I'm still trying to figure out how one of Species dice rolls was a 20. We are rolling ten- 10-sided dice 10 times. So on the one roll he averaged a 2!!! Talk about unlucky! That still wasn't the difference though.

I've only used this site twice now but thus far both times the first person had the highest roll. The first time it went in order even 1-2-3.

Ref has asked me to prepare the draft lottery.

For those unfamiliar with the process, here is a brief recap.

1. The bottom 14 teams are each assigned selection probabilities for the lottery, defined as chances per 1000. The last place team has a 25% chance of being selected; the team 14th from the bottom has a 0.5% chance (5 per 1000). For the upcoming lottery, here are the selection probabilities (chances per 1000) assigned to each team:
PermDude 250
youngroman 200
GoatLocker 148
Great One 109
blue hen 81
Toral 59
allhair 44
Guru 32
Tosh 24
darkside 16
Species 15
Yokel 10
R9 7
Jaydog 5

2. The lottery is conducted as three sequential random "draws". The first draw will be for the top pick, then the 2nd pick, then the 3rd. All teams not selected for one of the top three picks will be assigned the 4-14 position reverse standings order.

3. The process for each draw is to simulate the random selection of four balls from a total of 14 balls, numbered from 1-14. There are 1001 such possible combinations that can be selected. One of these is predetermined to represent a "do over", and the other 1000 combinations are each pre-assigned to one of the 14 teams, in the proportions listed above. I have done this in the linked spreadsheet: http://rotoguru1.com/base/G20-Feb09-14x4_balls.xls

There are 1000 rows. Columns B,C,D, and E list the four-ball combos. Columns F&G list the team that is assigned to each combo. Once a four ball combo is drawn, it is a simple matter to look up the team that is represented by that combo. For example, if the combo is 1-10-13-14 (in any order), then the team selected is Perm Dude. (2-7-9-12 is the "do over" combo.)

3. If the second or third draw results in a duplication, then it is tossed out and done again.

4. The program for selecting the 4 ball combinations is derived from the random.org website. Here is a sample (the top 4 numbers are the only ones that matter): http://random.org/cgi-bin/randseq?min=1&max=14

The version of the program that we use sends an email confirmation to several people, so the results can be audited and verified. I wrote the program, but Ref will run it and post the results here.

We had talked quite a bit in the previous thread about different things and possibilities for this season, but haven't mentioned anything since we added our new managers.

Plaque: In G24 football and G20 Hoops we have done away with the tradtion of the traveling trophy. In its place, we are buying a permanent bobblehead with a personalized engravement. It's cheaper and a lot less of a hassle! Twarpy still has the plaque for this league and will send it to me. We just bought this thing last season to upgrade it. We also get a free bobblehead from CBS (not personalized) for buying the earlybird deal. So what would hte league like to do with this situation?

As far as schedule goes, I haven't started looking yet. I'm assuming it will be similar to last season. Our drafts are normally blazing fast so I'll try to put it on the same schedule as before and still try to build a day (or two) into the schedule in case something happens and we get behind.

Also, I've not started looking at prospects yet to check for eligibility. If any prospect is ineligible, they will be added to your team and removed from your prospect list. Then you can declare them as one of your keepers or drop.

No, bmd got Ref's 5th for Sanchez. I had Ref's 5th for Soria. That guy sucks. Now if bmd had said Sanchez is available for a mid-level pick, I'd have known Sanchez sucks, but I didn't.

Haren is MUCH better than Bedard, especially considering league and health, and I put Crisp ahead of Dukes. Pretty out of whack, I guess.

Yeah, we just threw Crisp in, nobody planned to keep him on either side of the deal unless the rest of my offense breaks their legs next week. Dukes IS a 25 year old keeper with 20/20 potential. I've got him the #31 OF ahead of Magglio Ordonez and Corey Hart and Vernon Wells.

Yes Haren is healthier than Bedard at the moment, but Slizz is thinking long term and is betting Bedard comes back around to form after he shakes off the rust early in the season. When both are healthy, Bedard is better.
And as far as your league idea, that gets cancelled out by the fact that Haren pitches in a major hitters ballpark and Bedard pitches at Safeco. Those two stadiums where they pitch half their games are at opposite ends of the spectrum (source: Rotoworld's Park Factoring Chart).

In what way, shape, or form is Crisp better than Elijah Dukes?

I really would like to know?

Dukes, with nearly 100 less AB's, had more HR's, a better OB%, more RBIs, more HR's, almost as much runs, and steals bases at the same rate as Crisp. I anticipate that he will be even better this year considering he will be sandwiched somewhere between Zimmerman/Dunn/Milledge.

Yes, i'm in the tank for the guy as I was hoping the Rays would keep him but I think he has a solid top 100 overall players type year. Worst case scenario is Alex Rios IMHO.

Bedard, while he is a higher risk and a downgrade from Haren, I think he could put up comparable stats...and he's in his contract year. Never underestimate that.

I'm happy with it...

The year before, Dukes hit .190. I'm not sold. On Bedard either - those stadiums are just home games; Bedard has to face a DH in every game (except interleague).

Whatever, it sounds like you're both happy with the deal, which is how deals should work.

I completely agree with you on Bedard...hes a huge risk pitching in the AL vs the NL West...but you have to give a little to get a little. If Bedard can return to his 2007 form, I believe I will be fine.

Afterall, he was a stud pitching in the AL East :)

Dukes is gonna be that out of nowhere stud, kind of like Nate McLouth.

So the season starts 11 day later this year. Last year's draft took just over 9 days for the 14 rounds and 280 picks. So we can likely start the draft somewhere around the 23rd or 24th with keepers due a couple days before that. Probably would not have Keepers due on a Fri or Sat. So perhaps even they could be due at 11:59 pm on a Sunday night for a Tuesday the 24th start date? However the 24th is the last possible date we should start. If it takes say 10 days, we could get Waivers run one full time before opening day. There are only two games that day.

Anyone have an opinion about that time frame?

I've called up Ian Stewart twice but he is under the original threshold for abs. Is he still considered a prospect or will I have to use a keeper slot on him.

From the rules it sounds like he's still considered a prospect and I can keep him without using a keeper spot.

Managers may call-up and then OPTION (send down) their prospect up to two times without losing their rights as a prospect as long as that player has not hit the maximum ABs/IP/GP threshold. Once a commish allows the call-up, he will add the number of times that player has been called-up next to his name in the Prospect List below. At the end of the season, all prospects on the roster will be considered optioned so they won't have to be counted as a keeper so long as they have not hit their threshold. Before a commish will option or send-down a prospect, he will look at the stats for that player including games played that day if the lineup freeze has passed. If a prospect is renounced or hits his threshold while on your roster (called up), his name will be removed from your prospect list.

Hmmmmmmmm.

When you called him up last, he basically stayed on your active roster last year until the end, correct?

I guess you could officially "send him down" to the prospect list for a 2nd time as allowed in the rules and keep him as a prospect. I'd like to hear other opinions but I think bmd's interpretation is accurate.

LOL, I was just coming here to say we are going to go through every prospect to see if they qualify to remain on the prosepct list. Those who don't will be taken off the prospect list and will be put on that player's team so he may use one of his keeper slots on him if he wishes.

Before the season at the keeper deadline and then again at the prospect keeper draft deadline, 7 days before the draft (8 days before the ASG), all hitters must have less than 300 ABs (400 if drafted in Rds 1-5) and pitchers less than 110 IP (100 if drafted in Rds 1-5) or 40 GP (50 if drafted in Rds 1-5) or they must be moved to your active roster or released. Managers must monitor their own prospects. If they are later to have found to be over the max. at that deadline, the player will be immediately removed as a prospect and put on waivers.

As the rules apply to Ian Stewart, bmd is correct. He was drafted in round 3 and is grandfathered under the original rules. He has been called up twice and since he has not hit the AB threshold, he is entitled to be sent down (salary added) after last season. The next time he is called up, he will lose his prospect status (or hits 400 ABs while and not called up at our midseason deadline).

When the site wipes all non-keepers it also wipes all salaries. So we will ahve to re-add them before the draft. It doubles the work, but w/o a taxi squad or anything to save them--the only other way is to manually add and drop players.

I haven't decided who my 9 keepers will be just yet. I have at least 15 guys I'm choosing from--though I have since narrowed it down to less than that at this point. I've had discussions but have made no offers yet nor countered anyone yet because it is so wide-open on my final 9 at this point.

I have pretty much decided that I can't keep three closers--so thta would mean that F. Cordero will likely be traded. Still trying to figure out about Hafner, Headley, Ibanez, etc.

Species and I have went through all prospects.

We've added salaries to about 15-20 guys--including guys who were called up but still have prospect eligibility.

There are about 7 guys who were very close to hitting the threshold but still legal (Kershaw was 2.3 IPs away for instance).

In the end, we didn't find any players who had lost their prospect eligibility.

I went ahead and put the keeper policy on the site. As of now the keepers will be due by end of day Sun 3/22. We have 9 keepers.

I am going to try and figure out if we can add our prosepcts to the keeper total to see if we don't have to re-assign the salaries. My guess is that we will keep it as is and re-add salaries to all prospects on Mon 3/23.

Man a taxi squad like the added for football would be great for our prospects. But I've asked for that for 6 seasons at least and they've refused to listen. Wish I could get a message to the programmers instead of the lame support staff at CBS.

As it stands now, Draft would start sometime around Noon on Tues. March 24th.

Talking it over, we may put prospects on the team and add them to your keepers. You can only keep 9 plus your prospects. The most anyone has is 4 so it would be 13 max for bh, less than that for the rest of us. Then we could jsut keep them on our teams through the draft to make that easier as well. Still your draft would be over once you hit 23 regular players. Just easier to do it this way then have to find the players and add salary all over again.

As of now here is were I am:

Keeping
DLee 1b
Roberts 2b
Hanley SS
Manny OF
Soria RP
Marmol or F. Cordero RP

Keeping 3 of these players and at least 2 will likely be SP:
Shoppach C
Hafner DH
Headley OF
Cantu 1b/3b
Ibanez OF
Marmol or F. Cordero RP
E. Santana SP
J. Weaver SP
C. Zambrano SP
Pelfrey SP

I will consider 2 for 1s or even 3 for 1s or possibly draft picks--depending on the player.

Post 59:

So the season starts 11 day later this year. Last year's draft took just over 9 days for the 14 rounds and 280 picks. So we can likely start the draft somewhere around the 23rd or 24th with keepers due a couple days before that. Probably would not have Keepers due on a Fri or Sat. So perhaps even they could be due at 11:59 pm on a Sunday night for a Tuesday the 24th start date? However the 24th is the last possible date we should start. If it takes say 10 days, we could get Waivers run one full time before opening day. There are only two games that day.

We should finalize keeper due dates and draft start. Is there a reason Friday keepers is somehow undesirable? Why not have Keepers Friday and start the draft on Sunday or Monday?

responsibility to me due to his time constraints and I am
prepared to declare keepers on time and have been prepping for
the daft. As a member of G24, I'm well aware of how fast the
draft will move. I don't anticipate any problems.

Please keep bj21 on as co-owner, at least for a while, as I'm
moving in mid to late April. I'll be arranging for a seamless

Guru and I have discussed it and we have made an executive decision to abandon the traveling plaque in this league like we have done in our other leagues. In the other two, we purchase a bobblehead for teh champ which is drop shipped from the company with the winner's info engraved on it. We just ask that the winner take a pic of it and email it to me.

In this league we have gotten a free league bobblehead as part of our early bird special entry fee. So it only costs us shipping to the winner. We have money on file from past year(s), so our dues would only have to cover the site nad the prize pool. Since the shipping will be pretty close to the same every season, Guru will have a much easier time figuring out how much to assess each of us. Having the funds combine now should make things a little easier for him and save everyone at least a buck or two/year.

If CBS stops sending us the bobblehead, we can start dropshipping the bobblehead like we do the other sites.
