Welcome back for another year of RIFC Football.
There are still a few managers yet to join the league.
If you haven't received an invitation, let me know and I will resend it.
Last year, it took 11 days to complete this draft. The season starts this year on Sept. 5th. We sould probably start the draft by August 19th. Does this work for everyone?
If there are any conflicts or issues with ths date, please let us know here or contact me by email.
Once everyone joins the league, we can move forward and start on the draft order.
Guru has paid the cost of all RIFC leagues, including ours. A voluntary donation of $5 per manager is suggested to help defray the cost. Please see the instructions on the GuruPatron info page.

Like Guru did in the RIFC, I'm going to use the randomize function in MFL to set the order for our draft selection round. We can then get started on that process.
Remember that our actual draft uses a Bonzai format, which means that it is a normal snake EXCEPT that the 3rd round is reversed. So the team picking first overall picks last in each of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds.
For audit purposes, you'll each get an email showing the random draft order. Just be aware that this order (the first round order) will only be used for our draft selection round, and not the actual draft.

I'd like to open a discussion on when we should start our draft. Originally I said it took 11 days to draft this league last year. That was incorrect. With Judy as commish, we finished in a week. No single manager averaged over 1 hour per pick by the end of the draft. That's pretty impressive, but very doable if everyone pays attention and uses the MFL queue system appropriately.
Granted I'm not the taskmaster that she is, but we have 5 members returning from that league and everyone at this level has at least one season's experience using the queue system on MFL. And we all know how fast the drafts can fly on MFL when those without easy internet access all day use the queue system.
With all these early injuries this year, I'd like to begin our draft as late as possible, so the way I see it, starting on the 19th is too early IMO. Ideally, I'd prefer to start right after the 3rd week of preseason games. That would be an Aug 25th start with the first game on Thursday, Sept 5th. But with the Labor Day weekend coming Sept 1-3, that might be problematic for some and cutting it too close, as we still need to run wavers before the first game.
Also, the RIFC has not stated their official draft start time. Since all members of this league have either drafted with the RIFC last season or hope to next season, I think we should also consider that.
Now I know some folks are chomping at the bit to get started ASAP, but I think it'd be much wiser to start as late as possible, taking into account all of the above mentioned factors.

Finishing before the holiday weekend can be done, though 5 days will take max effort and cooperation from all teams.
Just getting done in a week requires a minimum of 48 picks per day. That's almost 3.5 rounds per day.
From past experience we know how fast an MFL draft can fly if everyone utilizes the queue system.

We'll be starting our draft on Sunday at noon ET. It will be untimed until we get through the first round. Thereafter, there will be a 6 hour clock with a nightly pause, exact times yet to be determined, but most likely whatever Guru decides for the RIFC.
To complete the draft on Friday before the holiday weekend, we must average 56 picks or exactly 4 rounds per day. Those using queues please take note. If we fail to make that quota (Sunday espcially), we can easily make up the time during the weekdays. AAA #1 made almost 70 picks yesterday.
Please observe draft courtesy and keep us informed if you are going to be out of touch for anything over an hour or so and use the queue system if you are going to be unavailable for any longer period of time. As you all well know, these drafts on MFL can fly through a couple of rounds in no time with managers utilizing the queue system.

What do you want to do about rationales? Or is the comments section of MFL adequate, even though not many have used them.
I was thinking about an alternative... make notes in the comments section as we're drafting, then use those notes to write a bit more comprehensive post draft analysis.
But I'm up for whatever. If some have written rationales, I'll gladly create a threat to post them. Always an interesting read.
Regardless, all of us are hoping to be writing rationales in the RIFC next seaason, so I'd think it appropriate to communicate our draft thoughts/reasons/rationales in some form.
What say you?

I set up blind bidding to commence at 4pm this afternoon, with claims ending at noon ET Wednesday (Sept 4). We are using conditional blind bidding this year, so the processing may look a bit different than last season. Even if you aren't planning to submit a claim for this first period, you should probably take a look at the setup to make you you understand how it is done. Minimum bid is $1, and bids must be in increments of $1. Everyone gets $100 to start the season.
I set up the reverse of the draft selection order (post 11) as the custom waiver order. That should only be used as a last tiebreaker when settling tied claims.
Each Wednesday, blind bid claims will be processed at noon on Wednesday. Following a 3-hour lockout, first-come, first served free agent add/drops will start at 3pm.
