Welcome to the 2022 Gurupie 20 Season! This is our 20th year in existence, and I could not be more proud. The pandemic and the lockout have tested our faith in Baseball.....and while those things can slow us down, Baseball inevitably makes it way back up.
G20 is my favorite league in my nearly 30 years of playing fantasy baseball. It has tested my mettle by starting completely from scratch, to back-to-back titles, to a quick reload between titles, and now in the midst of something between a rebuild and a reload (who knows what 2022 will exactly bring). It takes SO MUCH to bring home this pantheon of Championships.......do YOU have what it takes?
It is 3 days before Opening Day. The Prospect and Supplemental Drafts were a success (even if a couple of hiccups). Rosters are up to date and the waiver order is set. The Supplemental and Prospect Draft grids are reset for 2023 so you can see what you have -- I have already noticed I traded my 14th AND my "last"....oops I had better go get another 14th!
A few reminders for this year:
1) Four IL spots are available to Keepers, Prospects and "10th keepers" ONLY. Please be cognizant of the player restriction and manage accordingly. We will be self-policing this - if you see something awry, please let a Commissioner know.
2) Up to 10 COVID IL spots are available to ANY player on the COVID list. Hopefully the days of massive COVID outbreaks - or even too many individual days - are mostly behind us. But, since the site allows it I have extended it. This does require the player to specifically be on MLB's COVID list and be recognized / designated by Yahoo. This will also be self-policing.
3) The Shohei Ohtani exception. Please be reminded, and for clarification for our new managers, youngroman has owned Ohtani since our days hosted by ESPN. When we made the move to Yahoo, we wrote in an exception to allow BOTH the hitter and the pitcher to be treated as 'one player' for keeper and roster purposes. youngroman may drop and re-pick up Ohtani in Yahoo as many times as he wants in order to have something resembling the roster flexibility they had at ESPN. No other teams may pick up either the hitter or the pitcher. NOTE: youngroman (or any team he is traded to) must ALWAYS roster at least one Ohtani to retain these rights.
4) Prospects are shown as free agents in Yahoo - please be cognizant. You know when something is too good to be true....then it usually is? Please be aware of who is on the prospect list before picking up players that might have been prospect-eligible.
5) Trade Deadline is August 25th. Our rules indicate that our trade deadline is the last day available in August on our host site. That is August 25th this year.
6) Trade review resides with the league now - 7 vetos required to overturn. Thank you Trade Committee for your diligence this offseason.
- Our defending Champion bmd has already felt the sting of how hard it is to repeat - only 3 managers have done it in 20 years. Can he pull a LL Cool J and come back from a few tough breaks? - Can Fosten finally pull the right in-season strings on his bevy of talent and prospects? - Can WG pull magic out of a hat and be a contender? - Will blue hen return to former glory? - Can some of the new bucks - Thumper, Dowd, DonkeyKong, Code and Lyman make a big run / splash this year? - How will our rookie managers taxman and Bobo do in reshaping their teams? - Can Tree and GO build on last year's top 3 finish to challenge again? - Can veterans darkside, Tosh, Nerfherders and youngroman rise to the top? - Can Guru make a second run? - How will Matt G put his own stamp on his team?
Only one way to find out. Good luck to all! |

Folks, Robert Suarez, who I own as a prospect and has now been picked up or drafted by three other teams, is on the block. Since our first round had many closers picked who don’t play for a contending team, in a cavernous ballpark or who don’t have years of closing experience in Japan, I’d expect to get a 2023 first round pick in return, plus something to make it worth my while.

Rain rain, go away! Come again another day!
Well, besides some projected rainouts, Baseball is f**king ON tomorrow! Despite my lack of contention this year, I am extraordinarily excited. I go through moods in March -- overwhelmed by too many leagues and duties but then equally amped up when the deeds are all done and we are ready to GO!
Thirteen days before the keeper moratorium ends. Team Species is open for business!! Of course, non-keepers are open to be traded right now....so don't be shy to start planting those seeds and sowing your spot as a contender.

The Saves + Holds coalition is enjoying the importance being placed on managers deciding who will be their closers right now. Relievers good and bad are stockpiled in anticipation of a side comment made by a manager! May the odds be ever in your favor!

At least BH won't have to worry about people picking up Saurez anymore. It's pretty neat how closers who are perfectly healthy and pitching fine just lose all value on a whim.
As a gambler myself, I appreciate how 10% of scoring is completely determined by the luck of closer roulette.

We can finish the S + H discussion and even put it to a vote.
We do need to address WHEN this would go into effect. Those managers who have invested heavily into the best closers deserve to have a bit of a sunset period where the value of their assets are still strong.
A reasonable counter-argument to that issue is that strong closers are still going to have good to very strong value. Holds are a very nebulous / random stat as well - so a stud closer still has a much better chance of racking up counting stats in this category. Tosh suggested TWO full years -- that might be much but his and darkside's perspectives (holding 4 of the top 8 closers right now) ought to carry a bit more weight than their 10% vesting in this league might normally. I am of the mind that the value of a team's holdings must be seriously taken into account when a rule change is going to directly impact them (i.e. Ohtani and the move to Yahoo).
bmd's argument of streaming setup men on good teams when their good starters are going will absolutely be a part of the strategy. However, our moves limit will at least make managers think twice as to how often they stream that position.
Any other considerations??

I can pretty much guarantee whoever the top closers today won't be the top closers 2 years from now... but yes, I think at least putting a date on it would be fair. Call it 2024. 2025. Whatever. Let them cycle back out of Top Guy status.

re: 16...thanks for the consideration, Species. Two years is generous, but a case can be made for it. One year is the bare minimum, yet reasonable. It probably makes sense to just add a second question to the vote, 2024 or 2025. That seems fair to me.

Closers will still be more valuable than middle relievers in the S+H world because they have more opportunities. As a steady closer owner, I'd be fine with a 2023 start if it passed now.

I can also tell you that even if closers lose some value 2 years from now... I'm still more than willing to give a top pick for one right now cause they are valuable today and I'm trying to compete. And regardless of the caliber of closer I have, I'm not keeping them.
That said... anyone with a closer for sale?

Counter argument is that Devin Williams is a keeper in a S+H league. He’s worthy of being kept skills-wise.
I’m down to move to S+H asap, after the 2023 season feels fairest to those with heavy stock in closers

I still don’t see the appeal of saves+holds. The top teams are assured the top spots as middle to lower teams aren’t going to be chasing holds or saves. In our current setup those teams have incentive to chase saves as they may land a closer they can flip for a pick. With holds those trade spots will not exist since there will be plenty of holds on the waiver wire.
I cringe thinking about having to cycle 100+ relievers a year to win. That just isn’t my idea of fun.

the fear that you'd have to "cycle through" relief pitchers is a false fear.
In the 8 Men Out league, which uses S+H - the manager who won the category made 14 moves. Yes, he did it by having 3 closers, and that is absolutely a strategy.
#2 in the category did make the second most amount of moves, and #3 made the third most moves. The guy who made the most moves - more than the next 3 managers behind him combined - finished 4th in the category.
I sure as hell don't want to chase holds by making 100+ moves, and I don't believe that it is necessary to do so to be competitive in the category.
As for leaving the league because one does not like a category, so be it. I left a league when the antiquated QS was installed over Wins, so if one wants to leave, that is their prerogative.

More roster space would help incentivize me to roster my rookies, but that's not happening.
I counted 12 rookies on our prospect list that are currently in the bigs. Two of those 12, Torkelson and Abrams, are mine. I'd love to see their names on my roster, but there are four things keeping me from promoting them.
1) Where do I play them? Abrams over Wander? Torkelson over Voit and Vaughn? And I don't really need them at DH with some of the options I'm forced to leave on my bench, daily.
2) Who do I drop in order to roster them? Spencer Strider? Jhoan Duran? Doubting they'd pass thru waivers. Robles? He's seemingly part of a closer committee for a playoff contender. Santiago Espinal? Sure, but that brings me to my next item.
3) If I drop Espinal in order to add Tork or Abrams, I'll have no easy drops to make if a player I NEED suddenly hits the waiver wire (where I own the #1 waiver priority), or if an available free agent suddenly becomes hot property. Pointless, to me, to just add Tork and/or Abrams and, thus, limit my roster flexibility when I might not be playing them very often.
4) The trade moratorium. I would like to clear some roster space and add my ROY candidates, but the trade moratorium limits the possibilities, so we wait.
I can't speak for others holding back their rookies, but there's a lot of factors that go into keeping mine down. Last year I kept Andrew Vaughn down as I was finishing off the rebuild of a garbage franchise I inherited where the best players were Segura, Escobar, Aroldis and Roberto Ozuna. My only prospect was Forrest Whitley. I spent that offseason unloading anything of value and began the following season with a fresh set of nine new keepers that I traded for over that first offseason. I then spent last season finishing off the two-year rebuild, and heard a lot of grumblings about people "tanking" on this messageboard. Was never sure if those comments were meant for me, but I did finish last, so if tanking means a regular season which saw me add Manoah, Baz, Marsh, Josh Jung, 4-of-the-5 pieces I needed to acquire Torkelson, the draft picks I acquired and used to add Miguel Vargas, Taylor Rogers, Josh Donaldson, Luke Voit, Mitch Garver and Matt Brash ... then, yeah, I tanked like a mo-fo.

I agree with Lyman points. I had Suzuki and Jeremy Peña. I don’t typically play rookies at the beginning. So I waited until a player went on the DL or somebody deserved to be cut before making a move.
I’ve got a Buxton and Marte at OF and Boomstick at DH. So it was a choice between Suzuki and Kepler for the last active slot. Kepler is no superstar, but he is a proven commodity for the first week. Of course the day I activate Suzuki for a Colorado start … he sits.
Once Urias comes back, Peña will just be a bench guy… so he’ll just sit on the FA list for now. I don’t need him today.
And interesting how us old timers and league founders want to keep saves, and it’s just the new guys shouting to make this league easier.

Closers are usually just failed starters. So timing when they fail as an SP prospect and timing their transition to the bullpen can certainly be a delicate dance.

I wanted to see if Lowe and Greene proved their worth, I wasn't convinced both would come and stay up. It's apparent Lowe is going to stay so I added him for Ortega at that point he was out performing my bench.
Greene may be next but again I have the same Dilemna, who do I drop?
One league I'm in drafts a bench of 6 players but leaves 2 extra spots empty You can fill them at your leisure via Waivers, free agency, etc.

Post 31 is a great example of the challenge of this league.....how and when do you pull the trigger and evolve:
FROM a collector of assets TO a contender
Each of those require a different skillset/mindset. When you are collector, you churn assets frequently, trading $0.50 for $0.75 as many times as possible....
Once you make the choice to be a contender, it's time to get elite at the positions and categories of need and trade $1.25 for $1.00 when you have to -- consolidating as GO noted.
It can be a hard switch to flip....it only took me 3 years to convince Fosten to do it.

I believe the Trade Moratorium ends tomorrow, April 19. I have a number of productive MLB bats available, listed below. Essentially, I'll discuss anybody except Wander and Julio. I also have some prospects I'd entertain trading in the right deal. My biggest need is Roster Space, so I'd love to swing some 2-for-1's. More specifically, I have interest in acquiring (1) quality starting pitching, (2) true closers and (3) a noticeable upgrade to Kolten Wong at 2B.
Shoot me a text or email if you see anything that interests you.
* Joey Gallo (still a keeper-friendly 28 years old) * Josh Donaldson (3B, batting leadoff and in the 3-hole for the Yanks) * Andrew Vaughn (1B-OF, a complete hitter on the rise) * Jesse Winker (a complete hitter and still a keeper-friendly 28 years old) * Brandon Marsh (doing it all early on and a true 20/20 threat with a high walk rate) * Trent Grisham (hasn't gotten it going yet, only 25 years old and a true 20/20 threat and leadoff hitter with high walk rate) * Luke Voit (batting cleanup and in the 5-hole for the Padres) * Matt Brash and Spencer Strider (pitching phenoms)

I don't get it. So you're admitting to getting f*ck*d in this deal?
Some of these trades...
I mean, I'm pretty positive that if I polled everybody in the league, everybody would say Thumper has one of the top teams in the league and Tax Cuts has one of the worst teams in the league (to no fault of his own, as he inherited that mess). So I'm always bewildered how a contender sends to a team in rebuild a couple of their next drops in exchange for a keeper.
Ryan McMahon plays the second hardest position to fill in fantasy, 2B. Everyday. And 81 of his games are played at Coors Field, the best hitting paradise in baseball history. Ryan McMahon is 27 years old. Ryan McMahon ranked a very respectable 129th in G20 last year (we keep 180 players overall). McMahon is Tax Cuts 4th or 5th best player overall. Or he was, anyway.
Meanwhile, in return for a 27-year old everyday 2B who plays 81 games at Coors and was ranked 129th last year, Tax Cuts receives a middling 31-year old outfielder with a career .293 OBP, and a pretty boring 28-year old starting pitcher with a history of shoulder problems, but no history of sustained success. Unlike McMahon, Gonsolin and Grichuk were not keepers. No, they were drafted at 4.17 and 5.17. The draft was what, a mere 3-or-4 weeks ago?
I mean I hate to do this. I don't want to be the bad guy and make everybody feel bad. And I suspect this will cause hard feelings. I also suspect it will handicap me by making it harder for me to make deals. But these trades where the rich get richer while the teams who are this league's version of the Pirates and Orioles are getting two meh players for actual keepers (cough, Austin Riley) are wayyyyyyyyy more likely to make me quit than if I don't get my way in the saves+holds debate. This deal makes no sense for the Tax Cuts franchise, and like the Austin Riley deal, should never even have been offered let alone accepted. All parties are guilty of making really shitty deals that both greatly affect the landscape for those in contention, while also rendering two already-weak franchises with considerably less talent. As a former long-time commissioner, I can assure you that it bites the big one when you're forced to replace a manager who left behind a talent-barren team that was picked over in shoddy trades. Not cool.
I know this is a Gentleman's League and I appreciate and respect that. But I've seen enough of these eyebrow-raising deals slide by, and frankly it ticks me off a little that I'm essentially having to put my reputation on the line by being forced to call out these trades as what they are - bogus.
The last thing I'll say is this: If you're a team that is in sell mode or rebuild mode, it is your duty to the league to respect the teams fighting for a title and not merely give away to contenders legit keepers, without getting back a true talent, or at least an upside play like Jesus Luzardo could have been for Tax Cuts. And, yes, this also applies to when you're making trades with me.

and another view is...take a look at each roster.
On a team that "had" (best choice) to keep Andy Ibenez, Akil Badoo and AJ PUK, Gonsolin and Grichuk are probably keepers. It is doubtful that McMahon gets in the top dozen on Thumper's team, much less top 9.

45: It is tough for me as the Commissioner because I see each side of this....
From Lyman's side, he sees a new team that is potentially learning the hard way about what tends to be most valued in this league and what may not be. He also sees a new team very slowly navigating its G20 journey....keeping (in taxman's own words) rather fringy (at best....sorry) players in their 9 keepers when 10-20 pretty solid 7th-9th keepers were CLEARLY posted as available for trade....
From taxman's side, McMahon has never really 'blown up' in Colorado....even his full seasons were only ~25 HR, .250-.255 batting average and pedestrian OBPs. He gets a journeyman Rockies OF in return and a potential upside SP in return. Gonsolin has never stayed healthy, but at only 27 years old and pitching for the best development team in baseball, there's some real upside there.....and Gonsolin the next day proceeds to throw 6 1-hit innings....
I value both sides. Best of luck to Thumper and taxman on the trade.

I'm glad someone brought else brought this up.
While I've given up on actual trade value for players in this league, there were several very good keepers available so players like Ibanez didn't need to get kept.

49: Right, and someone coming in totally cold has some growing pains to figure things out.
Let's face it -- this was an awful offseason. The lockout and lack of free agency and trades was a total buzzkill. Had our newest managers observed what was a regular offseason with deals all over the place, I hope they would have jumped in with both feet. As it was, I don't think I received more than 2 or 3 inquiries all offseason.
It is hard to jump into this league and determine the value of players and jump into the fray. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt to start.
That said.....nobody ever finished in the top third of the league rebuilding through the draft and sitting on your hands.

From the git-go all but one pre draft trade discussion centered on Aaron Judge/and each quickly ended. In recent Trade with Thumper, Judge was not brought up, although I have received feelers for Judge since.
I agree that after a few rounds the supplemental draft is dumpster diving.

The fact that I am unsure if I'd prefer McMahon (plus open spot) to Grichuk and Gonsolin says I'd have no problem with the deal. I'd personally go McMahon only cause I'm still hunting for a 2B.

Matt Barnes OTB for anyone looking (hoping?) for saves.
Rotoworld blurb: Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters on Wednesday that he still wants right-hander Matt Barnes to reclaim the closer's role. Cora said that Barnes is getting close to regaining his form, and that once that happens they'll use him in the ninth inning again. Cora prefers to have clearly defined roles in his bullpen, and it sounds like he wants Barnes to handle the ninth inning exclusively once again as long as he's ready for it. Fantasy managers speculating on saves in the form of Hansel Robles and/or Jake Diekman, the time appears to be running out.

Hey, I’m going for it this year. The 10th keepers, early picks and lucking into Kimbrel have helped a ton. I’m going to need some hitting to get this done. I’m willing to put a lot on the table to improve my hitting- prospects Nick Yorke, Daniel Espino, or Joey Wiemer. Or major league studs Jonathan India, Gerrit Cole, Gleyber Torres, or Jordan Romano. Or picks. Let me know what you’ve got.

More of a cultural expectation, but yes, we are not supposed to rip / disparage players that are posted to be available.
That said, when there is obvious hyperbole involved, one doesn't have to worry about that being sniffed out by those in this league.....so like Paul McCartney said.....Let it Be.

This is some good stuff.
Thumper just showed us all the value difference between 2B Ryan McMahon at Coors Field and 2B Trevor Story away from Coors Field.
2B Ryan McMahon at Coors Field equals supp picks 4.17 and 5.17.
2B Trevor Story away from Coors Field equals two Top-40 overall stud keepers.
This is fun. Just ask Thumper!

Yeah, I thought above it was the top teams taking advantage of the lesser teams. You'd think you'd be happy the top team just got so much worse. I can't keep up with the ever changing narrative.
Many people were offered very similar 2-1 deals for top 2B (just ask darkside)… and nobody bit.
And another former top Colorado hitter with extreme home/road splits seems to be doing just fine in St. Louis these days. Its almost like your numbers split the difference of that Coors chaos when you are a good hitter. And its not like he went to a pitchers park... he's in a good lineup at Fenway. He'll be fine.

A little heads up to everyone, darkside has advised of his intention to step away from G20. Nothing of an emergency nature, more of a realization that his ability to focus on baseball and really do all that is necessary to compete consistently in G20 is outside of his reach due to professional and personal priorities.
He will continue to manage his team responsibly until we recruit a replacement. This will include trading, but he will only focus on more complimentary pieces as opposed to dynasty studs. I will let him explain himself, but just know that he wants everything to be above board
So, please take a look at your other leagues - non-gurupies okay!

Thanks, Species. It’s been a long-time coming that I give up my place in G20. I’ve never been very competitive in this league, but since I consistently won other Gurupie-led leagues, I rationalized that maybe I’d eventually do well here. But I think my risk-averse nature isn’t built for dynasty leagues.
Since I cut the cord and stopped watching live baseball, things have really gone downhill in terms of my sports engagement. Then the pandemic made everything harder and time more sparse. Between work, kids, and life my focus shifted in a lot of ways and fantasy sports stopped being a priority.
I thought I might have a decent team this year, but apparently my draft was garbage. When folks started reaching out about trades I knew the time had to come to fish or cut bait. I don’t think I deserve to fish in this pond anymore.
I think my successor would be well-served by me trading assets that they wouldn’t rebuild around. Bassitt and my closers (Hendricks and Iglesias being the most valuable) are the most obvious pieces that would be of interest to contenders. I view all three of them as keepers rather than in-season fill-ins, though, so keep that in mind.
Anderson and Albies aren’t available. Kelenic just got sent down so I don’t see a reason to entertain offers since no one would reasonably offer anything worthwhile relative to my hopes for him. Same with Patino or Barrero or any prospects. The next manager can decide on them. I also have some hope for Jared Wash and even Austin Hays, so I likely overvalue them.
Everyone else on my team I’m open to trading. Feel free to shoot me an email. Be forewarned that I’m not much of a haggler. I tend to just ignore low ball offers, so it’s likely best for you to just make the fairest offer you can. Supplemental picks, prospect picks, current/recent prospects are what make the most sense.
I’m also fine letting the next manager make all the decisions, too, so I’m not going to do a ton of outreach. That said, I will do my best to respond in a timely manner to inquiries, but this is the first Sunday I haven’t worked in a long time, so I’m hanging with the family and enjoying some nice weather…you may not hear from me today…
It’s been a great league and I’ve enjoyed the community. Thanks for putting up with my middling team all these years and good luck to those of you in the hunt. I hope the next manager makes the team much more competitive and does more with it than I did.
Thanks to Species for all the work commishing (and Ref before him and all of you who help keep things going) and to Guru for creating a community that I joined 24 years ago when I was still a young (and dumb) man in college. Somehow I turned into my parents and have to focus on more boring things. Anyway, not goodbye yet, just a thanks for being a part of more than half my life.

The ability to project any player or team has basically gone out the window.
Based on past stats of THIS league, I should have 1's across the board in hitting. I have a .299 OBP!
And yet, I actually have 34 points in hitting.
Pitching is much closer - I should have 57 points, and actually have 48.
MLB has to stop f'ing with the baseball.

Team Species is clearly in buy mode. I am looking for Starting Pitching and potentially a closer. While I typically focus on non-to-fringe keeper types to keep the price down, I am open to anything.
I have S-picks, P-picks and prospects to offer:
Nolan Gorman is 2nd in minor league baseball in home runs and is easily one of the more valuable properties considering his production in AAA. St. Louis' existing veteran infield gives him time to hone his skills in AAA, which only makes him a clear and obvious 10th keeper next year. You don't have to wait long for him.
Anthony Volpe was a top 15 prospect on most lists. He was kept in my 9 so not on the prospect list. Some teams shouldn't care.
Luis Matos ended up in the top 40 on many lists.
Coby Mayo was a 2020 draftee with huge power at 3b for the Orioles: link
Diego Cartaya is a huge power bat at Catcher for a Dodger organization who knows how to develop players.
Greg Jones wasn't atop a lot of prospect lists, but is a huge SB guy who can get on base.
Text / email me if you have guys to consider!

106: Ahhhhh, what a difference a few weeks makes! On May 19th my overachieving (and healthy!) group of veteran hitters and scrap heap pitchers had me in the mid-150s, including a single day where I was in first place. While in my heart I knew I was cheap Scotch masquerading in a Johnnie Walker Blue bottle, I figured I needed to at least explore 'buying'.
Now, Team Species is officially open for business.
Readily available for trade:
Jose Abreu has appeared down this year, but if you looked under the hood, Abreu's Statcast data indicates that the results have not matched up with the data that suggests he ought to be much better. Often a slow starter in the cold anyway, Abreu still has plenty to add to a team.
Giancarlo Stanton should be returning soon from a minor ankle injury. Stanton is still a complete beast. Yes, he rightfully gets dinged into a 75-100th place ranking on draft boards due to injury concerns, but the man kills it on the field. Stanton is on pace for his normal 35 HR, 100 RBI season with upside for more.
Anthony Rendon has also been identified by Statcast followers as a player whose results have not matched his expected output. A staple in a stacked Angels lineup, there is enough here to help many teams with counting stats and supportive OBP.
Jorge Mateo is a stolen base specialist. He negatively impacts your OBP. But his 13 SB to date would equate to over 40 SB over the season. If you can absorb the lesser contribution in other places, Mateo might be what you need to cement that category. I liken him to Jonathan Villar - accumulating stats / steals in an Orioles lineup in need of spark.
Joe Barlow has, I believe, been given every Rangers save chance this season. He converted every save chance he was given down the stretch in 2021 and has done well in 2022. He also contributes in ratios (1.56 ERA, 0.92 whip) and offers 9k/9 - not studly for a closer but not an impediment.
Emilio Pagan shares saves in the Twins pen, converting 7 of 10 chances. His partner in the pen has only 4 save chances. He is a reliable veteran for Manager Rocco Baldelli. Not a stud, but 2 months into the season he is a clear leader in a shared pen for saves.
I also have a stable of veteran-to-middling starting pitchers who are capable ratio stabilizers for teams in need of innings. Basically anyone not named Logan Gilbert or Jacob DeGrom on my pitching staff is available.
Less likely to be traded:
Veterans Christian Yelich and Francisco Lindor are much less available. Yelich has also been statistically unlucky, and I would rather hold and home he ascends to something between 2021 and his MVP season. Lindor is finding better footing in his 2nd year in New York and is on a strong 20/20 pace.
Young guns Ty France (great OBP, just wish the HR and counting stats were better but the Mariners just suck right now), Alek Thomas (let's see what he can do), Taylor Ward (OMG) and Nolan Gorman probably aren't going anywhere.
Anthony Volpe started slow but is racking up SB in the minors. I fully expect him to back up his top 10-15 prospect ranking by the time the season ends, so unless you value him like a top 15 prospect, I would likely rather hold and assess what to do with him later.
What am I looking for? Great question. I would consider players who can contribute sooner (probably preferred) and also later (i.e. longer term prospects). Got someone injured who should be good to go in 2023? Let's talk.
Prospect and Supplemental picks can absolutely be a part of any equation - but Abreu and Stanton for example are very unlikely to just be pick packages.

I have a spreadsheet with a LOT of details through 2018.
For example, the highest point total that didn’t win or share a title was 169.5. Could you imagine?
Most HR in a season? 155 by Meatwads in 2018. Prior to 2015, BMD had the record at 240, but 5 teams passed that (and likely more since).

can we get some explanation on this deal?
i am completely baffled that the league leader in saves and one of the top 3Bs in the league (and also won't even be 30 until next season) is traded for a fringe top 75 prospect, a P5 pick, and a guy who is waiver wire fodder in 98% of the fantasy leagues?
I'll be frank - this is another one of those deals that completely affects the integrity of the league.
People are afraid to overturn deals, but this is one of those that should be overturned. just terrible.

Matt Chapman 2022 rank: 224. Gleyber Torres 2022 rank: 240.
While I agree that Thumper got a great deal, I don’t see it as lopsided as that. Lyman basically got a prospect and a pick to keep him. Compare that to WG’s first round p pick for Kenley. First of all, I’ve got Kenley ahead of Rogers+Chapman. You might not, but I do.
If Pages or Hernandez was in the 2023 p draft, there’s a good chance they’d be off the board before WG picks at 17. So Lyman, who realizes he has few suitors (all the contenders just traded for closers), decides to take the great prospect while he can.
Again, Thumper wins this in my mind, but I think some of the criticism isn’t thinking through this.

#150
The market on closers was set ahead of my trading Rogers.
1. Kenley and a P3 for GO's P1 (almost a certainty to be a very late first rounder) and a P5
2. Barlow & Pagan for Guru's Max Meyer
I offered Rogers a couple weeks ago in a 3-for-1 proposal to Guru that would have brought back an MLB keeper to me. After a day or two of consideration, Guru respectfully declined. I perused his prospects. I'm not a big Heliot Ramos fan. Meyer is having arm issues. Taj Bradley was a savvy P-pick but I don't want another TB starter because I have reservations about how the Rays will use him, what with all their starting pitching. So I felt I didn't have an avenue with Guru in which to make a trade where I was getting back something of considerable value.
I sense hard feelings with GO, so I didn't bother making an offer there.
Blue Hen didn't want or need Rogers, nor Chapman.
I did offer Rogers to Species in a proposed blockbuster a few weeks ago, but pulled back my offer when Taylor Ward got injured.
As for Matt Chapman - he can go blow a pack of goats, for all I care. I traded for him the season after he went gonzo and hit 36 homers. His G20 3B ranks since then have been 37th in 2020, 14th in 2021 and 22nd this year while in a hitter's paradise and an All-Star packed lineup. I listed him here as available in April and never got a single trade offer for him. I'm not sure how Chapman qualifies as "one of the top 3B in the league," but after three years of this nonsense, and with no plans of keeping him in 2023, along with no trade offers for him, I was satisfied to get some future value in a P5 for him.
So, broken down, the deal is ...
Taylor Rogers for Andy Pages or Cristian Hernandez and Matt Chapman for a P5 so I can protect Andy Pages or Cristian Hernandez
I think if you compare that deal with those listed above, you'll see that I got fair market value in return for a closer. If you don't agree, then I guess you probably value Pages and Hernandez differently than I do. I'm not sure how landing possibly the biggest power bat in MiLB in Pages (also a high BB percentage), or a kid in Hernandez, who some are saying is the next Arod or Machado, is dramatically worse than a pitcher currently dealing with arm trouble (sorry, Species) or a late first round P-pick. And that's not in any way a commentary on those previous deals, just my own valuation of prospects, which I'd like to think I have a pretty good track record on. But, yeah, I think most experts would disagree that Pages and Hernandez are merely fringe top-75 prospects when the 2023 season begins. Especially for OBP leagues.
As far as the inclusion of Garrett Hampson, he is not part of the deal and was included by Thumper only to make an official trade proposal in Yahoo. I was not seeking Hampson and will be dropping him pronto. So don't think I'm so stupid that I would be seduced into making a deal because Hampson was a part of it.
Feel free to vote on the deal. I agree that deals that should go scrutinized pass without any objections often in this league.

Since I don't know if Guru's question was simply for the record or more pointed, out of respect I'll try to account for what I thought was a pretty insignificant deal. Essentially, I have 5 guys with 3B eligibility in Wander, Paredes, Tork, Burger and Donaldson. That's a lot of third baseman. I value the first 4 way more than I value a 36-year-old Donaldson, who hasn't gotten it going in three months and June was his worst of the season. I find him to be unplayable and just another bat clogging up the bottom of my roster. I actually have more 3B's than I do SP's, of which I have four - two of which are on rookie innings pitched limits. I placed an advertisement here about 10 days ago, specifically shopping Donaldson and others for a "mediocre starting pitcher." Nobody called. I looked thru the whole lot of teams and couldn't find an obvious fit or taker so I made no offers. Thumper came along and offered Eflin. I've never owned Eflin so I have no history with him. From what I understand he's eligible to return for the IL in 10 days and received a Cortisone (Miracle) shot for a knee bruise. Maybe I get 60-to-75 mediocre 2nd half innings from him? If it doesn't work out it only cost me possibly my next drop in Donaldson. Right now Eflin is ranked 460 overall in our league and Donaldson is ranked 446. What am I going to do, get fussy about upgrading a mid-round pick by one round and gain some great advantage? The haggle doesn't seem worth the hassle. Thus, no picks involved in the Donaldson/Eflin deal.

Sal Perez is on the block. Yes, he's on the DL. Yes, he's still a top catcher in MLB. (2nd in HRs, 4th in Ribbies, and 10th in runs, despite being on the shelf for now.)
But it's time to move him for pieces that can help my team now.

Yesterday was my first day over 150. It might be a high water mark, so it seems like a good time to take stock of the season.
Obviously, things have been pretty good. The keepers have been great, with great seasons for Schwarber, Verlander, Cole, Romano, and Hoskins. Bregman and Gleyber are coming around too. Jonathan India never really got started but was an important trade chip. 10th keeper Josiah Gray has also been quite good.
The prospect draft was a major boon, with Yorke, Wiemer, and Espino netting Castillo, JD Mart, Merrifield, Gallo, and likely 10th keeper Vidal Brujan. Pratto and Robert Suarez look to be 10th keepers as well. And Brady House has a very bright future.
And the draft itself was perhaps my best ever, with Gallen, Suarez, Bednar and Kimbrel all playing major roles, and Andres Gimenez playing well before the major trade.
Obviously, this was the year to go for it and that’s what I did. Guru and Thumper will be hard to catch, and GO and Tree are hanging around. Thank goodness power players like WG, Species, and Lyman aren’t contending.
Here’s to a great season. Let me know if Hoskins+Gray+House+Cruz gets me a better first baseman. Good luck to all!

Pretty sure hanging around is being generous, more like Free Fallin... since Buehler, Bryce, Kenley in a row... and Montas... and Profar carted off... and Cron, Devers and Witt now all missing games this week. Almost comical.

I have some assets that have solidified themselves as useful pieces for contenders down the stretch:
Jorge Mateo -- Qualifies at 2b/SS/OF for a great filler for off days and missed games from your starters. Posted a respectable .310 OBP with 14 runs, 3 HR and 6 steals over the past 30 days.
Cole Irvin -- durable innings eater with supportive ratios of 3.34 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over the last 30 days. Not a striktout guy, but someone to use to stabilize / help your ratios.
Jake Odorizzi -- back healthy and pitching for the mighty Astros. Good for wins and Ks with reasonable ratios.
David Peterson -- breakout for the Mets with a 2.78 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 49 Ks in 30.1 innings over the last 30 days. Over the season he is 3.24 / 1.24 with 84ks in 72.1 IP.
I have Corey Knebel if he returns to the closer role. He has found his groove with a 1.86 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over the last 30 days.
Seeking picks for these guys. Happy to take 2024 picks, but like in the NFL when you trade for a 2nd one year you usually give up a 1st in a subsequent year........so I am happy to kick the can out another year in exchange for another round of value.
If you are feeling really frisky, you could inquire about:
Jose Abreu -- Abreu has beasted out this year and showing no signs of slowing down. .387 obp with 11 HR, 52 runs and 46 RBI ytd. He is even better over the last 30 days at .432 obp, 2 HR, 18 runs and 14 RBI.
Christian Yelich -- Yelich is not the 2019 MVP superman anymore, but he is an OBP/R/SB beast with a .406 OBP, 18 runs and 3 sb over the past 30 days (and 13 sb for the season).
These guys are strong keepers, so no pick offers are going to get them. I would be most tempted by ascending prospects or perhaps injured keepers of equal standing.

Anyone who thinks closers are gotten by being at a keyboard when news happens probably isn’t actually playing in G20. Closers are picked up on spec, usually a week before the news. Jonathan Hernandez was owned a week before his first save, and a month before by another owner. Devin Williams has been owned all year. Rowan Wick has largely been owned all year and was most recently added two weeks before the deadline. Same with Felix Bautista.
The exception is the Angels, where both candidates were picked up two of the three managers with the most moves, but several hours later.
Key takeaway: if you want closers, pay attention and make moves. It has nothing to do with being faster to the keyboard.
Meanwhile, the guy who’s second in holds is a guy I hadn’t heard of until last week. You guys claim that doing research is really hard- if you really feel that way, you’re going to hate saves+holds.

A piece of clarity on the prospect rules surrounding callups.
- One 'call-up' includes the right to send that player back down - We get 2 complete call-ups per player - Once 2 call-ups have completed, that prospect can remain on the prospect list through the offseason - That player is still eligible to be brought to your majors -- but he is ineligible to ever be sent down again
Players that fit this criteria currently include Adley Rutschman, Jose Miranda and Josh Lowe. Of course, to be eligible for '10th keeper' status, they must be below 300 total AB and 110ip/40gp for pitchers.

Hi folks!
I’m up to 152.5, so of course I need to post here because it might be the high water mark. Also, the trade deadline is past, so I can’t even give you a commercial.
Sure, I’m more than 20 points back, but I just walk to say that 1. I like my team, and 2. This has probably been the most fun season I’ve had in G20.
Obviously, I’ve worked hard to get my team where it is, and it’s paid off, mostly. I’m here above 150, and have a lineup well suited to address my weaknesses. I’m down to 5/20 in OBp, but I have an OBP heavy lineup and expect to gain there in the next month. JD Martinez and Kyle Schwarber are getting on base again, and Hoskins, Marte, and Suarez never really stopped. And Bregman has been on fire. Here’s hoping.
The season has been fun for a few reasons. My favorite player signing with my favorite team, becoming a top 30 player and pushing both my fantasy and real teams to new heights? Hard to beat. And watching several draft picks hit has been great. Zac Gallen, Eugenio Suarez, David Bednar, Andres Gimenez, and Craig Kimbrel, all extremely solid hits. I can’t remember the last time I had 5 picks that good in a draft. And the p draft was nearly flawless, even without a first rounder. I traded 3 prospects in key trades, and still have what looks like 3 10th keepers and a top 30 prospect in hand. And any season where you trade for Starling Marte, JD Martinez and Luis Castillo (plus Whit Merrifield), you know it was fun.
Just a shame 3 other teams have picked it up this year. Tree’s managed extremely well this year, Thumper always doing, and Guru is producing as well. And it’s always fun seeing Lyman, Species and WG do interesting things when they aren’t near the top. So all of that’s good, and probably offsets BMD’s bad luck. He’s a great manager, hate to see a year like this for him.
Here’s to a great finish. See you in October to talk about Justin Verlander and Mike Soroka!

LOL Nothing wrong with keeping it Weird!
I like the cheap shows with an element of danger. Never know when Anton is going to pick a fight on stage with one of his hired BJM bandmates, or L7's Donita Sparks is going to fling her used tampon at someone in the crowd if they give her some lip. And Amyl and the Sniffers are so dangerous that whenever I mention their name to the uninitiated they think I'm saying Anal and the Sniffers! Truly a badass band and fronted by a wound-up little firecracker of a tomboy.
Pearl Jam's "Ten" turned 31 over the weekend. I still like that record, especially side 2, but they settled right into predictability after that, in my honest opinion. I'd probably go see them in a club for 40 bucks, but these days the stadium shows kinda bore this old snob.

Blue Hen, actually no... In 2020 for that tour I had GA (pit) for all Phx, SD, LA and the Baltimore shows. I had a west coast trip planned was going to fly to phx, drive to SD, then LA then fly home before the Baltimore show as my last hurrah before fatherhood. Unfortunately, when Covid hit and everything tanked I sold all my tickets besides Baltimore thinking I'll just buy them again and wanted the cash to build a nursery.
So I missed out on those shows, then Balt. was canceled, so I tried to re-up for the east coast shows and only got Camden Lawn, which was fine. Then I bought 4 more tickets for the lawn as friends were going to go with me.
Long story short my friends canceled for some dumb reason (kids or something) so I sold my extra 4 tickets, then I held onto my 2 fan club lawn tickets just in case but the family decided to go on vacation, AND work literally booked me this morning to go to Montreal the same week as PJ and I cannot say no. So it wasn't meant to be.
I've seen them 26 times now I think, last show was Fenway 2018. However, I did see the Cornell tribute in LA in 2019 which was fantastic basically all but Ed. That may be my last show unless they are still touring when the kid is old enough and covid isn't such a giant risk everytime I'm around more than 5 people.
enjoy the show!

The idea that you refer to Death as your favorite Detroit band but then, in Amyl and the Sniffers, dismiss as "lame" the best band to come out of Australia since the Cosmic Psychos in favor of a weak-ass indie band will make me laugh all weekend, and I have a whole extra day on Monday to do so.
Amy from Amyl and the Sniffers could kick the asses of both those girls in Wet Leg and all of their male bandmates with both of her hands tied behind her back and using only her head and her feet.

AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME!
Thumper and Guru have been swapping 1st and 2nd for weeks now. While Thumper has jumped to a big lead relative to recent weeks, those new points can be lost just as quickly. Good luck to both down the stretch.
I have awoken from hibernation to update the Constitution. I believe all of the trades are entered, and our sample grids are up to date too. However, GO and Thumper have traded the same pick twice. Please see below and correct whenever you can.
NOTE: 249 / 252 - Great One traded his 7th twice. He can rectify this by mutual agreement with one of the parties for an adjustment, or by replacing one of those 7ths with another.
NOTE: 252 / 266 - Thumper traded his 4th twice. Same rules apply as above.
Now, a little update on team GP and IP pace. By my quick math, basically 85% of the season is over, so teams should have:
1375 GP by year end = 1169 GP pace at this point - Donkey Kong has only 1051 - Code has only 1115 - Matt G, Bobo and Fosten have between 1170 and 1180, so don't lose sight of GP!
1200 IP by year end = 1020 IP pace at this point - It pleases me that everyone is on pace. Lyman is the lowest at 1023 at Bobo is 1035 so keep an eye on your innings.
I commend everyone for their roster / game management throughout the year. It makes a difference in a tight race!!!!

ONE WEEK TO GO!!!!
There have been two ties in G20 history -- our first year in 2003 and later in 2011.
2011 was also the last time we have had 2 teams fighting it out in the 175+ point range for the title. 165 or better is usually a cakewalk.
Why do we have these stupid minimums?!?
This is why.....when 2 teams have left the pack and at times go back and forth in the same night, it is because other teams are still putting up stats:
HR: Taxman, blue hen and Tosh all have slight leads over Thumper RBI: Taxman is 2 rbi ahead and Tree 10 ahead while blue hen is only 2 rbi behind SB: Guru leads but Dowd and Lyman are 1 behind and bmd is 2 behind. Thumper is only 2 behind them!
Every counting stats can count!! Thank you for your attention and diligence, and best of luck to Guru and Thumper!

Well played, Thumper. You deserved the win.
Frankly, I did not expect to have so much success this season. Coming out of the draft, I was hoping for a respectable season, maybe even a top-6 finish if things went well. Last year I finished tied for 10th, with 108 points.
So when I got off to a fast start, I kept waiting for things to reverse - but my team held up pretty well for most of the season. The last 5-6 weeks were not so good, with a few slumps and injuries from multiple key players. I was just happy to be able to keep the pressure on. Every time Thumper threatened to pull away, I managed hang in well enough to close the gap. But I definitely felt like I was in chase mode for the final month, and probably working harder - and taking more risks - than I had to for most of the season.
Regardless, no regrets.
Looking forward to next year.

Congrats Thumper. You are hard to beat at this game. From the early moments of the p draft, it was clear you had some deals on you, and you drafted about as well as possible. And your work on the wire is similarly great. Kind of like Ohtani, does a whole lot of stuff as well as anyone. You already had a target on your back, but it’s much bigger now.
Congrats to Tree and Guru on great seasons. While I don’t always agree with both of you on player evaluations or playing style, you definitely made it work this year. Tree, in particular, had an impressive performance and the plan almost worked. Glad I’m picking in front of all three of you next year.
Congrats to Dowd and WG for dominant wins in dealing with me this year. “Who could have seen this?” has been a common refrain for both Berti and JDMart.
Congrats to me for believing in Kyle Schwarber for 7 years, finishing up as #10 overall. And also Justin Verlander, who finished #3 overall. And for bringing back Joey Gallo, although I guess that one didn’t work out so well. Overall, I think this is my first 4th place finish.
Congrats to Great One for securing a great draft pick after competing so late into the season.
Congrats to WG for turning the franchise around in a year.
Congrats to Species for getting a bit younger at just the right time.
Congrats to Lyman, who is officially my 2023 dark horse.
Thanks for a great season everyone. Bo Naylor is available for a mid-round pick!

Congrats Thumper and to all the money winners. I was hoping to get close to top 10 but covid, travel, work and the kid took priority so I didn't have as much energy/time down the stretch to really make a difference. I like my core just need to get some additional help. I did hit the IP limit but I think I missed the games limit for batters due to a rash of injuries.

Thanks! This has been the most intense, grueling, back-and-forth roto season I've personally experienced. Much of that is due to the great year Guru had. Guru kept making the right calls and it was clear he wasn't going to slow down much if at all. Lots of respect to Guru, I'm going to remember this battle for a long time. We were trading leads for the entire 2nd half, and it was a matter of who got hot at the right time. Tree had a very slow start but was very good in the 2nd half. BH Had a better team than I think the score showed.
There are so many good managers and grinders in this league - G20 is the greatest fantasy baseball challenge that I've been a part of. Very happy to be involved in this league and thanks to the many engaged managers who make it fun year-round. That includes many of you and former G20 league mates TTU Cowboy and Slizz - talking shop and trades gets me through the cold months and keeps the passion alive.
Looking forward to trying to run it back next year. Also ready for trades. Also still ready to send Saves-only to the sun!

FWIW, I took a look at what I would have needed in order to get an extra 5 points to catch (tie) Thumpers.
To get one extra point in runs, I needed 16 more runs. It would have helped if Tree could have scrounged up two more runs – as that would have knocked Thumper back one point.
To get one extra point in HR, I needed 5 more. I did lead that category for much of the season, but fell off the pace in the last month – partly due to hitting slumps/injuries, partly due to my increased focus on SB.
I led in RBI, so nothing left on the table there.
I needed 7 steals to catch the leader in SB (Lyman). I did have the lead in SB for a brief period in Sept, but then Lyman blew past me.
I needed .002 to get one more point in OBP. At the end of the season, .002 is a lot. I was fortunate to be ranked first among four teams in the .325 range, so I should probably be happy with the outcome.
I needed 8 more wins to catch Thumper in that cat. I did suffer through a lot of high-quality starts in Sept that came up empty, but 8 was a lot to make up. I even had some luck in getting wins from some streamers in Sept. But my primary starters (McClanahan, McKenzie, etc.) kept pitching well and coming up empty. And if I had been too aggressive with SP streamers, I would have put my pitching ratios at great risk.
I needed 34 more Ks to get one more point, and 37 to get two. Perhaps I should have been more aggressive adding SP streamers earlier in the season (when my regular SPs were relatively healthy). I did leave 66 IP on the table, which could certainly have produced 37 more Ks. If only Eovaldi and McClanahan could have stayed healthier down the stretch…
I needed a .04 improvement in ERA to get one more point, or .05 to get 2. Again, at the end of the season, that’s a tall order.
I needed an extra .01 in whip to overtake Thumpers for the lead. That would have been useful, as it would have taken one point away from him as well.
So my best path to #1 was going to require a lot of stats in multiple categories. With 20/20 foresight in what I would need, it may have been doable. But quite frankly, if you had asked me in August if I would settle for 177 points, I'd have probably taken that bet.

Prize pool announcement:
1st Thumper $90 2nd Guru $60 3rd Tree $40 4th Blue Hen [$25-but not in pool] 5th Jon Dowd $20 6th Taxman $15 (tie) 6th Tosh $15 (tie)
Since Blue Hen is not in the pool, our typical practice is to apply his winnings to supplement the trophy fund.
Typically, a 6th place tie would be split among the two tied teams (i.e., $7.50 each). But since we have Blue Hen's $25 forfeiture, I suggest we pay the full $15 to each 6th place finisher, and just move $10 to the trophy fund (which still has ample funds to support several years of trophies - as many champions opt not to receive one.)
Seem OK?

Congrats to Thumper for finally making the grade! What an epic see-saw battle between him and Guru, who probably deserves the title of "Champion 1.B" for pushing it to the brink and keeping it interesting until the very last day.
Congrats to Tree and Blue Hen, too. Tree has built a perennial contender, and it seems BH's demise the last couple seasons was an illusion.
For me, this was my most miserable season in all of my years playing fantasy, dating back to 2000. Coming out of the draft, I expected to compete. But nothing went right, aside from Julio, Michael Harris and Spencer Strider. In a bid for respectability, I did manage to pass five teams in the standings over the last month of the season, and I guess a move from 20th place to 10th place is step in the right direction. But, man, this total rebuild has been gruelling and next year it's top-5 or bust.

Grats to Thumpers on the win! Well deserved.
After a slow start, I was inching up the leaderboard and was hoping for a top half finish, which I had for a day this week, before dropping back to 12th. Still scored over 100 points with 4 of my 6 hitter keepers on the DL. My pitching actually worked out this year for the most part, and I feel my keepers are more obvious and better going into next season. I just couldn't keep my hitters healthy this season.

CONGRATULATIONS Thumper on your very hard fought win. Stressful, ain't it? I probably lost years off my life sweating out every start/every pickup/every trade and even lineup decisions. Then injuries and slumps strike and you must be decisive. Looking too far over your shoulder is also troublesome. But you did it... feels good, huh?
Congrats to Guru on your run. Back and forth for weeks and just came up short.
Excellent season for Tree. Disappointing I'm sure to be 3rd with a score that would win in a lot of years.
I have some administrative work to do....prospect list cleanup...updating draft grids...demerit calculations... preparing for the lotteries. I have been traveling and work is a bear, so please bear with me.
....but I am absolutely open for offseason trade business and consider the G20 offseason to nit really be an offseason. Think about those challenge trades!!!

Demerit calculations (please review):
A team must accumulate a minimum of 1375 GP by hitters over the course of a season. For each 15 games of shortfall, a team is assigned one demerit. Demerits will be integer values only. Thus, a team with 1-15 games of shortfall will receive one demerit, 16-30 will receive 2 demerits, etc.
The following teams failed to meet our GP thresholds (# of demerits incurred):
Nerfherders: 1372 = 1 Jon Dowd: 1369 = 0 (having made 'the money', demerits are ignored) Taxman: 1366 = 0 (having made 'the money', demerits are ignored) Great One: 1358 = 2 Species: 1352 = 2 Bobo: 1351 = 2 Matt G: 1336 = 3 Code Toothpick: 1286 = 5 Donkey Kong: 1226 = 9 A team must accumulate a minimum of 1200 IP over the course of a season. For every shortfall of 15 IP, a team is assigned one demerit. Demerits will be integer values only. Thus, a team with 1-15 IP of shortfall will receive one demerit, 16-30 will receive 2 demerits, etc.
Bobo was the only team to fall short in IP at 1144 = 3
Total demerit accounting. Note - the first 2 demerits are forgiven: Donkey Kong: 9 less 2 forgiven = 7 Code Toothpick: 5 less 2 = 3 Bobo: 5 less 2 = 3 Matt G: 3 less 2 = 1
Species, Great One and Nerfherders each had 2 or less, so after forgiveness 0 demerits.
Having made the money (top 6), Jon Dowd and Taxman have their demerits ignored (and they would have been forgive anyway).

In applying demerits, please note the following rule in our Constitution: If more than one lottery team has a demerit, then the lottery rankings will be successively applied starting with the worst finisher and then moving up to the next worst finisher, etc.
At the start of the application of demerits, the rankings were as follows (no demerits for #1, Vampire Weekend):
2. Bobo 3. DK 4. Code 5. Matt G 6. GO
I apply Bobo's 3 demerits first, resulting in:
2. DK 3. Code 4. Matt G 5. Bobo 6. GO
I then apply DK's 7 demerits, resulting in:
2. Code 3. Matt G 4. Bobo 5. GO 9. DK
I then apply Code's 3 demerits, resulting in:
2. Matt G 3. Bobo 4. GO 5. Code
I last apply Matt's 1 demerit, resulting in:
2. Bobo 3. Matt G 4. GO 5. Code 9. DK
Thus, before applying lottery results, I have the resulting draft order as:
1. Vampire Weekend 2. Bobo 3. Matt G 4. Great One 5. Code Toothpick 6. WG 7. Species 8. Nerfherders 9. DonkeyKong 10. youngroman 11. Lyman 12. bmd 13. Fosten (end of lottery - with Tosh and Taxman tying for the money, it is my interpretation that neither are in the lottery) 14. and 15. coin flip needed between Tosh and Taxman 16. Jon Dowd 17. Blue hen 18. Tree 19. Guru 20. Thumper

Prospect auditing:
The following prospects have exceeded thresholds and are NOT on their owners major league rosters. The following rule is being applied to them (and are noted in bold in the Constitution): Unrostered prospects over threshold maintain their prospect status until next season’s keeper deadline, at which time they must be kept as part of your 9 or renounced
Robert Suarez George Kirby Jarren Duran (by 11 ab - ouch)
The following prospects have exceeded thresholds and ARE on their teams' rosters. As such, they have been REMOVED from the Prospect List and must be kept in their owners' 9 keepers:
Aaron Ashby MJ Melendez Hunter Greene Spencer Torkelson Michael Harris Reid Detmers Riley Greene Adley Rutschmann Bryson Stott Seiya Suzuki Jeremy Pena Jose Miranda
The following prospects have NOT exceeded thresholds but are on their owners' major league rosters. The following rule will be applied to them: Rostered prospects under threshold will be sent-down in order to avoid being counted as a regular keeper. Sadly Yahoo will not let me adjust rosters, so once they release 2023 I will remove these players from their respective owners' rosters:

Just throwing this out there. My current keepers are:
W. Smith N. Lowe D. Swanson C. Javier H. Greene S. Alcantara J. Ryan
2 of A. Kiriloff D. Carlson T. Houck
If you think you can offer me an improvement without killing my ability to keep my prospects and to continue to improve my ranking next year, I'm open to offers. Picks, Prospects, Starters, etc.
Not interested in a 5 mediocre for 1 stud trade where I'll only keep 1 of those guys next year. I need a net gain year to year. My goal is still in the running within 2 years.

This is the time to bring up, discuss and potentially vote on any rule changes for the upcoming year, particularly if it impacts GP and IP minimums or reconsidering Saves plus Holds (which we could conceivably vote in now and put into effect for 2024). Anything that could impact keeper considerations should be dealt with early.
I mentioned GP and IP minimums, which had been a hot topic over the years. I think they worked well this year, keeping teams active.
Saves plus Holds was another big one we should consider early.
What other rule considerations should we bring up or revisit? - Are you happy with the trade moratorium? - Does the trade review committee work as intended? - Are you happy with Prospects being IR eligible? - Whatever else

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought prospects and 10th keepers were already IL eligible.
Abolish the Trade Moratorium. I didn't like it and voted it down when it first went to vote, and - as predicted then - it handcuffed me big time when a number of players I drafted, who had big time trade value at the time, were worthless after a couple of cold weeks in April when the Trade Moratorium finally passed. Yes, I was bitter about it then, and essentially it contributed big time in ruining my season and fun by May 1. I don't understand the point of a Trade Moratorium in an established keeper league.

Yes to S + H Yes to Prospects and 10ths being eligible for the IL
Abolish the innings and games limits... second straight year of demerits despite rotating as many positions out as possible, I hit the pitching limit barely but it was impossible to hit the games limit with my team constantly hurt and not wanting to drop guys to pick up other guy and lose out on potential keepers.

Yes to s + h.
I don’t have a number in mind but think the minimums should be lowered. When I took over the team after the season had started I was already in a deficit situation and basically had to scramble for the rest of the season to make the minimums causing pick ups just to get games and a couple of innings.

Count me as one who prefers GP minimums and IP minimums remain the same. I think expectations should be that this league is for the hyper-active fantasy manager. That's certainly the impression I got upon joining. You need 7.5 players playing in your daily lineup to reach the GP minimum, and 6.5 innings pitched daily to reach the IP minimum. This ensures that every manager is still setting his lineup in late Sept / early Oct and a multi-team championship race is not won or lost as a result of another manager going inactive and not accruing stats. Nobody wants that.
If anything, I would rather see the active roster expanded from 23 to 24, if that is what is necessary to keep the GP and IP minimums the same. But that, of course, means a free agent pool that is 20 players shallower.

Also, we need not discuss or vote on prospects and 10th keepers as IL eligible, as they were for the entirety of 2022. From the constitution:
Injured List / "IL" slots:
Four (4) IL slots will be allowed for use. Eligibility for these slots are designated for use ONLY for:
1. Players kept in any team's 9 keepers at the beginning of the current season. This eligibility is carried with the player even if acquired via trade. 2. Prospects that were called up and renounced - i.e. 10th keepers - at the current year’s Prospect Keeper deadline. 3. Prospects that are called up but still on the prospect list
This eligibility is NOT allowed for a keeper player if they are acquired via the FA pool or waiver wire

354: Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean in post 345 to suggest that any of these rules were bad. It was more "hey, these were some tweaks we implemented in recent seasons, what do you think?".
The intent of allowing 10th keepers as IR-eligible was the perspective that:
"Yo, if you want me to meet minimums I can't do that if 3 or 4 of my key long-term keepers are injured. Give me more flexibility to manage my roster but keep my cornerstone players for the long term."
I believe the rule accomplishes that and I support it as is.
I also still support minimums. As noted by Lyman, this league is intended to be an effort league. When you are in contention and every counting stat could impact the final standings, you appreciate that all teams were paying attention!
There is enough support to put S + H to a vote, but I want to put all offseason items to a vote at one time, so keep the discussion on any other items, or bring up new items please!
On S + H, no matter what this would not take effect until at least 2024. I want to hear opinions as to when it would go into effect.

356: True, but what are our alternatives?
GO has been around long enough to remember our ambiguous "you must have a full, legal lineup every day" rule. That means that your starting lineup must be filled with someone that is on the 25-man roster and not injured. That's basically it. You could tank like nobody's business and all we really had in terms of recourse was another ambiguous "for the good of the league" type of commissioner authority.....which then brings opinion into account.
We adopted a simple quantitative rule instead. No issues with favoritism. Nothing open to interpretation. You made it or you didn't.
With the 2 demerit forgiveness, I think it works. But this is our league. 20 voices. Let's hear them.

I've always hated the GP/IP minimums.
It's actually tougher to reach these minimums when you're in the tier of the standings, and it makes an already crappy season all the more miserable because you've got to through what amounts to, as GO pointed out, a grind.
It's not fun to be out of contention in a league this deep. it's even less fun to be forced to rotate players in and out to not be punished further for having a crappy team.
In all the years i've played on non-public leagues across many sports, I can only think of a couple of instances where someone appeared to be tanking. The most recent example resulted in removing that person from the league.
Why not use the trade committee as a "tank" committee? We've all been playing for long enough that most tank jobs are obvious.

Endangered Species open for business!!
I could go a lot of directions this winter, but have so many fascinating options that I am pumped to talk trade this year.
The Veterans: Jose Abreu: But he's 35. But he's a free agent. But he only had 15 HR. All true.
Look deeper. - 93rd percentile exit velocity. 97th % hard hit rate - 96th% xwOBA. 98th% xBA. 92nd% xSLG
Still a beast and excited for where he will land. Houston? Tampa Bay in the middle of all of that talent?
Anthony Rendon - a no doubt disappointment overall in his tenure with the Angels, but I find it impossible to think he has forgotten how to hit. Hitting in a lineup with Ohtani, Trout, Ward and probably a FA SS is a good place to be.
Andrew Heaney - LAD magic dust resulted in a 3.10 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 110k in 72.2 IP.
Rising stars: Taylor Ward: Started 2022 with an unsustainable .392/.500/.784 slash line in April and a .314/.429/.614 in May. Missed time in late May to early June with shoulder issues and followed that up with an IL stint for a hamstring. Found his stroke again in September to the tune of .370/.429/.630 September in 105 PA. Lest you think it fluky, check out his Baseball Savant page - more red than the Angels uniforms (and red is good).
Nolan Gorman - Still on the Prospect List and 10th keeper eligible. 2b eligibility and 14 HR in 283 AB. Do you know many 30-HR second baseman?
Logan Gilbert - Modern day horse logged 185 strong innings as a 25 y/o, delivering a 3.20 ERA.....and the weird thing is that he gives up too much hard contact. Just needs some modest refinement in his secondary stuff to take it to the next level.
Alexis Diaz - Who else would CIN invest in as closer? 1.84 ERA. 0.96 WHIP. 83k in 63.2IP. Fastball held hitters to a .127 average and a 31.1% whiff percentage. Edwin's brother has the pedigree.
Andres Munoz - 2.49 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 96k (!!) in 65 innings (13.3 K/9). He ranked in the 99th percentile in xBA, XSLG, K%, Whiff% and Chase rate. He just needs the opportunity.
The Prospects Anthony Volpe - a consensus top-10 prospect 2 years running provides great contact skills, batting eye, supportive power and elite speed. Poor man's Trea Turner? He is NOT a prospect so must be kept in your 9. If I didn't have fantasies about contending I would just keep him myself and have a cornerstone stud to build upon.
Alek Thomas - consensus top 25 prospect in 2022 with huge hit tool. Not a 30 HR hitter but a foundation piece for the ascending DBacks in an OF of Thomas/Carroll/McCarthy. Was 10th keepered last year and eclipsed limits so much be kept in your 9.
Diego Cartaya - soaring up prospect lists with elite power and skills to stick behind the plate.
Easy Keepers Francisco Lindor - still in his prime and found his footing in Queens with elite counting stats.
Christian Yelich - will likely never be the 2019 MVP monster but a mainstay keeper with elite OBP, runs and contributing HR/RBI combined with 15+ SB.
Ty France - was elite the first two months before hurting his wrist, hitting .337/.411/.554 in April and .355/.427/.473 in May. A cornerstone for the rising Mariners and 1b/3b eligible.
DeGrom and Urias are studs.
Looking at almost anything, except getting volume back. Picks okay as part of a deal or for some of the riskier guys. Premium prospects also considered.

Still looking to package multiple guys for a top shelf hitter. Including Verlander, Hoskins, Gleyber, JDMart, and Suarez, all of whom have never not been kept.
Would also package young guys for picks, including Frelick, Toglia, Bo Naylor, Tiedeman, or James Wood, all of whom you are going to hear a lot about in March.

I know I'm late to the party, but:
I support a move to S+H
I'd also support lowering or removing GP and IP thresholds. It turns this league into an absolute GRIND that is hard to justify for us lower-tier teams. We're not tanking, it would be obvious if we were! I'd support a "tanking committee" if people find that a reasonable compromise.
Another compromise could be just increasing who is eligible for IL. Why are only keepers eligible? Very hard to meet GP and IP thresholds if you get bit by the injury bug and don't want to drop your guys.
Not going to post my team but always open for trades or pick swaps.

Rotowire was Oswald Peraza as a top 30 prospect and he is probably the Yankees SS with the free agent SS off the market. I have him on the MLB side and will trade him for a simple draft pick. Top 30 prospects will be gone by the first 10 picks of the prospect draft.

On S+H I saw online that some dynasty startups use S+(H/2). Maybe that’s a decent compromise for those worried holds would be too strong? Unsure if yahoo would support it anyway

I am waiting for Yahoo to launch Fantasy Baseball for 2023 before starting a real push towards our preseason activities. Hoping / trusting that everyone will turn their full attention to G20 rosters, trades and rule voting.
Heads up: once Yahoo launches, I will be requiring all teams to get down to our roster limit of 23 players - limits that were exceeded legally due to players on IR. Before any team can transact a trade or the like, Yahoo requires it. I will 'send down' (drop) prospects that need to be sent down (i.e. Corbin Carroll), and I will require teams to drop a player in order to 'call up' those from the prospect list that have exceeded limits and must be kept in your 9. There should be ample drops available.

Yahoo has launched their 2023 Fantasy Baseball product, which now allows us to adjust rosters, make trades, etc.
After a highly disappointing, sleepy offseason, with the site now open and pitchers and catchers reporting in a few weeks, it is time for everyone to step up and give our league the attention it deserves.
First order of business: PLEASE POST HERE TO CONFIRM YOUR DEDICATION TO G20 FOR 2023!
Second order of business - roster cleanup. Our rules state that rosters may not exceed 23 players. A long list of teams legally exceeded that limit with players on IR. Now that we are in the new year, I am enforcing that rule which will allow for accuracy of rosters as well as all trades in the leadup to our keeper deadline.
The following teams need to drop their respective number of players: Code Toothpick: 1 DonkeyKong: 4 blue hen: 3 (this includes making room for Robert Suarez - see below) Tree: 1 (Jarren Duran, see below) Great One: 4 Jon Dowd: 2 Matt G: 3 Fosten: 3 Nerfherders: 5 (!) VampireWeekend: 3 youngroman: 2 (after I dropped Ohtani the pitcher myself)
Make your drops yourself if you can. Otherwise either post here or text me who you want to drop. Please make these drops ASAP.
Third order of business: Prospect cleanup. Three prospects exceeded limits while on the prospect list. By rule, those prospects lost prospect eligibility and are considered called up at the end of the season and are now treated like any other player on your active roster. Those were: Robert Suarez - blue hen George Kirby - Code Toothpick Jarren Duran - Tree
Additionally, prospects who are on a team's active roster at seasons end while retaining prospect eligibility are, by rule, sent back down to the prospect list at the end of the year. Those were Corbin Carroll (Thumper) and CJ Abrams (Lyman). They retain all prospect rights, including (most obviously in these cases) the ability to be "10th keepered" after the keeper deadline.
Opening Day is March 30th. My first run at a possible preseason schedule is as follows:
- Keepers due Noon ET on Monday March 13th - Prospect keepers Noon ET on Tuesday March 14th - Prospect draft starts Noon ET on Wednesday March 15th - Supplemental draft opens Friday March 17th - Supplemental draft clock starts Noon ET Saturday March 18th - Moratorium on trading KEEPERS goes from the Keeper Deadline for 30 days, expiring Noon ET on April 12th
Time to get some trades in! Nearly everyone should have heard from me over the winter. Wake up and let's go!

I am not ignoring you, I will reply to all of them in due time, I know it's trade time in G20 but my work is extremely busy and my son takes up any extra time that I have. Hoping we can discuss and vote on these for 2024: - Lower minimums by 200 IP and 100 GP. It shouldn’t be a struggle, we just don’t want dead teams. - Shorten moratorium to 3 days after the draft finishes. - Players with a username that starts with B get 11 keepers.

Rule changes discussion:
Saves plus Holds -- this will be voted on. Will be a two-part vote: 1) yes or no. 2) what year of implementation? With any vote that has a material impact on keeper value, consideration for the negative impact upon those holding stud closers is essential.
Lowering IP/GP Minimums -- I am going to say my peace once and then basically abstain because of my role as Commish. Put simply, I support fixed minimums because it's defined. It's fair and applies equally to everyone. No favoritism. No point of view / determination required.
The sentiment in lowering the minimums appears to revolve around two general principles:
1) It's a pain / I don't like streaming crappy guys / it hurts my ratios
2) We know the difference between tanking and a lack of streaming / we all know each other and can trust in our comrades not to tank
Retorts: On #1, part of the point is to make every stat count so that the contenders are earning every point. Nothing sucks worse than to see your rival gain points in counting stats when middle-down teams are coasting.
On #2, by making the concept of tanking subjective instead of objective, then you almost start making it personal. Worse, at least speaking selfishly, is that it is typically dependent upon me to take action after private texts / IM complaints from owners. Sure, we DO all know a true tank / lack of attention when we see it, but there is a lot of danger of hurt feelings when fingers start getting pointed.
Moratorium Change - this is the first time it has been brought up. Please present your case.
Any others? Pitchers and catchers are reporting this week. The time is now so get in any other considerations and we will get moving on the voting.

1a. Yes 1b. 2024 1c. Can we do .5/h 1/S? 2. Yes.
-More rationale on lowering minimums. It adversely affects the bottom quarter of the league even when trying to be competitive. For example, I've missed the minimums in either pitching or hitting in the last two seasons. I did this while rotating crap players in and out, trying to keep up. I still say that I am 1-2 years away from truly competing; even with the trade I made with Amit that I think makes my team that much more competitive. I have had a few inquiries for me to take players who are high-level prospects on active rosters, I've had to turn them down because I need EVERY roster spot available to make the innings limits. You see, I could REALLY invest in my team and set myself up for 2 years but I cannot for fear of missing limits and getting bumped down the draft order via demerits.
By doing this I'm essentially damming my team to mediocrity because I cannot score that prospect or two that could put me over the top when my team would be ready. Instead I'm holding on to a couple players that would just get me the innings and GP that I need rather than really building my team.

No on saves plus holds and the year doesn’t matter to me, but let’s go with 2099. Holds are garbage and shame on you if you vote for them.
The original proposal for the moratorium was pre-agreed trades before the draft even started. I think we’re safe to go when the draft ends, when teams have forged an identify. Last year was annoying just waiting when there were clear moves to make.
For the minimums, I agree it has to be a solid number. And while I think most teams should have to struggle with crappy players, these limits go overboard. Let’s just lower them a bit.
Glad everyone liked my other proposal. BMD thanks you.

[428] S + .5H is not an available option at Yahoo.
There are good reasons to support S+H, and good reasons to oppose the change. You can argue that holds is a garbage stat. You can also argue that saves is a garbage stat.
Using saves only - with their relative scarcity and volatility - does provide opportunities for weaker teams to add some incremental future value via mid-to-late season trades. Then again, if your team is weak because of a lack of viable closers, then that's a moot point.
My preference is to stay with saves only,... but I could live with the change if it were deferred to 2024.
I'm fine with leaving the minimums as they are, but don't have a strong feeling. I'd be more inclined to relax the restrictions on IL slots (i.e., allowing at least one IL slot to be used for any player, not just keepers or prospects.)
so, for the record: 1) No on S+H 2) No on reducing minimums
...and while you're at it, "get off my lawn"...

All trades passed review, the trade in <425> did have 2 vetos as members felt it was significantly imbalanced value-wise and could not understand the trade from both sides.
1. S+H please, 2024. I understand the arguments for Saves being able to help a lower team, but it’s the same small handful of teams who are winning the race to the keyboard to add new closers which change at the whim of the manager. Holds aren’t perfect, but there are some great 8th inning arms who should be more sought after than your garbage committee closer. We don’t have large benches, so not too considered with teams deploying large RP quantities
2. Agree to lower mins by greater than 50
Would be nice to relax IL a bit and like Guru’s idea.

As a point of reference, a decade ago you could reasonably expect, barring injury, that you could run 6 starters and 3 relievers and easily reach a minimum. (I couldn't figure out when we instituted the mins but it was installed at least as far back as 2016)
The top 120 SP IP average: 2012: 179.3 2017: 161.3 2022: 153.2
In this era we need more than one extra full time starting pitcher to reach what we could have gotten with six SP just a decade ago. In 2012 31 pitchers reached 200 IP - in 2022 that number was 8.
50 IP is probably not enough. It should be at least 100.
As far as GP, that one is tough because catchers simply don't work as much as they used to (part of that is because catchers in this era, quite frankly, suck offensively). I think everyone should be expected to get 150 GP out of each position but catcher, and then maybe 120 out of catcher. That would be a reduction of about 50 GP.

1) No on S+H 2) No on reducing minimums
Regarding 1) I’m a roto traditionalist and simply don’t want to deal with S+H. Plus, having S as a category instead of S+H makes the league more dynamic because of the unique value it creates with closers. Many different ways to attack it and I like that.
Regarding 2) I’m flying a bit blind on how hard it may be to hit minimums now but am generally in favor of making sure every stat counts. Nothing more irritating than seeing teams that have checked out, who are still a factor in certain categories, when you’re in the thick of a title race. We have a prospect draft as a means to improve that is shielded from this discussion all together.
I’d actually like to get rid of the possibility of stashing players who haven’t had a major league appearance on your active squad. It would place even more emphasis on the prospect draft and consequently make hitting minimums not as difficult but that’s a topic for a different day.

Ok, I am putting these to a vote and we can decide once and for all. Interesting, for all of the focus on IP, only 1 team was short on IP last year. That said, the evolution of bullpens, 'openers', etc. there is an obvious decrease in IP from starters. As such, I am putting this forth with a 100 IP reduction.
Games played to me is mostly effort and attention. The game has changed for IP. It has not for GP. I am putting it forth with a 50 GP reduction.
Required League Votes:
1) Do you wish to change the Saves category to the sum of Saves plus Holds?
Further - and this is required even if you vote no - if this passes, do you vote to implement this change:
a) 2024 b) 2025
2) Changes to Minimum IP and GP thresholds. Do you wish to lower the Minimum IP from 1200 to 1100 and the Minimum GP from 1375 to 1325?
Vote yes or no.

2021: 14 teams met the GP min. 16 teams met the IP min. 2022: 11 teams met the GP min. 19 teams met the IP min.
Curious that people think IP is the issue, when the data says it's the GP.

RE: 457
I missed IP in 2021 so I focused my bench on pitchers thinking I'd be fine on GP as I had the same core. I was fine on innings but I missed on GP because I didn't rotate enough.
And for those who think it's just that I don't want to add/drop. That's not my strategy. So to base a rule off of, you should make the moves, you're alienating an entire category of players who don't rotate out looking for that next hit and instead hope their draft holds up.

I have always been opposed to holds because I think they're a stupid stat. That being said, I think saves are a stupid stat, too. Wins, as well. I once suggested here that G20 use all ratio stats for pitching (ERA, WHIP, K/9, K/BB ratio, etc). Crickets! Kind of like when I suggested adding one more roster spot to pacify those complaining about minimums. More crickets!
The thing about saves in a 20-team league, especially in the year 2023, is that there aren't enough closers to go around. I know this has all been hashed and rehashed a dozen times here, but that is the bottom line. I used to LOVE chasing saves. Was one of the things I enjoyed most about fantasy. But there's no chasing saves in a 20-team league, so that art is lost.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that rebuilding teams can benefit from trading closers to contending teams. In 2021, I was fortunate enough to get Beastie to overpay for Jake McGee. Pick 1.20 for a middling closer. And this is no disrespect to Beastie. In fact, it's more of a championing of the former champ. Dude knows that a first round supp pick in this league is of no big value. And, indeed, that 1.20 netted me the 2022 version of Josh Donaldson. The next 10 picks? Wong, Candelario, Knebel, Bednar, Yuli, Grossman, Desclafani, Happ, Soto, Ynoa. Who from that group are you rebuilding with? And that 1.20 was an overpay. Usually, we're seeing 3rd round picks or later as the in-season return for closers. Good luck rebuilding with those.
Anyway, I did a great deal of research in 2021 regarding SV+HLD leagues - including in-depth data and online chats with a few hardcore old guard type managers who transitioned to SV+HLD leagues and never looked back. I won't bother posting the data results. It's a year old now and I used tabs so it probably would not format well. And I believe it probably wouldn't change anybody's mind anyway. It changed mine, though.

Thanks for the in depth consideration, Lyman. I don’t agree but I won’t deny you’ve taken time to consider the issue.
Just some rambling thoughts… I don’t like Lyman’s ratio idea because it’s not diverse enough. K/9 AND K/bb? Strikeout guys now get a huge bump. I like saves because it’s a different world. It’s a different set of players and, like homers, you’re looking for the guy who is likely to get them in general while also looking for the guy who will get one today.
Saves are a garbage stat in real baseball, but not in fantasy. There is no more than one per team, and he’s on the winning team, and he has to hit a level of performance in a key part of the game.
Guy comes into a 3 run game in the 6th inning. Gives up a double and a walk, plus a long fly out. Then someone else comes in and puts out the fire. The team loses the game, but the player gets a hold. You telling me you want to guess who is going to get the most of THOSE in a season?
We’re now adding a new category when our rosters are unbelievably thin. Good luck hitting those minimums with even fewer slots available. Maybe you’ll have to make a move or two.
I bet we’d come closer to guessing the saves leaderboard than the holds leaderboard, 100 out of 100 times.
Garbage stat, and I’m standing by it. Saves and wins aren’t perfect, but they’re Ian Happ to your Mike Trout. Holds are Bryse Wilson.
I know it won’t help, but please don’t do this.

Right now, 18 of 20 managers have voted. Normally I would only vote if necessary. But we sit here on the precipice and my vote could make either of these pass, so there is no sense in not declaring. My votes are No on each.
We are awaiting youngroman's vote - anyone have him on whatsapp or other more immediate method?
The votes stand as follows:
Saves plus holds: 10 yes, 9 no. 2024 has 11 votes and would pass if the motion passes.
Minimums was ONE vote for both. 10 yes, 9 no.
Apologies for my discord mess. taxman posted twice, Tosh had 'yes' but then explained no so that effed up my count.
If minimums fail as proposed, there appears to be a clear desire to both: 1) JUST reduce IP; and 2) relaxing IL rules.

[474-475] I would suggest that we simply decide that one IL slot can be filled by any rostered player, regardless of keeper or prospect status. I guess I'd also suggest that if a player is already injured when he is added to a roster, he is not eligible to be stashed until after he has recovered and then become injured again (while still on the same roster).
I don't see that this significantly increases compliance monitoring requirements, as we already have a rule that cannot be automatically enforced by Yahoo.

480 - Agreed. Why complicate things with an additional IL slot when you can simply add an extra roster slot, both relaxing the strain of having a useful but IL-designated non-keeper on the bench while also throwing a bone to those complaining about minimums?

Prospect SP Daniel Espino available for your last round prospect pick. Espino is tied with De La Cruz, Chourio and Jackson Holliday as Fangraphs #2 overall ranked prospect, updated yesterday. Espino is a strikeout artist and could be the AL version of Spencer Strider and is in the vaunted Cleveland pitching system. Out for 8 weeks with a shoulder injury. The Dodgers' Julio Urias suffered this same injury and we know how he turned out. There's obviously huge value to be had here. Text or instant message me at Discord, if interested.

Like the Moves Cap rule, this is mostly targeted at one manager.
Starting in 2024, the previous winner of G20 is only allowed to keep 8 players. Back-to-back winners only keep 7. Threepeaters only keep 6.
Actually, Thump kept Bellinger, Story, Votto, and Chris Taylor last year, so perhaps we need to go lower.

CJ Cron available for a mid round pick swap or prospect pick. Doval available for a (higher) prospect pick this year or next. Or 2024 supp pick(s) I suppose. Saves are the cool thing now!

I’m disappointed in the committee, but respect the role that the committee plays, and the difficulty they face. I will plan to rework the trade with Bobo, but hope people can see that is a difficult task that puts me at a disadvantage due to seemingly ambiguous standards- there have been other trades I deem unbalanced that have passed.
I do think I am reasonable to ask the committee for a comparison between this deal and the Joe Musgrove deal. Prior to that deal, Lyman offered Espino for a P5, so in essence, Musgrove was deemed to be worth the upgrade of a P5 to a P1, plus S1.11, plus an S3. In the rotowire app, Suarez is ranked 90, and Musgrove is ranked 120. Given the small age difference, Musgrove moves up, but less so when considering that pitchers are more volatile than hitters, and Suarez’s deeper track record. I agree that Musgrove is a more valuable asset, but it’s fairly close. If Musgrove is actually worth the value listed above, I think it’s entirely reasonable that Suarez is worth a lower S pick, a lower P pick, no S3, and a higher S pick coming back. Please tell me where my logic has failed here.
As I said, I’m planning to rework the trade with Bobo and hope that one sails through.

All trades have been processed. Considering selling S1.08, Jose Abreu, Christian Yelich and Jacob DeGrom for future considerations - prospects and prospect picks, injured keepers, etc.
Francisco Lindor potentially available for more significant future considerations. TOP top prospect(s), high picks and younger players considered.
Also willing to wait and let guys break out early in the year, but the price goes up a bit given that I would be burning keeper spots on them.
