Previous Thread

We should probably move the talk to this thread.

NBA's site doens't have our history up yet so we can't look at anyhitng. I've always captured all the data but with NBA they had it saved so well last year that I didn't bother. As far as activity goes, I seem to remember three managers who had less GPs than desirable. Pretty sure everyone was adequtely active though.

BJ21 has a new job and informed me that he wouldn't have enough time to be active for Hoops. So we're going to need a replacement for him.

Thus far the only proposal our for this year has to do with the game site we play on. As mentioned in the previous thread, G24 had voted to do away with the plaque. It is really difficult to get it engraved and send it to the next person in a timely manner. There is a site where we can send out a customized yearly trophy that you can keep. That would be a way to keep a tradition going with less hassle.

I think thats a great idea, a nice little trophy, sent 1 way and you keep it forever. Keeping things simple. Personally I loved those little bobbleheads we found for 5.99 at K2awards (and it came with free engraving).

As I recall, there were some post-season add/drops that will need to be reversed. I don't know if these rosters reflect those reversals or now.

Really need our constitution back. All of our draft picks and everything were there. Really frustrating. Need to email NBA and figure out what the deal is. Thanks Guru!

If anyone has a recommendation for someone taking over a team, send me a note.

I'd like to fill the open spot before running the lottery if possible--but not absolutely necessary.

Tosh and I have been discussing the site issue. We hope to have a recommendation to you soon. Maybe do a pros and cons of the sites. Not having our keeper info up is not helping matters as far as NBA goes.

Man, looking at my roster, I really like my team for the first time ever in this league. Going to have a hard time figuring out who my keepers are. It's no wonder I closed the gap so well. My keepers weren't very good last year, but my FA pickups were solid and mixed in a couple trades...I'd be ecstatic if I could keep my whole team.

Still no word from NBA. Growing more and more frustrated...

The last couple of years we've started the draft on a Sun afternoon. Last year keeps weren't due until that Sat. Need to look at NBA schedule etc., but that would translate to the draft starting on Oct. 19th this year. Keepers would like be due on the 17th or 18th.

Need to go through and see if there are any other managers who haven't checked in. Then we need to do our lottery draw. Our draft pick trades are in the constitution. NBA has not responded to my emails.

Tosh got a response from NBA. Thoguht it was funny that it is apparently being administered by rotohog.

Their response:

This appears to be a global issue (or at least affecting leagues with a constitution that is over a certain size), and we are working to correct. Thanks for your patience.

Well this doesn't go the the fact that none of our keeper settings or anything about our league is there at all except our rosters. Going through the manager list now. No one has said no yet, just not sure if all 20 have recommitted yet.

Guess the lottery would be up next. Really hard to trade when we can't remember who owns which draft picks!

Typically when we have a trade for draft picks we post it in here too. We alwyas did before we got our constitution up on our site (NBA. Yahoo doesn't have one). Need to probably go through the thrads to see what we can find. This is jsut horrible. Could be the last straw for NBA site.

Managers: There are three managers I've not heard from/posted in here since they've been invited...PD, bmd or Peter N.

Now I talked to bmd awhile back about the status of the plaque and I'm sure he'll be back. I'm more concerned with Pete. I talked to him 2 or 3 weeks ago and he's so incredibly busy with work. My guess is that he will be back as he's played in all of our leagues since inception. I know that he is swamped though.

I sent another msg to, well, uh, rotohog I guess, about keeper stuff. He got right back to me:

We still hope to get keeper data (draft pick trades, prior year's standings, salaries & contracts) available later this week. Thanks for your patience.
Jon

Thanks for your reply. Will the constitution be included as well?
---------
Sorry for missing that. We have migrated the constitutions, but are aware of an issue with some not appearing. We're working on that (it also affects one of my leagues).
Jon
--------

So it's lost somewhere apparently. This does not make me feel any better. None of our settings are right or anything. It wasn't this way last year. It's a complete mess. But on a side note the problems that GO, Tosh and I constantly complained to them last year about the sorts and 3s missing etc are fixed!!!

Here is a copy and paste of Guru's lottery explanation for Pacers Rule and as a refresher for the rest of us (taken and edited from past season G20 baseball which uses same numbers)

For those unfamiliar with the process, here is a brief recap.

1. The bottom 14 teams are each assigned selection probabilities for the lottery, defined as chances per 1000. The last place team has a 25% chance of being selected; the team 14th from the bottom has a 0.5% chance (5 per 1000). For the upcoming lottery, here are the selection probabilities (chances per 1000) assigned to each team:

Team Name Chances per 1000
14 7 slackjawed yokel 5
13 8 Frick 7
12 9 Guru 10
11 10 Mike D 13
10 11 Peter N. 18
9 12 Pistol Pete  24
8 13 Pacers Rule 32
7 14 coldwater coyotes 44
6 15 barilko6  59
5 16 Perm Dude 81
4 17 Species 109
3 18 Slizz 148
2 19 Tosh 200
1 20 rockafellerskank 250

2. The lottery is conducted as three sequential random "draws". The first draw will be for the top pick, then the 2nd pick, then the 3rd. All teams not selected for one of the top three picks will be assigned the 4-14 position reverse standings order.

3. The process for each draw is to simulate the random selection of four balls from a total of 14 balls, numbered from 1-14. There are 1001 such possible combinations that can be selected. One of these is predetermined to represent a "do over", and the other 1000 combinations are each pre-assigned to one of the 14 teams, in the proportions listed above.

There are 1000 rows. Columns B,C,D, and E list the four-ball combos. Columns F&G list the team that is assigned to each combo. Once a four ball combo is drawn, it is a simple matter to look up the team that is represented by that combo. For example, if the combo is 1-6-10-14 (in any order), then the team selected is Perm Dude. (2-7-9-12 is the "do over" combo.)

3. If the second or third draw results in a duplication, then it is tossed out and done again.

4. The program for selecting the 4 ball combinations is derived from the random.org website.

The version of the program that we use sends an email confirmation to several people, so the results can be audited and verified. I wrote the program, but Ref will run it and post the results here.

OK, managers are set and lottery is done.

Next order of business...

Proposed changes for this year. I don't have any rules or procedure issues sent to me or posted.

We do have two proposed admin changes:

1. Hosting Site. Unfortunately, we've been unable to make a recomendation. I also have not looked at ESPN yet to make any kind of recommendation. So thus far it's stay at NBA or move to Yahoo!. We are past frustrated with NBA, obviously.

There are Pros and Cons with Yahoo from a manager and commish standpoint. I don't want to get into them right now as it may turn out to be our only option. The important thing is that we can make it work if need be and I made a league there a couple weeks back to be ready.

2. Single Plaque Retirement -- Keeper Customizable Trophy Replacement

bmd was getting ready to engrave his name in the old plaque and asked me if he shouldn't just buy a larger plaque since it was the last space left. I asked him to price it for us but before he could get back to me I told him not to do anything yet. It has been a major hassle--esp. in this league with lost and unreturned plaques. The timely enraving and sent on has also been at issue. G24 has voted to retire that plaque and we will be going with the keeper customizeable trophy (probably bobblehead from where GO found). The price is like $5 or $6 plus like $10 or less drop shipping to the new winner. This is less than what we've paid before and with the money we have in the fund already (plus anyone who finishes top 6 who isn't in pool goes to that fund) we may have a surplus.

Please weigh in on the plaque proposal. If there is a choice/doubt about the site we will use we can discuss that later. Also, if you can think of any other changes/tweaks to current rules/procedures please post now.

Moving along...

Next order of business is Keeper and draft dates.

Last year we had keeper date of thurs 10/18 and the draft officially started on Sun 10/21. The Season began on 10/30.

Last year's draft had an 8:00 cumulative clock and only one person timed out. It was over by Friday afternoon 10/26. We did open it up for early drafting on Friday so that got us 14 picks off the board before it even opened for c clock.

That schedule has worked for us the last 2 or 3 years and I'm thinking we should stick to that. The days would be the same. The dates obviously are moved up two days with the leap year. We might even be able to move the keepers back to Friday if need be due to the slow start with the whole NBA site.

So tentatively:
Keepers would be due on either Thur 10/16 or Fri 10/17. Time TBA. Thread in this forum

Draft may open up Fri (or Sat) but the clock wouldn't start until Sun afternoon 10/19. Threads in Standings Forum.

The season doesn't start until Tues 10/28 so we have a little leeway. Though if we do go back to Yahoo! remember that it takes an extra day to get a player into your lineup. The other sites are immediate (except waivers).

I saw something where these experts were saying that there is no way those gymnasts were 14. Gave some proof. I remember one was the fact that they had baby teeth still. China said that they had documentation to prove it but NBC said they had documents before where the dates were chagned on two gymnasts that made them two years older than before.

RE G20

I am really worried that we will never see our Constitution again. Just hoping that maybe we can put together some of he traded draf tpicks to try and recapture the integrity of the league with the traded draft picks.

Yeah the other night I read that one of the 2000 Chinese Gymnasts admitted on a talk show of some type that she was 14 when she competed in 2000. She now refuses to answer questions about it saying 'I'm not a gymnast anymore' or some such. There were two gymnasts who had originally had birthdates listed on a national gymnastics website making them 14 at the time of their olypmic competition, but which had been changed in 2007 to make them both 16.

Species- I didn't mean to imply anything about your enjoyment of flexible Chinese women. ;-) The mere reference to Chinese gymnasts reminded me I never followed up on that inquiry. Naturally I called upon the collective Gurupie wisdom to enlighten me.

Brandon Roy
Hedo Turkoglu
Danny Granger
Dirk Nowitzki
Tyson Chandler
Charlie Villanueva
Jamaal Tinsley
Kirk Hinrich

Possible-Keepers depending on what happens in preseason:
Ramon Sessions
Shaquille O'Neal
Luis Scola

Likely Drops:
Andre Brown

The problem is that we are not sure who has what draft picks to even trade right now. Would be a mess if we make trades and then find out they didnt have those picks to even trade. What a mess.

Looking over my roster, I could use a 6th man to add to my keeper squad. Would have a preference to someone younger to help with my rebuild, and would be willing to part with any pick in the right package. I know I have the 2nd overall selection, and I think I picked up some extra picks through trades last year when I unloaded some older guys.

Yep, that's what I told Tosh when we saw it was rotohog doing it. My gut says we're going to have to go back to Yahoo!. They started archiving after we left, but the commish thing, the constitiution thing, Live Scoring not included, having to wait a day to put players in lineups (2 for trades). Also you can't control it once the season starts. If someone is inactive or bolts, you're stuck.

I know that others prefer it simply because they play in other leagues and it's easy for them as it's located all in one place and you're buying live scoring anyhow, but for others, it's $10 and some will go w/o it. A big part of my enjoyment is live scoring. Also last time I had Yahoo live scoring in two leagues it always froze up on me. But I digress. Love a site where our constitution can be housed and more than one commish can fix things if needed, but our choices are limited. Our last constitution was lost in migration and our leagues haven't even been migrated over yet.

Well rotohog is taking over from the former game operator and the data has to be migrated from that company to rotohog's servers. The Constitutions already migrated over but many are missing. The otehr Keeper stuff are supposed to be migrated by the end of this week. I'm not holding my breath.

I sent invites to Guru and Tosh at ESPN. I can give them commish (league manager) privs once tehy sign in. It appears that ESPN has everything NBA had except the Constitution. It does have a pretty long commish note that could serve as an abridged version perhaps. Also has a league buletin board.

Never understood the need for live scoring in a Rotiserie league. Even with my Stattracker, I never check the rotiserie leagues anyway, I only use it for my H2H leagues. Who really cares if they gained +0.5 in steals or rebounds on a given night?! And if you care that much, then its worth 9.99 to ya. Its not like I can't just look at my players' stats in normal boxscores and see how they are doing.

Yahoo has had bulletin boards, smack talk, commish notes for years.

The only negative I see is the adding players for next days games... but who makes that many moves that this really matters in hoops? Baseball maybe where you are picking starters up and what not. But its not all that imperative for Rotiserie hoops. And this is coming from the guy that made 124 add/drops in the Elimination Chamber last year.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the league would prefer Yahoo, are we gonna have a vote of some sort? Cause I would think we would do what the majority wants and work out the details off of that.

Nah he just msged me. He hasn't seen ESPN yet. He asked me some questions about ESPN and was surprised by my responses. Seriously, you guys need to see ESPN at least before forming an opinion.

The best thing so far is that blue hen knows the head of League Manager (LM). He has worked with me trying to make ESPN the home of G20 baseball and thus far has been able to implement everthing I've requested except for prospects/taxi squad. They love the idea of a Constitution and are going to imp that. Also bh says they like the exact time of a WW pickup instead of the 3 am and hope to have that in next year. That's not a big issue but after seeing it with NBA, I kinda liked it--though not a big deal.

Just a few things to consider: Freeze is actual game time for players; you can pick up a player that day and use him that day if it's before the first game of the day (likely will add before that player's game for next season); You can access everything via phone for free (real time standings may be only free from verizon not sure); The commishs have even more than NBA had; free live scoring; this has more bells and whistles than Yahoo for the player as well.

I could go more, but I'd like people to see for themselves. The history and records and full abilities. This looks like a different site than what I saw last year when I looked at it and I like it even better than CBS--and it's free. Just tak ea look and see what you think.

Mike D, I sent the invite to your home email.

Just to clarify some stuff Ref said...
- Everyone gets free live scoring on the web and on mobile. And standings are updated when stats come in rather than overnight. Those are the two reasons I used Stattracker.

- You can trade picks in the preseason. We aren't yet able to trade picks after the draft (i.e. next year); this may be added in time for Baseball 09.

- Freeze is at the time of the first game: you can pick up a player at 6:55 and start him for a 7:00 game.

- You can access your teams on your phone. See live scoring, updated standings, your current matchup (in H2H), etc.

- You can do start/bench and add/drop on Verizon phones.

Freeze is at the time of the first game: you can pick up a player at 6:55 and start him for a 7:00 game.

I assume this "freeze" only applies to free agent pickups. If one game starts at 7:00, but a later game starts at 10:00, I still have until 10:00 to start or bench a player in the later game, don't I? I just can't pick up a free agent at 9:55 and start him at 10:00 if there was an earlier game.

Or is it like CBS, where all roster slots freeze at the first game time?

Getting a new phone. Made a couple calls to ESPN and Verizon. Apparently the live stats for mobile phones is available only on certain phones as part of the VCAST package. According to both people I talked to from both companies, if your phone is not "ESPN MVP" enabled you cannot use the service. If it is so capable, you would need to be a Vcast subscriber ($15/month fee) to access the content. I'm not sure I want live phone standings that badly, though it probably is a strong consideration for Mike D in his ongoing quest for domination.

I would assume ESPN has the policy - as does Yahoo!! - that if your player has a scheduled game that night and is in your lineup but does not play - it does not count against your games limit. I looked it up on the FAQs but could not find it.

Many times people will have guys in their lineup when their team doesn't even play that night. Many times a guy will be a late scratch or can't go and is in that manager's lineup--but he has to get in the game for it to count as a game played.

If you can remember any other trades that were made or you were involved in, please post the details. (Serious posts only!)

Just wondering if not having access to what picks each team has affects the keeper deadline being in a few days.

ESPN interface looks pretty sharp and the site seems very responsive/quick loading, FWIW.

Yeah, as solid is Yahoo is for players, there is a reason our league switched after several years with Yahoo. Yahoo has done little to improve upon the reason we left it in the first place. None of us really liked NBA and their issues, but it had so much more than Yahoo and was better on several levels--though coming up short on others--esp to where we are now with them.

ESPN now has a myespn home page, the same thing Yahoo has. A one-stop shop for all of your teams. I am sold on it. In fact, if we can make it work for our other leagues, we need to do that as well. That is weird coming form me as I stopped using ESPN for a long time since it always crashed on me. I hated the site. It's been good in recent times though and the fact that they listen to their users (unlike CBS) and how they've made it so intuitive to use is key.

I'd be really surprised if some of your leagues using Yahoo weren't using ESPN by next season.

RE: 112 attn Pacers Rule

That's incorrect. You can get live stats on any web-capable phone on any service. Did you talk to ESPN or to Verizon to get that information?

You can make moves only on Verizon phones (starting with hoops this year - previously it was only MVP users on V CAST).

Blue Hen - that's great news, if I understand you right. Actually I spoke with both companies. I talked with Verizon twice and the second time I was inquiring about their "mobile TV" packages and they told me that ESPN MVP is only available in their Premium package which was $25 a month. I asked if at some point the ESPN MVP service would be available for use on a 'per megabyte' fee structure (which I currently used as opposed to paying $15 for VCAST and unlimited internet) and they told me 'probably not' because it was a premium service that they saw as continuing to be bundled with their higher end packages. I had asked earlier if the live fantasy stats feeds from ESPN were possible with any web-enabled phone or if it required ESPN MVP and the person I spoke with said it had to be an ESPN MVP enabled phone - and that this capability was bundled within the VCAST package on some phones. Was this person wrong?

And I wonder, when you say live stats, do you mean just plain old game box scores, or do you mean live standings in an ESPN fantasy league....like you can get on the web with Yahoo Stat-Tracker? I wish there was a place you could call to talk to someone at one company or the other where they could give you a straight answer on this stuff. I hate misinformation - esp. when I'm trying to choose a phone to buy based on that misinformation. Please explain if you know something different and esp. if there's a person I can talk to at one company or the other who can help guide me on buying a phone - and how much it will cost me to use/access this feature - if we do end up going with ESPN for this league.

Yes, you can get your team's boxscore, head-to-head matchup, and league standings live (like StatTracker) on any web-enabled phone. In the fantasy section, the only value-add for ESPN MVP is roster moves (start/bench, add/drop, with the exact same rules as online).

I do recommend that you give ESPN MVP a look. You can do this with a five-use trial on any V CAST capable phone or just go into a Verizon store and ask them to show you; it'll be pre-loaded on most demo phones in the store. ESPN MVP is like the Mobile Web on steroids: scoreboards that connect directly to the stadium scoreboard (usually faster than TV), integrated contextual video, and more intricate gamecast experiences. For NBA, you can get a full shot chart by team or by player and a score graph showing the game's progress.

I'll admit that I'm a little biased, but if you're a sports fan, I would think it's worth a trip into your local Verizon store to check out.

Well, that's a much better report than any of the people who were paid to give those answers could give :-) I probably just need to look for the phone with the largest display so I can read the tiny little stat lines. Strangely, all the Verizon phones that were available online that were ESPN MVP compatible had the smallish screens.

I thought I saw a new phone with actual HTML page loads. It had a larger screen but of course was a little saltier. I imagine any brand/network phone with HTML could use the live stats on the regular site.

GO - Whats your service provider?

They have the new BlackBerry Storm coming out for Verizon Wireless and I am holding off until than. It will/should have all the capabilities of the iPhone, but with the BlackBerry technology which I like.

As for setting lineups, I can set it on Yahoo, but it is quite inefficient. I only use it as a last minute option if I have a "handcuff" who may start b/c of an injury. I have not tried ESPN yet.

Pacers Rule, the MVP uses smaller fonts than a typical phone browser, so the small screen experience is still good. I use an LG 8300, which has a 176 wide screen (compared on an EnV, which is 320). And I have no complaints. Your best bet is to see it at the store.

I have Sprint - my window to make a switch is the month of November... so gotta really start researching. We get T-Mobile and Verizon discounts, so those are under consideration. Considering T-Mobile Google phone. As far as the browser portion goes, I want the one I can best do add/drops, lineup moves with.

Storm has no Wi-Fi which is curious.
The G1 Google phone does, and if I get T-Mobile I can get that data port for regular calls through my router as well (ala Vonage) for only 10 more per month.
I could drop my Cablevision phone line then as well and save some money on that side

I emailed CS again last night. I told them that he promised to at least have our keeper stuff back in (he was still huting for Const though since it was already migrated but several were still missing theirs). Most (if not all) of our trades in-season went through as draft pick trades successfully. So that is another way we can recover our picks. He hasn't responded yet.

My initial thought is to go with whatever we have from the threads that I posted earlier, plus any draft pick trade we could remember. Then if we found more or there is a discrepency later, the commishs would decide what to do in the best interest of the league. We might be able to fix them this year or if that's too late push it to next year. We really need those though because those trades don't happen w/o those picks. No one has posted or sent me any other traded picks, but I know there were more. At least one I was involved in with slizz where we actually swapped back our previous traded picks when I sent him Farmar.

I think today or tomorrow might be as long as we can go before saying, here is what we have for now, let's start our pre-keeper trading period and see if we need to alter the keper and/or draft dates because of this snag.

Would also like more people to actually look at ESPN and give us some feedback. It looks like only a half-dozen have actually logged onto the site. I only sent like 9 or 10 invites though. I'd like to make a definite determination on which site we use.

I still prefer one platform (Yahoo) to other games I play. It's simpler and easier, including logging into one site, position eligibility, rules of the site, etc..

That being said, I think ESPN is a fine second choice. I've used their site for years but stayed away from leagues because they used to cost money.

I'm willing to give ESPN a shot - in spite of several bad experiences with their platform in prior years. I'm presuming that most of the issues - which seemed to be mostly related to insufficient capacity to handle volume (during drafts, or peak activity times on Sundays for football) - have been resolved.

If we go to ESPN and it works out well, I would even consider migrating the RIHC there for the following year.

While Yahoo is a safe and known commodity, if there are features at ESPN that are useful for many (free live scoring, same day lineups for adds, cell access) and features that are useful for the commish (e.g., multiple commishes) - then if the Commish believes that ESPN offers a better alternative, I'm willing to support him.

It could be helpful to have a direct pipeline to the staff at ESPN as well. One occasional aggravation I've had with Yahoo is the inability to get anyone there to respond correctly to a question (or more accurately, to respond to the actual question asked).

NBA now has some alerts on their front page including:

Offline Drafts: Commissioners of private leagues will be able to begin entering offline draft results and Keepers beginning Tuesday evening.

No response to my latest email but they are also turing on live draft starting tonight, so perhaps they hae a plan to migrate what data they do have to the site. I think tomorrow night though might be as late as we can possibly wait. I'd like to get an email returned with more info as I wanted to have all the info I had now and open up draft pick trades asap. Still may depending on what, if anything happens tonight. I'll post here and send out a league email if we go that route.

I was going to go through every team from their draft rosters to their final rosters and see if I could figure out any more trades that might have involved draft picks--but it's just too much work. I've went through everything and have three traded picks (slizz and mine was taken off). I had thought there were like 5 trades or so. I was even thinking that I had made another trade, but I just can't remember. Slizz assures me we only made two deals.

So the only way we are going to remember is if NBA gets either our Const. or keeper info back and at this point we can't wait for them any longer. Those picks WILL NOT be lost if we find out later there are more--even if they have to go in for next season. But all attempts will be made to make them good for this year as originally agreed upon. To be honest, I have little faith in NBA or rotohog to get this resolved at this point so we need to get going. I will post the draft chart as we know it and then send an email out to everyone so we can start trading draft picks again.

Good question, rfs. Guess we need some feedback.

First, I haven't found anything that would suggest that ESPN won't work for us. No one else has yet to find anything either. Though there are a few who still would rather go with Yahoo for one more year, ESPN works best for our league. I'm hopeful it's the last site we will ever need and it has a host of short and long-term features there that benefit our league and still striving to improve. The fact that ESPN is taking ownership instead of farming it out like NBA did is big. The pipeline to the head of the games--WHO LISTENS and has replied directly to me on the baseball site--is big. This is the first year ESPN would work for our league and I wouldn't want to go to it if I thought we'd be getting anything like we've experienced the last two seaosns in NBA.

rfs and Mike D are the only two not signed into our ESPN league. Mike D, do I need to send a

Second, Since we had a hold on trades involving draft picks until yesterday, I am open to moving the Keeper/draft dates back. Obviously, tomorrow is too soon. We're not going to have a vote, just hit me with some thoughts so I can make a decision. If we stay on schedule, the draft will start Sunday afternoon. Keepers would be due at least a day before that.

Having the draft start on Sun afternoon means that we would be unlikely to have to draft on Fri evening or Saturday. Pushing the draft back a day means we'd probably extend through Saturday. Remember, we'd need to imput keepers into ESPN and many of you want to then see those keepers and who is available to research before their draft. With a short per pick clock (3 Hrs) and a cumulative clock of like 8 hrs (will double check) it's important to have an idea where you're going so you can pick or league a queue when you're up.

With the ESPN rules, we have an extra day to get our draft in because you can use the FA/WW pickups on teh day you acquire them. So the latest possible date to start the league and allow at least one WW run is Sunday. So conceivably our draft could finish on Sunday and we could get it up that night.

Also rememebr that we get through several picks before the clock has started previously, but we also know that the first round picks are typically easier for our leagues and are made quickly.

My recommendation is that we either keep the draft on Sunday afternoon or start it no later than Monday. Keepers will be due the day before. We need to decide today and then I'll launch the keeper thread.

I have talked to Guru about finances and we've got enough in our trophy fund that there will be no charges this year for the trophy. The only costs will be for the prize pool which is still $15. (PD does not participate).

Also, I do have a Constitution (which hasn't been updated in two years) on our G20/24 Web Site. I'll work on that to get it back to where it needs to be soon. That's also where our detailed rules will have to go again for now, but ESPN has some things that may allow a modified version of it.

In addition to PD, Mike D and Pistol Pete also do not participate in the prize pool. I'll be sending out payment instructions shortly (via email).

Pacers Rule - you will need to decide whether you want to join the pool or not. $15/year. Top six teams get prizes, ranging from $90-100 for the winner to $15 for 6th place. The only caveat is that you must decide now whether you are permanently in or permanently out. If you do not join the pool this year, you cannot join in a future year.

I just sent out the dues notice via the league email facility at ESPN. If you do not receive it, let me know and I'll send one to you directly.

Nine members have ample amounts on account from previous years (or baseball) to cover the dues. Three members do not participate in the pool. So, in addition to me, only 7 people need to send in prize pool dues this year (or 6, if PR opts out.)

2 things I've been batting around in my head that I think would be nice fits for the G20 leagues... I'll throw them out there and we can fine tune a proposal if there is any other support.

Proposal 1. The RIBC style leagues have inspired me some and I like the sound of a proposal where if you finish bottom 5 (or 3?) three full consecutive years -- that you are up for review.
And/or have a league vote on... is this manager improving the squad? attentive, contributing etc etc. Then perhaps you have a few definititve managers on the waiting list for comparisons sake.

Its kind of like Euro soccer leagues where you finish at the bottom, you get dropped to a lower division (tier?) whatever its called.
You wouldn't neccessarily have to get booted like those scenarios, but teams should always be looked at each year that are constantly struggling. And honestly, this includes me, cause I've finished bottom 5 two years in row in baseball we just wrapped up...

Proposal #2
Last place "penalty"
Have we ever considered a last place penalty in these $ leagues?
I've used this to great success in other leagues I commish. Its usually 10-20 bucks penalty to finish in last.
What it does is keep everybody active til the end (picture the bottom 3 teams duking it out last week for those couple extra points).
It makes sure the integrity of the league is upheld top to bottom and that the bottom 5 or so haven't just mailed it in.

One league I made it the amount of the Kafenatid draft (so last place simply pays for next years draft)...
I could even see just making the penalty the amount of that bobblehead trophy that 1st place will recieve (or whatever we decide).
I guess this would only be for teams in the prize pool though? on the "fine tune" checklist I guess...

162: rfs, make sure you enter OUR LEAGUE. Apparently it is at the bottom. It' only sends invites out to those who aren't in our league. Still shows you and Mike D as the two who aren't in.

161: Baseball is customizable. I thought NBA was too. I thought it was 5/10. BH is checking on it for us. When looking at the site, I took a few players who had dual positional elig. and compared them to NBA and they were the same.

Speaking of NBA, I just got this response from my email I sent several days ago about the keeper stuff:

Thank you for your email. We are in the process of getting all of this information back onto the site. We appreciate your patience and we apologize for the delay.

Having no prior experience with this type of draft - are any past years' drafts posted anywhere so I can begin to formulate a game plan?

I'm leaning toward opting out of the fee/prize structure...but I'll mull it over some more since that requires an actual decision on my part.

With no input, I'll make the executive decision on keepers.

Keepers due by 1:00 pm ET on Saturday Oct. 18th.

Draft clock will start at 1:00 on Sunday Oct. 19th.

I am not sure when I'll be able to get to entering the keepers on Sat or readying the site to start the season. Am going to see what we need to do as far as entering keeps and starting waivers etc.

Keeper Thread is up.

Trying to figure out the draft situation on ESPN. Looks like for offline drafts they have a system set up where we can enter those results but we must fill the entire lineup. Also see where we can edit waivers, but not start waivers manually. My guess is they would start once we entered offline results. But we don't want to do that because we want to show FAs (draft eligible players) while we draft. Not sure if a commish or each manager would need to add players. The question has been sent to ESPN via BH. My guess is that it won't matter but then undrafted players may not be automatically on waivers like we're used to. Hope that's not the case but it won't kill us either.

Thanks to all who got back to me about potentially moving up.

I have 5 solid keepers and a bunch of fringe guys (i.e. the Jordan Farmar(s) of the world). If anybody has some quality guys who they cant afford to keep and would like to make a deal to move up in the draft, give me a shout!

Getting some answers from ESPN...

*position eligibility is "by ESPN discretion"

*You can't add players during the draft. Still trying to figure out the best way to do things. They will have a slow-draft on ESPN next season.

I am looking to move my very high 3rd round pick for a 6th keeper. Send me the list of guys you would part with for the 6th pick in the 3rd round.

I could be tempted to move the 16th pick in the 2nd round for a good keeper, or the 6th pick in the 2nd round for a very nice keeper, but most likely will be holding onto the higher second round pick.

Send me your available guys!

The likely 3rd pick isn't bad either B6. His role is more nebulous though.

I'm a little surprised I haven't moved ANY of my guys but I guess people are testing the waters for value right now as the actual offers have been mcuh lower than anticipated. Other players have drawn interest but no offers.

I actually have a dynamic 3 in mind, someone who is flying under the radar. I think I might have been able to trade down a bit more and still get him, but I wanted to make sure.

If I had stayed at the 2 spot, I probably would have still selected him, so I was just trying to get anything that would give me some sort of an upgrade.

The real question for me I guess, is could I have coaxed a little more out of RSF? I don't think he would have given me his 2nd for my 3rd. I could be wrong there. But when it comes down to upgrading 3rd, or 5th round picks 5 spots, I didn't think it was that much of a missed value when talking about picks that late.

I just figured out it was PD lol. I didn't notice that Slizz had his post deleted and was trying to figure out who else was missing. Please post quickly PD as it's about an hour past the deadline.

I haven't gotten an answer back about starting WW. My guess is that it can only happen if we put all 12 in at once. Even thought about using Kafenatid, but I think how I want to try to do it is manullay add one player a time to all the teams. Not use their offlien draft tool at all. Then allow us to pick up players as normal. Then once we make sure everything is good to go, set a time when the players will be open to pick up. We will still use the WW, but it would be fro dropped players if we can't start it manually. Have already been assuerd their slow draft will be ready to go by next season. They also have a keeper setting but only on certain time sthus far so it doesn't help us. I'll play around with things this afternoon as I'm trying to get this thing ready.

Re: 206

It doesn't matter what time the Keepers are due, there are ALWAYS last minute deals. I'm shocked there weren't higher picks being traded.

If Charlei V didn't look so good last night I might have switched back to Hinrich after his 7 dimes from the 2 last night. But in the end, I just think that CV will shine more than Hinrich. Now if Rose goes down or Kirk gets moved or CV doesn't produce, it could be a big mistake. I just wanted the dimes from Kirk and I don't think it will get many on a regular basis. 3s and scoring should go way up though.

I tell you what, Ref, when the Bulls played the Pacers at the Ft. Wayne Colliseum, There was a clear difference between Hinrich and Rose, in favor (way in favor) of Hinrich. He played with confidence and the whole team seemed to run much more efficiently. Rose is more athletic but just didn't have the leadership or knowledge to run the team yet. It will be interesting to see how the process goes in Chicago and I'm sure they will give Rose time so he can develop, but he's just not ready yet. Maybe later in the season he could come on and maybe even challenge for the starting job, but he has a ways to go and Hinrick is ready to go now.

I agree. I only saw Rose play or a little bit but wsan't impressed. There are some othe rookies, albeit this is preseason, who have really surprised me with their play. I mean I am shocked by it. But I think Rose is the real deal and will be very very good soon. Just not sure the definitition of soon with him. I do konw that the Bulls will throw him into the fire though and say here ya go!

Guru was kind enough to edit the Keeper thread for us. I have had feedback from a few who look back on it throughout the draft/season to see who had/dropped players as well as keepers for future years.

Well ESPN made me enter an offline draft. I added the keepers and compelted it. It was allowed. Now all plaeyrs are on waivers through until Monday. i would rather not have to go through every team and do this again after the draft to get waivers turned on again, but that is one way to do it. For draft picks made before Monday a commish can also add them manually.

So as of now I think this is how our draft will have to go.

1. Make picks in our draft thread and really check hard to make sure your player hasn't already been selected.

2.Go to ESPN and pick him up starting on Monday (commish will get around to picking them up before that).

If we decide that waivers need to be turned on, we may need every team to post their entire rosters to make it easier. I also might recruit a a few guys to help me input all 12 players into offline draft thread (Erases all previous activity). The latter is probably the best way to do it--albeit more work. This will help managers drafting by knowing what player is available and confirm their position.

OK. Researching more and waivers is not cutomizeable so what I stated before is correct at this point. Everything else looks good. You can search FAs now to help you draft and you can see who has been taken by going to rosters (or draft recap for Keepers).

I'm going to get this draft open today so we can get a few untimed picks off the board. I figure that most of the top picks already have an idea who you're taking anyhow and the rest of us can research while those picks are coming off.
