      Wed, Feb 17, 2010, 15:45 		Had a question about prospects, so it's a good time to go over a couple of hte prospect guidelines.

Remember, that even though a player is prospect-eligible, he is not a prospect unless he was drafted in our prospect draft and still hsa eligibility remaining.

At the end of the season, ever prospect will automatically be sent down where eligible. (Otherwise you'd have to keep him and lose him as a prospect anyhow.) We still need to go through every prospect for eligibility issues. Any prospect with no eligibility left will be put on a team's active roster (if not already) and removed as a prospect. That team must then keep him as one of his 9 keepers or lose him.

I am trying to remember how we handled the keeper wipe for baseball and I think we added all prospects to the individual teams as well. Then removed after keepers were processed. Just re-familiarize with your prospects and their standing as far as the number of call-ups and our eligibility rules.

      Wed, Feb 17, 2010, 16:32 		Before the season at the keeper deadline and then again at the prospect keeper draft deadline, 7 days before the draft (8 days before the ASG), all hitters must have less than 300 ABs (400 if drafted in Rds 1-5) and pitchers less than 110 IP (100 if drafted in Rds 1-5) or 40 GP (50 if drafted in Rds 1-5) or they must be moved to your active roster or released. Managers must monitor their own prospects. If they are later to have found to be over the max. at that deadline, the player will be immediately removed as a prospect and put on waivers.

Huston Street: He's only 26 and has a lifetime 2.91 ERA and 1.04 WHIP along with a 9.28 K/9 ratio. Just because he isn't built like Broxton doesn't mean he isn't as effective. He's got a new 3-year deal and the Rockies are built to contend long term in the weak NL West.

Domonic Brown, OF, PHI: The Phillies' top prospect is a 5-tool threat and poised to arrive sometime in 2011 after Ibanez and/or Werth leave the team. He is ranked both in ESPN/Keith Law's and Baseball America's top 15 prospects.

Casey Kelly, SP, BOS: Often compared to Josh Beckett in terms of control and feel for pitching, he's only now given up playing SS and is taking to pitching full time.

I have 2011 picks to throw into the deal should the pitcher be good enough. But the pitcher I need does not need to be a 26 year old ace.....but I don't want him "over the hill" either. Strong ratios and K's wanted.

I have briefly looked over my team and posted a trade block. I have a ton of closers and Hitters and could use SP and 3B. At this point I would keep them rather than deal for a draft pick. I guess I had better count to make sure there isn't more than 9, but more interested in a player or two in return which can help both parties fill needs.

      Fri, Feb 26, 2010, 15:25 		This is not final as of yet--but if we use the same day we did last year--keepers would be due on Sunday March 21 with the draft starting a couple days later. Still need to go through the draft from last year and see how much time we had left over, etc. It seems to me that last year we also added prospects to all teams and kept salaries on so we didn't have to redo them. If that's what we did, obviously the keeper number would be higher to account for prospects (who would remain on team through the draft). If this is how we do it, you can still only have 9 keepers plus the salaried prospects. Will also adjust the team roster total until the draft is over and prospects removed.

      Mon, Mar 08, 2010, 19:23 		It appears that last year's schedule will work fine for this year as well. This allows us to wait until really late in spring training to declare keepers and draft. Our draft is so quick (thanks!) that we will (hopefully) be done in time for waivers to run before opening day. We took a little longer last year than normal and were still done in time.

So here are the dates:
Keepers due by 11:59 PM on Sunday March 21. Draft would start sometime around Noon on Tuesday March 23. Please let me know if there is an issue.

We will be adding all eligible prospects to people's teams and adding additional keeper spots to account for them (as well as roster spots for the draft). Doing this allows the salary to be kept on your prospect after non-keepers are wiped and keeps them on your team so they are not drafted by mistake. This does not chagne the fact that you get 9 keepers and your roster is full/draft over at 23 players. SOme players will have more prospects than others so we will have to account for that. CBS allows you to keep less keepers so it is not an issue.

We will have a keeper thread in this forum which will serve as the official spot in case of a disagreement with the cbs site. PLEASE mark your keepers on CBS correctly though. It takes time to add prospects and mark them as keepers for you, etc. Please go through your list of prospects and check to see if they have been entered into the CBS database so we may add them to your team with a salary.

Finally, please review the rules again. I am getting a few questions that are well-covered in the rules. I don't mind helping, but it's funny how many have asked similar questions about prospects this season.

      Tue, Mar 09, 2010, 15:51 		Added Salaries to following Prospects: Crow, Chapman, Devaris Strange-Gordon, Kelly, Ackley, Tate. I also changed the teams and positions where I found them to differ. I then went through every lineup and added the salaried prospects as keepers.

Remember, this was done as a service to assist. I think I got them all, but it's each manager's responsibility to keep track of their own prospects and alert a commish when a salary is needed, etc. There are 54 players still on our prospect list and temporarily transferred to our own teams.

on the line: players I found on various keeper rankings in the top 200
Alexei Ramirez, SS - can he bounce back? I think so. you can either get him now or pay more during the season. your choice
Gavin Floyd, SP - the potential is there. he just needs to show it in the regular season
AJ Burnett, SP - not getting younger, but can still get it done for the Yankees.
Colby Rasmus, OF - needs to show that he is no prospect any more.
Mike Napoli, C - has already 4 homers this spring. I know spring training means nothing.

as of now I would keep Ramirez and Floyd, with Burnett as a close 3rd. anyone interested in any of these 5? most likely for a draft pick upgrade.

I am swamped right now with rl stuff, but am going to work hard to make sure this draft goes as smoothly as ever. I have yet to even look at anything baseball-related except my own team enough to look at my keepers and respond to trade stuff. We will do the draft as always. I have add players turned on. I know that hoops used kaf and I looked briefly at CBS manual draft, but didn't have time to figure out some things. 2. Sorry to see Twarpy leave. Newer members like Guru may not remember that Twarpy was the ininatior of the surprisingly (to me) successful to me scheme of coldbloodedly disposing of the older members of your team and loading up with total youth. It was amazingly successful. Look how strong Species has become following it -- and he doesn't understand anything about baseball!

Twarp was also known for his blunt and pungent comments about fellow league members and commisshes, no doubt including me, usually insightful. As far as I can figure, he was onme of the smartest two people in the league, and one of the two who knew the most about baseball.

RE: drafting - The boards are blocked from my work, but I can see the mirror site Guru maintains. I hate leaving queues, so if I can't get to a smartphone, I may email my pick to most of the league hoping that someone will make it for me. I'll pay attention to the draft and make sure not to slow things up. Sorry and thanks for the help.

Species - You're just mad one of your usual targets doesn't have anything you want! At least I have an excuse...my son is 1 month today. Things have been hectic!

The draft starts as soon as I can get the draft thread and order up in the Baseball Leagues forum which is about Noon ET today. It will be the same format as G24.

darkside - lol - no, you have stuff I would want, but I had traded them to you (Lester) in the first place, and I don't want sloppy seconds.

judy - The draft is merely hosted HERE on the boards and will be completed in the Baseball Standings forum. As each pick is made, each team is required to then go to the CBS Sportsline website and immediately add that player to their team. Thus, the site SHOULD be updated pick-by-pick, so you can sort through the available players in order to consider your picks. Just be sure to use CNTL-F in the draft thread to double-check that the player you intend to draft is still available. It is common for teams to forget if they left a queue or don't have access from work/whatever. The Commishes (Ref, me, Tosh) will often spot those missed pickups but not always.

Ref theorized in post 56 that the draft would start "a couple of days later" after the keeper due date. I think everyone should get their lists ready -- I think we need to get this this rolling TONIGHT or tomorrow at the latest.
