a sufficient number of GOP lawmakers who privately disagree with the party line on the issue or the realization that they could still move part of their agenda forward while avoiding a veto on an otherwise unwinnable issue, just call me thankful that they have come around to what most of us have known for years is the no-brainer, common sense side of this "debate".
Then there's this: The Hill: GOP tatctics on Obamacare move away from full repeal In the past, some conservatives objected to any ObamaCare bills that fell short of full repeal. They argued it was impossible to fix the flawed legislation by doing anything other than fully repealing it. No more.
When the newly GOP-controlled Senate votes on its first anti-ObamaCare legislation in the next few weeks, none of its members is expected to block the bills, according to aides and lobbyists familiar with discussions.
“I’m guessing that they’ve had this ‘squirrel finds a nut’ moment of reasonableness,” one Senate GOP aide said.
The party remains far from consensus on how to handle the law, but threats from the its far-right members have largely faded as members look to show a GOP Congress can govern ahead of 2016, when the party hopes to retake the White House.
“If we can show that we can lead, we might get an even bigger majority in 2016. We might get the White House,” the aide said. “Republicans can say, ‘See, we were right? Put us in charge, and we’ll repeal the whole damn thing.’ ” And that's really the hope as far as I'm concerned, that the party has realized that the hardline and obstructionist "you're with us or you're a commie RINO" attitude that the GOP has fallen subject to over the past 6+ years might finally be abating. |

You should have watched the crap they pulled off in Allen West's ballot counting. Biggest bunch of Dem cheaters I could have imagined in my worst dreams. I watched that count live in part. I had no idea just what brazen cheats they could be. Every last one of them, far as I could tell, glaring at the camera's as they were caught red handed and so brazen they were willing to steal it on camera.
Then just watch the testimony of what that woman from Texas True-the-Vote had to go thru.
She is so needed.

To make a mistake that results in the loss of a human life is a burden no human heart can bear. If this happens to someone, and they cannot cope with the guilt, they can easily become a danger to themselves, those that are close to them and society as a whole.
The only thing worse is no acknowledgement of the mistake, and a psychopathic conclusion. Now that result would truly be criminal.
What were we talking about again? Presidential elections?

People who twice voted for a guy who...
1) put Boko Haram back in power after they lost their Nigerian elections
2) put the muslim brotherhood [mother of al qeada] in charge of Egypt
3) put al qaeda in charge of Libya
4) put ISIS in charge of east Syria and west Iraq

Interesting take: Everyone who likes Rubio likes someone else more.
I'll buy that, but I still say no one on the right will ever trust him on the borders. So he's also a guaranteed loser as the right sit's on their hands and like Romney's election, @8million of them find they can't make it to the polls even if it means Queen Hillary.

Timothy Egan is giddy at the prospect of Republicans remaking themselves as the racist party.
Well, maybe they are just finally deciding to advertise it.
Tosses out a statistic - something trump doesn't have time for:
...whites accounted for 71 percent of all sexual assaults in 2013, even though they are only 63 percent of the population, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Latinos, though 17 percent of the population, committed 9 percent of sex crimes.

If Bill was Slick Willie then Hillary has to be Slimy Hillary. The arrogance she displays by thinking she is above the law is astounding. I guess she figures if Bill can wag his finger at the American people and get away with it then she can wag both her middle fingers and get elected.
It also looks like she sent classified documents illegally. Given that the 38% of core Democrats will vote for anyone to retain power, she could be the 2nd Clinton to be impeached.
The Republican nominee needs to keep harping on the trust factor.

any Republican nominee that harps on trust will likely have it turned on them.
while it's a long time until the election, the fact that there isn't a republican who could beat someone as pock-marked as Hillary Clinton at this point in time doesn't bode well for the republicans.

Scott Adams' Blog
If you’re keeping score, in the past month Trump has bitch-slapped the entire Republican Party, redefined our expectations of politics, focused the national discussion on immigration, proposed the only new idea for handling ISIS, and taken functional control of FOX News. And I don’t think he put much effort into it. Imagine what he could do if he gave up golf.
As far as I can tell, Trump’s “crazy talk” is always in the correct direction for a skilled persuader. When Trump sets an “anchor” in your mind, it is never random. And it seems to work every time.

True. He forced the rest of the field to be very direct about their xenophobia, and likely destroyed any long-term hope of capturing anything other than a single-digit Latino vote for the next several election cycles. Given demographics trends, this will relegate the Republican party to being the party of the racist south and rural backwaters.

And certainly don't trust your own eyes...
Ignore the fact that Obama first signaled an invitation for unaccompanied children from central America and then demanded $3.7 billion in emergency funding for escort services to pay for this new tragedy.
Ignore the DHS superhighway Obama built to insert illegals everywhere richly bribing church groups to handle local arrangements.
Obama built concierge services to maximize and increase Illegal's access to government benefit programs.
Obama shredded the background check system for amnesty and added a two year freedom from deportation deferment....you know, because he is so eager to deport.
People know. You Dems aren't fooling anyone but yourselves. And plenty of Dems notice too.
I seriously believe Trump will pick up a huge Democrat component if he gets the nomination, specifically over this issue.
Polls show that 49% of blacks now believe this flood of illegal immigrants significantly take away jobs from America's black community. Up from @33%.

I don't do this sort of research, but it looks like Pew's methodology has been at least consistent. And no, it's not based on expired Visas.
If you think it's crap now, than you gotta call it crap over the last 25 years as all you xenophobes were howling for spending a trillion or 2 on fifty foot walls and automatic machine guns every 100 feet from San Diego to Boca Raton.

http://www.pewresearch.org/2013/04/17/unauthorized-immigrants-how-pew-research-counts-them-and-what-we-know-about-them/
Question: How many illegal aliens are there in the US.
Answer: Who the F*** knows, but this is what our SWAG is based on..... .
The inability of our nation to easily identify people in spite of the readily available technology and procedures, speaks to a wide variety of issues in our society. If not for "invasion of privacy" concerns, this and many more issues involving identity fraud would be easier to fix.
