The All-Star Game is quickly approaching and you know what that means...yeah, good old, err should I say young, Prospect Draft.

Now leading up to the draft, my access is going to be little to none. The draft will start on Monday July 14th. I should be home that evening sometime, but will prob. need someone else to get the ball rolling as I will be gone starting on Fri. July 11th. Hopefully I will have spot access just in case.

Anyhow, just so it doesn't catch you off-guard, here are some dates you need to be thinking about...

July 7th at the roster freeze is the deadline for prospects. At that time, if your prospect is no longer prospect-eligible, you lose him. That is also the time when draft picks are determined. So if you no longer want a prospect on your team, you must renounce him before that time. You may call him up to your team permanently, then renounce him as a prospect. That is also the day we use the current standings as our draft order. We will inverse the standings and then run the lottery. Everyone will be in the lottery whether you have any picks or not. If you don't have any picks, your turn is simply skipped. (That is the case for each round). One year we only had two rounds.

Complete rules are on the CBS site. They are very detailed, so please read them. Then if you still have a question, please ask. I have to re-read them a lot myself.

Then I realized he totally beat me to Scutaro, and I have to have him BADLY. How about a 4th for my 10th, GO? ;-)

I can't believe I am doing so well due to all these injuries. Wang is out at least 6 weeks now. Anyone interested in him? I am not sure I cac carry so many injured players.

Chien-Ming Wang could miss the rest of the season after suffering a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament of the right foot and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot.

He won't need surgery, but he'll be on crutches and wearing a protective boot for at least six weeks. The Journal News speculates that even if he's fully healthy at that point, it would take four weeks for him to return to pitching shape, making a late August return the best case scenario.

To me, that should make your decision to trade him simpler though, instead of hoping he might come back... cause a team out of contention looking for a pitcher would be well served to give something up to get him and lock him up for next year etc. Plus his injury isn't his shoulder/elbow so its not a pitching injury that would leave most scared. It was a freak thing.

I want to option Ian Stewart back down to my prospect list.

I assumed that dropping him was ok and I wouldn't lose my rights on him by doing that. Would've waited but I didn't think Patterson would've lasted long on the FA list and I'm going to be without access until tomorrow.

Well he always remains on your prospect list regardless. The danger in doing what you did is that if he had hit the thresholds you would have lost him as a prospect and he doesn't have a salary. You can't add a salary to a player unless he is on a team. Really want to discourage managers from doing this.

Have I ever mentioned how much I despise the lineup freeze being 30 minutes before the start of the first game? Yeah, I thought so. Since I have two starting pitchers on the bench I'm sure they'll both have great games.

BH, I was looking at the espn site, but I don't think I have commish capabilities so I couldn't see how easy it would be to move the league. Could you add some players and start the league or whatever is necessary so I can look at the features and interface etc?

Yeah, it really sucks--wanted to move out of Crede since I hear he was injured, and no go a half hour before the first game

And some of these games don't start for hours.

I don't think you can claim "worst team" since PD and I are battling for that honor. If you want to take "worst manager" since your team was thought to compete this year then by all means stake your claim ;-)

I could be in the running for that one too, but I'm opting for "most underachieving" team instead as that sounds better :)

Cards, I have started to enter some teams into the ESPN league. I started with my own team. I took the player rater and put every 8th player on my team, so I have something like a roster. You can also do this - it's under the "LM Tools" menu. Do a couple teams and we'll figure it out.

bh, I can't seem to do anything. I can't seem to add players. If I click on Players I get the message: "This page is locked while your LM enters offline draft results"

When I click on my team, I don't see any options under "action" or any way to add players. If I click on League, I don't see a way to enter players from an offline draft and if I click "keepers" I get the same message I posted above.

I had to do the whole thing myself. That's fine - it's done now. All of the teams are populated, and you should see current standings (pro-rated, and of course I'm in first), and all unowned players are currently on waivers. Have a look.

Unfortunately, I used the settings that were there at the time, and it looks like they were changed back in April (when we first had the discussion). The default settings are 5x5 standard, but that doesn't matter because we can certainly replicate G20.

By the way, I'm still looking to deal Jon Rauch in G20 and I'll certainly include Chad Cordero in a deal.

Or Brian Bannister and Bronson Arroyo for mid-round picks. Actually, I'm pretty happy to have found those two on waivers because I think they'll have a hot streak at some point.

Well there are some objections to this trade. Guess I should have researched Burton before I oked it for my team. It takes 7 to veto it. Last I looked there were 3 objects.

I guess there are at least 3 other managers, plus BH, who overvalue a guy with a .293 OBP (.244 the last 14 days).

This is a future move for me, intended to bring in a closer-in-waiting now while dumping an overvalued "slugger." He's a free swinger who has been struggling all season and has been on my bench, for the most part, as a result.

With just Todd Jones bring in saves I wanted to look to get at least a couple more from someone this year, while having a guy with a good chance at getting the closer job full-time next year when Jones has probably retired.

PD - Burton has looked great, but with Valverde signed for 3 more years for huge money, do you really think Burton has a chance at the closer's role? Cincinnati certainly wouldn't trade a young, CHEAP, effective set up man, so he seems pigeonholed, and setup men with little closing chance (outside of injury) are, while valuable, a dime a dozen.

Franceour's OBP is pathetic, but he is still a 2-time 100 RBI man and 20-25 HR hitter with 85-ish runs for some nice counting stats. No he isn't a prime keeper anymore but still a worthwhile player in this league.

I am neutral on my thoughts of the deal, if PD thinks he may have a closer-in-waiting then thats worth jumping on, seeing as how valuable closers are in this league. Burton's K numbers are filthy this year.

Reds are rumored to be trading away veterans like Griffey and Dunn... and I wonder if they wouldn't trade Cordero too if it got them another good young player.

I think the Reds will be remaking themselves this year (pre-deadline) and the offseason. If Burton doesn't move up, they might consider moving him to a team in need of a closer next year (Detroit/Cleveland/NYY?).

I like Cordero (though he seemed to have a very sharp home/away stats split), but he's very expensive and won't really get a ton of saves this year or next. I've been a fan of the Reds since college and hope they do well, but they have the look of a team about to be remade and Burton's stock will rise as a result.

I watch the Reds and still am not familliar with Burton though he's pitched a few times that I've watched. Didn't stand out as particularly impressive to me.

Being a Cordero holder, I hope that he gets some more saves--I don't care about which team it is for!!! The announcers talk about Cordero with fondness. They also talk a lot about Griffey. While he may or may not go to the Rays, I think the team are fine with keeping him if need be. I figured as soon as he hit 600, he'd be dealt--but it hasn't happened yet at least.

I don't care how much Fran slumps, he's going to have a place in the lineup with that sniper rifle he has in that throwing arm. I agree with Species that he will help your counting stats in this league. There are better players on the wire than Burton statistically so unless there is some inside info about him becoming a closer, this is a big gamble IMM. Regardless, it shouldn't be vetoed.

Chamberlain has now been removed as a prospect for bj21. Hochevar has already been removed, so I'm guessing that ref did that one before he announced it.

Ellsbury and Votto are called up and are not eligible to be sent down as they are over the limits so must be removed. If Justin Upton has two ABs today he must be removed as well. A few other prospects are over the limits but not called up so they don't have to be dropped or called up until before the deadline on Monday.

There could be more, but I just looked at the guys I recognized as may be close to the thresholds.

Of 'batter' prospects that currently have an assigned salary of '1' (not currently called up) the only player I see over the limits right now is Lastings Milledge. Andy Marte is at 333 abs but was a round 1 pick so he is covered by the 400 ab rule and is safe.

All of the 'pitcher' prospects that currrently have an assigned salary of '1' (not currently called up) seem to be OK. Hughes is very close but his injury means he will be fine.

This is just a public service message and not binding so everyone is still responsible to check their own.

I have not checked any player without a currently assigned value of '1', so in other words, I haven't checked any player currently called up.

I removed the salary from Milledge and removed him from PDs prospect list.

PD, he wasn't a free agent and was legally your prospect still since he wasn't called up yet and hadn't hit the limits by the start of the season. Once someone is called up and then goes over the limit (meaning he couldn't be sent down again anyway) or is over the limit at one of the two checkpoints, then they would no longer be considered a prospect. If you hadn't called him up now, then at the ASB deadline he would have become a free agent.

Hope that clears it up.

I don't understand what an OBP league has to do wiht anything? Fran stinks in an avg. league too in that cat.

But halfway through he still has 8 HRs 41 Runs and 40 RBIs. He's had 330 ABs so he's gonna get his opps. Last year he had 84 Runs 19 HRs and 105 RBIs and the eyar before had similar numbers except with 29 HRs. He also will give you 3-5 SBs per year. I'm not saying he will revert back to '06 form, but his counting stats could be useful. OBP is just one cat.

Burton doesn't start and has a 1.31 WHIP. His best attribute is probably his K/IP or his 2.5 K/BB. His ERA isn't bad at 2.44 but he's a reliever--and several have similar numbers. Pitching in a hitters park half the time and you'd expect those numebrs to even climb a little. Still PD obviously made this trade in hopes that he lands a closer role somewhere for next year. If he does, he keeps him. If not, well he obvioulsy wasn't planning on keeping Fran anyhow. I think THAT is what Toral is referring to and I think most of us probably would agree at this point. Albeit, I still think Fran isn't washed up just yet since the Braves will give him every AB with that arm defensively. Still with only 9 keepers per year--an OF guy with so so numbers and a keeper are a dime a dozen. Burton is even worth less though unless he can get saves. Neither will likely be kept though so I don't think it's a big deal at all. Definitely not objectionable IMM.

I think Slizz and myself have copyrighted the lottery ticket methodology of fantasy managing lol...

I'd say Francoeur and Burton are both lottery tickets. I wouldn't even say that Francoeur is a better one. Burton's upside is as a closer, and I'm already way up there in saves this year and have two closers on my roster who I have been actively trying to peddle (three if you count Chad Cordero, who fits that description).

I'd rather gamble on finding a hitter worth keeping. The odds are longer, but the result is better, if it happens.

Ref, I don't think you'll find too many relievers who are young, have a good K rate, are among the first who will lay claim on a closer job, and have an ERA anywhere near Burton. I know this because I've been looking for them all season. If you can find anybody, let me know and I'll see if I can pick em up.

According to WIFN's Bill Shanks, the Braves have sent Jeff Francoeur to Double-A and are calling up Jason Perry to replace him.

We were hoping to get some additional confirmation here, but it's looking like that will be impossible until the morning. It's perfectly reasonable for the Braves to believe that Francoeur would have an easier time breaking out of his slump in the minors than in the majors, but they're taking a big defensive downgrade by subtracting him from their outfield and they don't have any great choices to replace him. Jordan Schafer isn't hitting in Double-A, and while the Braves have been hyperaggressive with top prospects before, they're not going to haul up Jason Heyward from low-A ball this year. Perry, a quad-A player with big numbers this year, gets the nod and probably would have even if Brandon Jones happened to be eligible to rejoin the team. Still, he may only stick until Matt Diaz returns. Ideally, Francoeur would put a few good games together and rejoin the team right after the break.

I'll email everyone as well just in case, but the deadline to renounce any prospect is the freeze MONDAY--which looks like will be 12:10 PM ET. At that time, the draft picks will be set. If any player is found to be illegal, they will be lost. Cards and I have went skimmed over them and identified a few. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. See our prospect rules for help.

Remember that if your prospect hits the threshold after the freeze, then that player will have to be kept as part of your 9 if you'd like to retain him for next year. So strategize accordingly.

Standings for the draft order and lottery draw will be determined after Sunday's games (Mon morning).

Hopefully Cards will be able to kick off the draft for us. I'll try and get everything ready but I will be out of town three days prior to that as well (11-14 all told) and unsure of access. Most of you have done this so much, it shouldn't take a lot.

With Marte renounced, there are no more prospects remaining whow ere drafted in the first round. There are still three left who were drafted in our first draft (all Rd 3). There are still 8 players drafted in the first two drafts (first 5 rounds) whose limits are still grandfathered under the original prospect limits.

I can pretty up the gird a little later. The grid balances. 33 Prospects kept. 27 picks. Take a look and make sure I didn't make any mistakes.

Since Tosh, Species and myself are going to be out of contact for the start of the draft and Tosh and I even longer, I am going to get everything set up ahead of time. I will even get the threads set up in THE BASEBALL STANDINGS FORUM. Note that you will not be allowed to make any selections before Noon ET on Monday of the all star break. Cards will be available to help administer the draft if anyone needs assistance.

A couple quick notes...after the freeze on Sunday, no players will be allowed to be picked up who are prospect eligible unitl the draft is declared over. 3 hour per pick time limit. 4 hour total. No one has more than two picks (species traded away his first pick).

A draft-eligible prospect is defined as a hitter that has less than 150 AB or a pitcher with less than 55 IP or 20 GP and has not been on your active roster within one week prior to the draft. They do not need to be in CBS player database, but can not be still in high school/college, etc. They need to either be on a pro team, drafted by a team, or a current free agent/professional Japanese or Cuban player.

Last year's prospect draft

If you have a prospect trade only that does not invlove a player off your team, you can post it here and confirm. If it involved a squad member, it still needs to go through CBS. During the draft if you have a trade involving a player and a prospect, you will most likely need to put it on CBS and have the other manager draft the player in question as to allow for manager review of the trade.

This means no one may add a prosepct-eligible person via FA on your regular team. This rule is in place to protect the integrity of the draft. Since there are no games going on anyway--it won't hurt you to wait until after the draft if he's not drafted.

BH and the head programmer for ESPN's site has been working with us to try to make their site work with us. It's not able to do so yet but some of the issues will be fixed in time for next year. Still others may not be. Working on it. BH made us a league and we have worked on things.

What I'd like to see, either here or on the ESPN league page, is a full list of what would be needed to run G20 on ESPN. That way, we can work through the list and get as many of them as possible into the ESPN fantasy roadmap.
