0 Subject: League E(lite) Season 4

New season calls for a new thread.

TB's predictions:

National League

San Diego overtakes San Fran and wins the NL West. San Fran still has a strong team and will be the wild card but BPG is done messing around.

New York looks to have a strong hold on the East. Hopefully he has figured out what to do with all that excess pitching. Yes he did, trade them to Chicago, wayward home for declining aged vets.....lol

Cubs have basically the same talent to win the Central again. Houston and Milwaukee won't make it easy.

American League

Toronto and Boston battle for the top spot in the East. If Brock posts that he is going to win it all this year he will doom himself and Bluto will win it again.

Kansas City dukes it out with the Sox. KC has shown what great pitching can do and should win their division again.

Oakland is primed and ready. Anaheim has a great team and it will be a good season for both. Oakland will have their number this year, though.

Oakland beats New York in 6 for the World Series. I told J to trade me Fogg but he just wouldn't listen. Now I gotta go win the Series.

This is my year. If you have some high priced vets and are delusional about winning the Series, save yourself some money and trade them.

Actually TB, decreasing wins to .8 would just increase the value of IP and K. I was actually thinking that maybe we should decrease IP to .8 while sticking with (wins * 10) and K. The way to make ERA and WHIP more important is to make losses less important. .2 or .1, either way is probably OK.

I'm thinking we need a different formula for closers, because W and IP should probably be less important than they are for starters, and saves should count more. I'd also like to make WHIP matter more because the variations are less. How about this for closers:

(Saves * 10) + (Wins * 5) + IP + K
divided by
ERA + (2 * WHIP) + (.1 * losses) + (.2 * (G - Saves))

(The last part is to account for blown saves. We could take it out if it doesn't work.)

I don't agree with taking games minus saves for blown saves because I generally use my closer in the middle relief slot once per week. Also, if my middle relief gets injured for a game or two I move my closer up to take his place until he returns. It would be nice if the commish added a blown saves category, but I'm not sure it would be very accurate. I still see pitchers get wins when they should get saves, and many times errors do not result in unearned runs when they should. For now, I think the order of importance for relievers whould be Sv, whip, era, Losses (negative), and lastly Wins because I don't feel we should reward a closer that blows a save and then falls into a win. I don't think K's should be included because outs are outs-it shouldn't matter how a pitcher gets them.

For relievers I like a simple formula like:

(5*SV-3*L+W)/(ERA*WHIP^2)

This equates 5 saves to a win, and takes 3 wins to make up for a loss. It also gives WHIP a little more weight than ERA. I ran the formula on several different made up stats, but have not run it yet on last season's stats to see who comes out on top.

I have no problem with taking out games minus saves. You're probably right about wins too, we should devalue them even more for closers. And WHIP could be counted more. I do think K's should matter some though. At least in real life it's a sign of how dominating the pitcher is. What about this for closers:

(Saves * 10) + Wins + Strikeouts
divided by
ERA + (3 * WHIP) + (losses * .2)

Yours looks good to me too, though I still think K's should be in there somewhere - what about:

(5*SV-3*L+W+(.5*K))/(ERA*WHIP^2)

So 10 K's equals a save.

Great job guys!!! I think the formulas that BPG came up with some help from others, will work very good. I agree with skiny's 98 post 100% AND BPG i am giving you props for those formulas, now we have someting to work with.
SO far we got:

hitters
(OPS * OPS * games played) + ((Runs + RBI + SB)* .25
SP

[(Wins * 10) + IP + strikeouts] / [ERA + WHIP + (Losses * .1)]

RP
(5*SV-3*L+W+(.5*K))/(ERA*WHIP^2)

thanks for the ideas. i really appreciate people who try to help improve the league. And with this we could use these formula's for all stars and use say the top 5-10 for Cy,mvp, foy, and roy and vote on those few.

peace

Forget about Bonds! League E's got James Blair. Hitting .300 with 20 homers and 50 RBI's and we're only 4 "weeks" into the season. He's on pace for 90 homers and 225 RBI's.

Now that I've jinxed him, he's available for a quality starting pitcher and a decent third baseman to fill in...

Time to brag for the AL team with the most wins.....

Brock sucks I spanked his ass. How are you bring in Rakers in the game Brock? You know I had to kill him.

Skineej dont even bring them weak pitchers here. I spanked your ass to. Scored 27 runs in 3 games at your house. The division is all mine.

Matt G.. only played yo one game so far, but of coure i won like i should 99.9 percent of the time.

PP - I don't know how old you are or how much math you've had but where I'm from, 26 is more than 24.

You got lucky against my bullpen. I rocked 2 of your 3 starters but unfortunately only won 1 game. You'll be mine next time. I've owned you since season 1 and I don't see that changing.

Refering to the trade I made, No I wasn't on Acid. Nor anything else, I know it seems a little lopsided but Kerins hasn't done sh!t for me since I got him. Getting rid of him brings my payroll down. I wanted to Move May to the Bullpen cause He blows as an SP and actually pitches well in LR and Williams is horrible as LR but can be a decent closer at time. I liked the guys I got cause I needed a 5th starter to replace Mays and I figured I would need a little depth at SP when Grybowski retires since he's 38. May is also 39. I know what I am doing with this team, it may be a couple years before I contend, but I have a direction I know where I am headed.

Lets see here........What happened today between Worm and San Fran you ask......well first of all worm left wammies at 12:30 today in order to meet san fran at the designated place by 2:00. i had to ride a piss/vomit laced subway 20 minutes after a 30 minute drive in bumper to bumper traffic. keep in mind i missed the cubs game in which they won to keep a commanding lead on the cardinals. but i arrived 10 minutes early to the spot we were to meet. i waited, and waited, and waited. no san fran. i gave him a 30 minute time table to show. he never showed. so back on the piss/vomit subway, back to the car and back to the traffic. got back to wammies in time to catch the ninth inning of the game. got a hold of san fran and he said that the meeting place wasnt confirmed. well it was. so we re-scheduled the event to take place thursday. there will be pics taken for anyone interested. it should be a good time though non-the-less.

also in my journey to boston i found out that i only live 30 miles from one p2er named brock. which in that case maybe i could continue my winning ways against brock when i return home. also ironically july 26 i am going to be at wrigley field in which case i believe pp lives in chicago and am wondering if he would like to take the game in with worm. i may have one extra ticket that i would be willing to part with. so if you two are interested let me know.

right now i have to get back to my hotel and find out what kind of entertainment i can get tonight.

peace out

Define what a horse is?

I have Rocky Williamson 465 468 317 460, total rating 1710, PQ 429.6, who is currently 1-2 with a 9.27 ERA. In 24 career games he is 7-9 with a 5.79 ERA.

Or perhaps we could use Rip Wells 443 446 310 492, total rating 1691, PQ 427.4 and his current 6.47 ERA. He is 2-5 in 8 games this season. 15 walks and 17 K's in 32 innings this season. Tell me what Control rating means again?

Probably too much value on a horse. Look at Ralph Moss 464 397 412 371, total rating 1644, PQ 408.3, he is 4-3 with a 3.67 ERA. Good enough for 14th in the AL.

My personal favorite "Stud" is Barry Short 399 471 398 390, 1658 total rating, PQ 412.86, 4-2 with a 4.03 ERA. Even with his sub 400 control he has more K's then walks. If 400 is supposed to be an average MLB stat, which we know it isn't, he is below average in all his pitches but that wicked breaking ball.

I thought I was seeing a trend here and maybe answering my own question. Perhaps the further away from 400 any one stat is, the worse a guy will pitch. That doesn't explain guys like Mellana, Ramsay, Robertson, and the examples are endless.....

Ranting? Nope, I am confident these guys can turn it around. I do wonder exactly how important ratings can be on any given sim.

Question for somebody. when you are preparing your for the draft and go to set your round by round draft prefernce, down towards the bottom it says "max picks" and lets you select 0-9. What does that mean? I know it is probably simple but can't think what it would mean, we can only pick one player per round as far as I know.

Wammie, you get my Nerd emails?

I bet you feel pretty dumb for saying the commish hasn't been doing anything when he set up a new server and added some awesome changes?

Replying to emails you can leave the old message attached. Look at the draft options. You can choose how many you want to select at each position(the max number). That will prevent me from drafting more then 5 RP's and 2 catchers any given year.

The new site is quicker and I have gotten less server errors while running my test team, so I am hopeful that trend continues.

i didnt bring a ball with me and from the way wammie was talking he doesnt have one. so thank you for bringing that fact up. yes, please bring yours.

I don't know. We didn't get our morning sim in the test league. I wouldn't mind an extra day, but I am going to set all my drafts up today just in case.

We keep getting shorted on pitching prospects in league E(lite). I just rated all my pitchers and it is pathetic. The guys in H were bitching that it's a weak draft. I have yet to see P2/E's best draft better then any other leagues worst draft.
