Slowhand -- It was sort of a no brainer to select LT, so I was pretty sure we would get at least one draft pick before next week. Now you have a long wait though..
Just out of curiosity, did you get an email from Kafenatid to tell you you were "on the clock"?
Also, good job finding the new link so fast!

Yes I did...2 of them in fact;lol. Hey just FYI. Normally we need 2 threads; 1 that is used exclusivley for draft picks and 1 that is for discussion. We could use this one for discussion and you could start one labeled as such exclusively for draft picks. It's a lot easier to keep track of where we're at in the draft. Also if folks could post their draft picks using the format I used in post 1 (1.01,1.02.1.03....2.01.2.02 etc.) before the name of the player they've chosen it will cut down on confusion about who's up.
Thanks again judy for your work, you're doing a great job...we're up and running before any of the "big boys".

Hmm Slowhand,
I figured people would just look directly onto Kafenatid to see who is picking whom. They do a nice job of tracking that in tables. I am trying to keep thing really simple now -- we pushed really hard to get going and we all need to relax for a few days before the clock gets turned on for "real."
Anyone else have an opinion for/against a thread EXCLUSIVELY to list draft picks?
Thanks for the update SwinganaMiss.

If we're going to do rationales we could use an exclusive thread for those instead of a draft thread. Probably a good idea since we are the first RIFC draft to start.
-We would need two stay at least two rounds behind the draft.
-also remember not to name or refer to any players who havn't been drafted yet

I was figuring on a draft recap/rationale when we were all done -- on a volunteer basis. Last year about half of the managers wrote one.
It is not required in AA.

1. If we're using Kafenatid there is no need for a draft pick thread.
2. I suggest starting a rationale thread (at the beginning of round 3) and seeing how it goes. If there's not enough interest it may have to be euthanized.
3. Judy, you mght consider asking if there are any moderators in the league you would be willing to move rationales to their proper spot when necessary.

In Kafenatid do I actually have to individually select each player into my que, or is there a way to load the entire player list and then sort it?? Also, is there some way to call up players by position??

Is it under the public draft header? I selected "no"; should it be "yes'?
Dave Pyro -- I think you need to load each player individually sorted by last name...

GURU a scoring question:
I am trying to make sure that IDP can get these points (Under Team Defense):
Here are the rules as Copy /Pasted off one of our threads:
Individual Players get the following points: Award 6.00 points for kickoff return touchdowns in the range of 0 to 110. - Punt Return Touchdowns Individual Players get the following points: Award 6.00 points for punt return touchdowns in the range of 0 to 110. - Kickoff Return Yards Individual Players get the following points: Award 0.04 points for each 1 kickoff return yard. - Punt Return Yards Individual Players get the following points: Award 0.10 points for each 1 punt return yard.
AOL only gives three choices: 1) Offensive player 2) Team Defense 3) Offensive Player and Team Defense.
I chose 1) offensive player, but the C/P above says "individual player." Can you help here? Is there a difference?
Thanks.

Public draft should be set to "yes".
I think you have the scoring set correctly. Essentially, when a player is returning a kickoff or a punt, he is considered an "offensive player" for that play, regardless of his position eligibility.

I need your vote/consensus about starting the timed draft.
AAA#1 is doing this: "The clock will be set at 6 hours, with a moratorium from 11pm-7am EDT. If the clock expires, the next person in line will get to draft, and the skipped drafter will make up his skipped pick whenever he can. The clock will continue to run on weekends."
AAA#2 is starting at 7 am Tuesday, August 14th, and run from 7 am to 11 pm and NOT on weekends.
This is what I propose we do:
1) a 6 hour clock (but PLEASE try and use less time...) 2) due to our 10 time zone spread, use a 6 am to midnight time for drafting 3) no stopping on weekends -- same 6 am to midnight time 4) start the draft at 6:15 pm EDT on Tuesday, August 14th. 5) all the skipping stuff mentioned by AAA#1 is automatic in kafenatid.
I see from my commish's peeking that only two people have set up queues already. Hopefully, you were waiting for this weekend's games to end. You should try NOT to use the full 6 hours as that will put us way behind and it frustrates those who are next in line to draft.
We need to average at least one complete round (14 picks) per day to finish on time, since we have 24 rounds to draft and we need to be finished by Sept 2/5th? (I can't find the thread with the exact date in it...!).
Please respect the other managers and try to pick in a timely manner. Also please check this thread at least once a day.
Thanks -- and lucky drafting to you all!

I'm a little confused about what to do here...
The guy(s) i'm targeting might or might not have issues which might or might not be something I would like to monitor before committing the #3 pick in the draft.
On the other hand, I don't want to be a prick and make the entire league wait for a week.
Suggestions?

A note on drafting etiquette/protocol:
Once your draft has started, it is appropriate to pick when your turn has come and you are aware of it. If you need some time to do some last minute research, that is OK. But it is not appropriate to wait an inordinate amount of time just in case one of the candidates gets injured or is subject to some other breaking news.
In other words, Pops, you should make up your mind and pick now. It's one of the risks of the game.

Pops: Our draft doesn't officially start until Tuesday, October 14, partly so no one was required to make a pick under time deadline of someone who might be yet to play in an exhibition game this weekend while others might be choosing players from teams which had already played. So for this one pick in this special circumstance it's appropriate to wait until your prospective pick has played his exhibition game this week, if that is relevant. If you were to have picked a certain player today, I would not have been picking until tonight's games were over.
But if you're just waiting on the hope/speculation that there might be news on your player any time, most people would consider that to be a breach of etiquette as Guru said.
Course it's your team and there is no penalty for breaches of etiquette except social disapprobation.

TORAL -- October 14th? OOPS.
I picked the 6:15 pm start so that no one has an excuse NOT to have a queue ready or to not be checking in. The am start is tough for the west coasters (6 am = 3 am) and if one of them is on the clock we'd have to wait anyway. I am hoping folks can be near their computers on Tuesday afternoon/night and we can roll quickly.
That said -- creating a queue makes waiting a mute point...

This is a silly question, but I need to ask it as I do not remember from last year:
If a person sets up a queue and makes it "available", does Kafenatid automatically put the top player from the queue into the draft spot? That's the whole point about the queue -- right?
or
is that something that the commish (me) has to actively do?
Anyone remember?

IIRC when you make your queue "available" it is visible only to the commissioner and and "designated pickers" whom you can chose to make your picks for you.The commisioner or designated picker must actually make your pick from your queue. If your queue is listed as "unavailable" you and only you can see your queue and make a pick.

Judy, you are a default DP as commish. "Available" makes the queue system available for the DPs to see the queue, but a DP must make the pick.
There are also settings for just the first name to show up in the queue, or all the names in the queue to be shown.
This is where your draft thread becomes important. Be sure to check it for any special instructions before making the pick.

I agree with #17 and #21 except the obvious October foopah.
3am on West Coast will be hard, but I will look at 5:30am. This will work as long as the clock limit does not fall below 2 hours.
Question: The clock stops at 9:00pm on West Coast, can we keep picking if it is our turn?? Also, if the person in front of me picks at 8:00pm Eastern, then 4 hours of my clock will expire, so that means I will have only 2 hours on next morning to pick, right?? This will only happen in an emergency, but I want to know.
I have designated the persons on either side of me as well as Judy as designator pickers.

That said, a heads up for this Saturday, August 18th, when I will NOT be able to DP from your queue from 7 Am until about 5 PM, so if it looks like your turn is coming up, assign a DP other than me to pick for you.
Davepyro,
My understanding is that it is 6 hours total start to finish, so your breakdown of 4 hours then only 2 more the next day is correct.

Judy, Can you find out about a draft setting for me?? I was carefully watching for my pick in round #2 when I stepped away and it was made for me in only one minute. It was my desired choice so no biggee. My small question is: If you have a draft que, is that pick made as soon as it is your turn?? Or did one of my DP's make the choice?? Why so quickly?? Can we request that our DP's wait an hour or so in later rounds?? I wish to repeat that I have no problem with the pick, just want to know the timings. If we all have ques, this thing will be over tomorrow.

I made one more peek before the crash...
The DP gets a notice from Katenafid that they are "on the clock" as a DP'er for XX. I did not make that pick for you, but you must have had a DP set up. However, as commish, I can DP off of any list when it is a picker's turn. (I only see the selection when it is the picker's turn.) I select whomever's name is in the slot. (It would be the first person in your list.)
Quite often the DP is right before your pick and so they pick quickly so that it is their turn next. If you want the DP to wait, send them a separate email asking them to wait XX time until they pick for you.
In the future, I'll wait one hour for you and then DP. Ask your others to do the same.

Also, if you know you will be checking your computer every 15-30 minutes, make your queue "unavailable". That way your list is there, but you have more control over it. A bunch have these. It gives you more flexibility after you see who is drafting what ahead of you. A few managers have done this. If they go away, they make it "available"; if they are handy they pick themselves.
The "available" queue is for when you will be away for a long time or might miss your pick and want others to pick off the top of your list.
Hope this helps.

I sent POPS an email as well. There is an option to reset or not to reset the clock when we go to the 6 hour limit. I would like to choose no. Any thoughts?

Pops -- get a couple of picks ready as it will come back to you in 5 picks.
Don't go out to dinner until you do the second pick!! (Teehee!)
Slowhand will be picking at ~7 pm.

Pick made...Happy wth Holt, but feel like it was a bit of a reach for Cadillac;but what I'd be left with in 24 picks would be iffy for #2 RB.

FYI -- I am checking Kafenatid every 20 min or so for picks.
Since he gave us a good "heads up" I would like to allow JackHammer to come home and make his pick at 11 pm. I hope no one else objects.
Psychos, you can be ready right after that if you are around. I have a queue for Dror (assuming that it doesn't get emptied by prior picks!).
We are doing a great job on this! HOORAY!

We are going to wait for JackHammer to get home, especially since Psychos queue is empty. I want to be sure that JH gets the right guy as he had a long queue.
this will be ~ 11 pm.
Psychos you will be next up - either tonight or tomorrow am at 6. Dror's queue just emptied :(

One of JH's DP's picked for him.. Oh, well.
Remember to check the notes in the thread before DP'ing...
I am sure the pick is OK though!
Would you like a list of emails so you can send a private message to your DP's? They are posted on other threads, but I can send a list in an email so they are all in one place for you.

dror refilled his queue

SWEET -- I just tried it -- worked fine.
The flow is now transactions --> drop/add players --> find and add.
Thanks, slowhand, for figuring it out! Now everyone is responsible for loading their players into AOL.

I am off to bed -- will check at 5:20 am EDT and then again around 8:30 am and then from 11 am to the end, I'll be checking every 30-60 min.
If you have special instructions for your DP or for me, please post here. DP's check here before clicking...
Bottom pickers, please try and set up queues!
Remember that if you time out, you can enter your pick at any time.

No Wolfer, that was no problem. My instructions were to go ahead and make that pick if it was there. I only left a two man Q (Lewis and Cadillac) with 9 picks in front of me. I assumed my Q would be empty when it got back to me. I just didn't want to get skipped or leave a long Q.
But I do thank you all for even considering holding off until 11 for me. I have my 2 RB's now in under Manning (big exhale here) and am ready to move on

I sent an email to Psychos reminding him to pick soon and then set up queue for the upturn today. I also noticed that he has not posted on the new thread here.

Pacific Time Zone for me. I can never remember that Standard or Daylight thing. I pick your bottom over mine. Yes I said that. This bottom picker will not have a que for these 2 picks as I do not know my desired position to pick yet. Please remember to email me at work when it is my turn. See #60 for address and directions.

I agree. I can't set a que at this point. It cost me in hoops last year when I set a que and an unexpected run messed my team up. If we are in a big rush we should do live drafts. I will try not to delay anyone but these drafts are notoriously slow.

We are doing well so far in moving along. The "issue" comes when there is a long wait for a no pick (6 hours) when people are ready to pick. We probably could have added several more picks last night.
I did send an email to Psychos, but have not yet heard back.
Darn you Rob, I wanted Brees! The QB's are going awfully early this year...Hmmm.

Judy, #100 Did you use my government email in #60? I did not get it.
Maybe you can get GURU to delete some of the previous messages that are no longer useful to clean up this thread.
