Draft Discussion
Preseason Discussion
Keeper Declarations
ESPN League Site
Our draft has concluded. As a reminder, no pickups will be allowed until Noon ET on Sunday. If you have a WW pick, EMAIL me BY 11:00 ET on Sunday morning.
WW order is set. I will manually change it if I have any WW to run before the draft opens.
Also, some like to evaluate or talk about the draft or their picks. Feel free to do so in this thread.
Thanks again for a great draft and best of luck to everyone. We're underway! |

I don't get why Udrih was such a shocking pick, he's A LOT better option than all those other rookies picked after the first few... just ask the Brandan Wright and Acie Law owners from last year. Udrih has proven to be a good player with very good %'s and his counting stats will only improve with Bibby gone the full season. I think it was one of the better picks of the first round.

Not much going on so I'll pose a few Q's for discussion:
1. Who had the best overall supplemental draft?
2. What was the single best "value" pick in the SD?
3. What first rounder is most likely to hit the WW by the ASB?
4. What player will contribute the most of the round 6 players?
5. Whose team will be the "most improved" this year (IE move from 15th to 3rd.. or whatever)?
My answers:
1. Other than my own draft, I like what Species did. 2. 2.04 Russell Westbrook -- I'd have gladly taken him at 2.06. 3. Tough call here, but I'll say J.R. Smith 4. 6.19 Marcus Banks 5. Species. Good draft plus returning healthy roster.
Any other draft comments out there?

Any trades for draft picks need to also be posted in our thread so the league can consider then when allowing it or not. I have no info on draft picks for this latest trade but based on what I know, there has to be some form of draft pick trade as that was teh trade at the end of the draft.

1. Me...thats easy...but I also like a lot of bmd, KnicksFans and GO's picks. 2. Me again...Spencer Hawes...well, atleast for the first 5 games. 3. Gonna be Moon, Ridnour or Sean Williams, if it happens. 4. Bassy or Green. 5. Not me...I'm gonna "Pull a Twarpy".
My Fav Picks by Round: 1. Brewer at 1.14. Gonna lead league in steals. 2. Gooden at 2.01. Lotso nice talent in the round. 3. Tony Allen at 3.08. 4. Goran Dragic at 4.18. Should be interesting to watch. 5. Shaun Livingston at 5.18. A steal later in season. 6. Gerald Green at 6.15. Looking pretty dynamic in preseason. Might be a nice fit in a running Dallas scheme...but this isn't Nellie ball anymore.

Needing to 'fix' the trade between GO and PR at the end of the draft. It was based on a misunderstanding. The original trade was as I originally posted it, not with the 2009 picks reversed. Basically we've been working together with Ref's oversight to try to get this rectified, and on my suggestion/request GO picked up Mo Pete today for that purpose- to trade him to me for Goran Dragic and to switch the picks back to their original 2009 holders. Unfortunately he was not able to drop Banks to do it (whom he took with my 6.19) so he dropped Livingston instead. I suppose a final correction/rememdy could be for him to drop Banks and pick up Livingston again when he's able if that is what folks feel is necessary. I don't really care. I just don't want anyone to get hurt on this if at all possible - and also to get it behind us and move forward. It was a simple mistake anyone of us could have made if in too big of a hurry.

wtf?!?!
You can't drop a player involved in a trade. You made this trade but didn't send me or post anythign about swapping draf tpicks--which I have emailed. Therefore the league is voting on the deal as is--WITHOUT PICKS. Now players are dropped to fix things? Just post the draft pick trades as you had talked about. You can't make a trade then discuss the picks later.
In a nutshell, in the draft PR offerd a trade to GO, he accepted it and confirmed. Then later he said, wait the picks should be the other way around. PR says no way, I would have never made it. So they asked me about it. They originally wanted me to undo it and allow him to redraft someone after the draft was over. i said can't do it. So then they wanted to trade the guys back maybe a little lwoer pick the followingy ear for the misudnerstanding. Hell at this point, a complete reversal is fine since it wasn't collusion and a complete misunderstanding.
Bit now everything is screwed up. They mad ea deal w/o picks at all and it went through on ESPN. Then no picks went with it. None posted even. Now GO is dropping players trying to make it right sicne he can't drop the guy involved in the trade. You guys are making an easy process difficult! ;) Just post the freaking picks and confirm it!

Plain and simple: No picks swapped in 2009 - or swapped back from what was swapped in the draft day trade if you want to say that original trade stands- I want Mo Pete, he doesn't get to keep Banks. Can't get any simpler than that. How should we go about getting it done?
Sorry for the complication. I guess we didn't think about the pending trade when we thought we had solved the problem by him picking up Mo Pete to swap back for that *(&(& Phoenix PG whose name I can never remember. I did not anticipate GO complicating things by dropping Livingston instead of Banks. So I guess everyone needs to go onto the site and veto the pending trade between myself and GO, so we can propose the trade we really want to fix things? And I'm not sure what folks want to do about Livingston and Banks. I think probably everyone just needs to leave Livingston alone until he clears Waivers, and then GO will need to drop Banks and pick Livingston back up.
Maybe nobody cares b/c these are such loser players anyway, LOL. Still, it's a pain in the backside and I'd just as soon have GO read his trade offers more carefully in the future ;-)

PR and GO have both asked me to veto the trade and ESPN has an LM review as well as a league review which allows me to do so (I just found out). So I have vetoed it. Hope this helps matters! ;)
If you make another trade, you ened to include the draft picks reversed of what you already have. Hopefully that will solve things for you guys.

Ok, I think we may have figured this out. I proposed to GO that we complete the following trade: PR gets: Mo Pete My own 2009 fifth round pick which I had previously traded to GO in the first ill fated Goran Dragic trade
GO gets: Goran Dragic His own 2009 third round pick back...see above.
After this deal goes through, we should be completely squared away - assuming of course that GO is ok with the fact that in this process he's effectively dropped Livingston and picked up Banks. I should have learned by now not to assume.....

I love that all my picks are showing up in the the reviews... GO acquires GO's 3rd Round pick from PR and Goran Dragic PR acquires PR's 5th Round pick from GO and Morris Peterson I agreed to a trade because I thought I was gaining value next year of two rounds for trading a 4th round guy (see post 5) into the last pick of the draft this season. I emailed an offer over with that layout... for whatever reason, the counter offer came back with the opposite. So the offer was him moving up this season AND moving up next season. So obviously I didn't want that cause why would I give up two rounds next season to move into the last pick of the draft, when I could just add any of those players for free? Sorry for the confusion Ref.

11: See how easy that was? ;)
1: Only 9 people have voted on the site. I was surprised by all three picks, but I voted the biggest surprise was the JR Smith pick. Now we know when he gets time he can have some games where he just kills the 3. He can get you maybe 7 in a game. Then he goes 3 or 4 games doing nothing. As long as he's in Karl's doghouse, he's not going to get a lot of run--barring injuries.
I think the surprises are becase there are so many quality rooks for teams to build around at that point. Time will tell how good any of our picks were. Just because they look good or bad on paper doesn't mean they will once the season starts. I enjoy when people go "off the charts" and go with their gut--esp. when it works out. Those "educated reaches" can make you look like a genius...or a fool! ;) We all know how Peter's Boston pick worked out last year (or lack thereof) maybe it's time for redemption this time!
2: I haven't really went through the whole draft yet, but I'd like to put in my two cents so I'll start looking at that stuff soon. I enjoy reading other's comments.

1. Who had the best overall supplemental draft? I think with his lack of high picks RSF had the best value picks. Species 1-2 combo is pretty sick. 2. What was the single best "value" pick in the SD? Westbrook at 2.04 could be a steal. Hawes in round 4 is looking pretty good. I think Darko and his blocks could be a steal at 3.20. Speights at 4.20 is a rookie that is very intriguing. Eddie House at 6.03 should be solid if Boston finally gives him more minutes. Was shocked that Gibson was still around at 5.20. Redick could be sleeper if he can put stats besides points and 3ptms. 3. What first rounder is most likely to hit the WW by the ASB? Bayless could be in trouble. Portland has a lot of young talent and he could get buried. After that probably Beno, Ridnour, Smith, or Bell. 4. What player will contribute the most of the round 6 players? From a fantasy perspective I think Eddie House has some upside. He puts up huge 3ptm stats and isn't too terrible in most of the other categories. He'll be a really good spot starter and I think you can't ask for much more from a 6th rounder.

My general draft strategy was NOT to select a rookie in the 1st few rounds. One thing I've learned the past few drafts is 1st year players rarely contribute meaningful stats. The large majority that do are top 10 draft picks and wouldn't be around for my 1st pick. That said, if I had to redo my pick I'd almost surely pick a handful of rookies of Raja Bell. I selected Bell because I desperately needed 3ptm. The WW never has guys that are 1 category monsters. However, there were a ton of 3 point specialists available later in the. I got Gibson at 5.20 and he might turn out a better fantasy player than Bell.

16: Several have commented on that and I can see why. But here is the setting in the LM:
GAME START LIMIT RULES (Limits) Limit Games Played to 90 per slot
I should probably send a note to bh to double check this though as the limit looks funny when you see the 720. But 720 is a number the game generated on its own.

Just found it. Last year. Guru's new hide the 1st 100 posts blocked it out. Makes me sad that we passed that one. 8 out of the 18 managers that voted didn't want it. Our bench is already fairly shallow and now there's almost no reason to bench a mediocre player since injuries will almost surely handcuff teams that do this early in the season.

With firefox it won't let me click any of the links, and when using AOL its 40/40/20. 40% of the time I click a link it freezes me up and I need to reboot AOL, 40% of the time when I click a link it takes me back to the ESPN homepage, and 20% of the time it actually works.
Is this an isolated problem for me?

New Toy!
As some of you know, I produce a program that tracks and calculates RIHC standings using stats over a range of dates, or using per-game averages. This year, I refitted that program to work with G20 standings as well.
Here is the link: http://rotoguru1.com/hoop/G20.html
To manipulate the stats (over a date range or per game), click on the "split standings by date" link.
I did some preliminary testing, and it seem to be working. Let me know if you see something that looks incorrect.
Note 1: If there are any stat changes related to prior dates, they will be reflected in the stats on the date that the change is processed. For example, one of my players had a stat correction for Wednesday included in this morning's standings. So if I run the split stats for Friday only, they will include not only the actual stats produced on Friday, but also the Wednesday adjustment.
Note 2: the "one week ago" link won't work until the season is a week old.

Have we confirmed that the GP limits are only applied in aggregate this year, and not by position? If so, there's no reason to worry about keeping individual position GPs in balance.

I ask, because on the league settings page, it says "Limit All Players to 720 games played -- 90 average games per slot". And nowhere do I see GP per slot monitored - so I'm assuming that these are only tracked and limited in aggregate.

[40] That rocks.
[41] In the settings you can only put in how many gmaes PER active player slot. I put in 90. The game shows it as 720, an aggregate of all 8 active slots. I asked bh about it. Need to check with him again, but even though it shows 720, it should be 90 per slot since that is how it was put in, not as an aggregate.

[41] & [48] - I'll bet it is an aggregate limit. Even though you put it in as 90 per slot, I'll bet they just use that as the basis to calculate the aggregate amount.
The fact that it now says "90 average games per slot" seems to confirm that. Also, the fact that there seems to be no GP tracking by slot.
Question: do we really care? With 3 utility slots out of 8 active slots, it's not as though a "per slot" or "per position" limitation really imposes a tighter limitation. It just requires that we pay attention to the slot/position totals in order to optimize the limits. Therefore, I think that an aggregate limit might actually be preferable.
Second question: I wonder how limits are applied on the day that the max is reached? For example, if the limit is 720 total GP, and a team has 729 going into the final day with 8 players active, would all 8 be counted? If not, which would be included, and which discarded?

Obviously youmeant 719 going into the final day. Every game I've ever played has always counted all games that day, but you just never know for sure until it happens. Another question for bh. ;)

This Mobley thing is killing me. Ridnour's "scraped knee" is hurting badly too. Perkins roller coaster ride hasn't been all that fun. McD and Carter had to go. I was pretty happy with my lineup at the start of the season but NBA trades has really hurt me.

My whole team is on the block. Its really frustrating that season after season I end up with a myriad of injuries. Parker with his ankle sprain followed by Maggette going down followed by Bogut & Pietrus going down. Not to mention my 1st two draft picks doing crap (bayless & williams). How bad are the Knicks? Mobley gets traded, they find that his heart condition means he will never play for them and they still agree to the deal.
Unfortunately for my team, Mobley was really starting to produce--esp in points and steals. Apparently Mobley will retire as soon as today.

Just looked at my team and noticed that all of my key players have come via draft or FA. Only Chandler and Charlie V have come via trade and neither are helping me right now. Charlie V shows glimmers and who knows what's up with Chandler? Nabbing Granger off the FA wire when he was a rookie and not getting any PT sure paid off!

rockafellerskank...I'd accept that trade you offered if it is the exact players in the proposal...go take a second look at which Derek (or in this case Derrick) you included...but otherwise, I'll wait on CDR, whom I overvalue dispite not playing squat this year so far.
We can revisit this later (maybe early January).

I've put in a trade protest, due to this article:
Clips Marcus Camby not asking for trade
I mean, in his own words: "I'm here for the long haul"
Of course, I think he's on crack when he said this about Species team: "(with our core of players) we should make the playoffs."
I mean, come on. Its Species, his squad is so hurt, he's pretty much the LA Clippers of the G20.
Funny, looking at his roster I just noticed his team is titled "Species' Inured Reserve"...Inured?

Based on the actual NBA schedule, the midpoint of the season occurs on Tues, Jan 20.
Through Saturday, Jan. 17, being exactly on pace toward 720 games equates to 350 GP.
As of that date, here's the league breakdown: 370 GP or more: 1 team 360-369: 2 teams 350-359: 3 340-349: 6 330-339: 2 320-329: 2 310-319: 1 300-309: 1 under 300: 2

Report:Camby to be out for extended period? Marcus Camby (ankle) could be out for an "extended period" according to a report by Lisa Dillman of the L.A. Times, citing "those that are familiar to this type of injury."
This still isn't an official report from the Clippers, but it's becoming more clear that Camby is worse off than his day-to-day listing. At this point, starting Camby for the upcoming week is a major risk. Jan. 18 - 9:10 pm et

re: 111/114
When i rejoined the league the year before last, there was debate about Twarpy's team being available and then (IIRC) he promised to be active and said "sorry" and kept his team.
Vaguely, I recall Twarpy being called out over the years for being inactive in G24 football and G20 baseball too, no?
I' not trying to bang here, but he is -100 pace as of today and left CA in his line up when he was clearly OUT. I have no desire to chase player logs, but it doesn't appear he is "active" IMO. When was the last time he played Kyle, Wally, Jason , or Will? I went back to 12/1 and there have been ZERO line up changes for a guy -100 games in pace.
C'mon, Twarpy, play the game or resign.
(sorry if this pst sounds like I'm being a jerk, but I am trying to improve, changing line us, offering trades and making moves) It's dissaponting to watch him sleep.

Nice move barilko. I had entertained thoughts of trying to buy low on McGrady as well.
Of course, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that McGrady will go the way of Penny Hardaway and never see usefulness in fantasy leagues again......but still your deal is a worthwhile gambit on top of the pick upgrades.

I've had McGrady since my entrance in this league. I've been trying to figure out if/how/when to move on. Obviously, if he could get healthy, he's got value. But that's the continual rub.
At this point, I'm figuring that Gordon will supplant McGrady as a keeper next year. Four years younger than McGrady, and a free agent at the end of this season, so who knows what he will do next year. I don't know what to expect from Hinrich, but figured that the combo of Hinrich and Gordon could allow me to make a move into the upper echelon this season. I'm amazed that I'm still in the running with Boozer and TMac already missing so many games.
So, from my perspective, the trade may get me into a money position this year - especially if I can get something reasonable from Boozer in the 2nd half.
If not, I feel OK going into next season with AL Jeff, Boozer, Iggy, J. Nelson, Gordon, and probably Jeff Green as my keepers, with Hinrich as a possibility (or else as possible trade bait).
Admittedly, my draft picks next year are back ended - but my 2nd and 3rd round picks this year were essentially wasted (McCants and Dampier), while my later picks have turned out to have some value (Landry, Lowry, and Telfair - IIRC). So maybe I'm better served by selecting from the deeper leftovers.

I think the trades have been really good except Frick's side of the B6 deal. By B6 turning right around and getting another 1st for Gordon, I think that supports my thinking. It's so had to tell though because what if Barg returns to what he was doing a couple years ago or what he's doing now? I'm not a big Gooden fan, but there is no denying he can board. I think Bargnani is the wild card in that deal.

I might have paid a fairly high price in the trade, but I'm less than enamored with Baron. He had a great year last year, but now that he has his big contract, he's back to missing long periods of time again. Gordon is a very streaky player, his situation is uncertain for next year. I've struggled in rebounds the last couple of years.
I think Barg will continue to improve, but if he regresses, this trade will be very bad for me.

Yeah, I am really hoping that McGrady can re-establish himself as a somewhat top tier talent. Getting him back was key in my deal with Guru.
Gordon was hard for me to part with, primarily for the reason that Guru alluded to in his post---the fact that he is a free agent, and could most likely finally become the centre piece of a team's offense.
Getting McGrady and Baron are short holds for me, take a chance and see if they can get healthy, put up some nice stats, and then flip them to contenders for picks.
Of course as it stands I will need to look at one of them as a keeper to give myself the right number of guys for next year.
But with 3 first round picks in next year's draft, and a solid slot of keepers, plus whatever I can get for Baron/Tracy, I think this ship is starting to gather some steam....Middle of the pack here I come baby!!!!

Anyone looking for a big-guy keeper? DeAndre Jordan is a pretty intriguing guy. I'll be glad to hold him all year and give him some spot starts, but he's gonna be hard for me to hang onto as one of my six keepers. Same goes for Ryan Anderson and Brandon Bass though.
We get 10 keepers, right?

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT
The 99 Cent Shooters are proud to announce another trade:
Barilko6 Trades:
Baron Davis Ref's 6th Round Pick

If anyone needs small parts for their playoff push, let me offer:
Derek Fisher: Nice 3's, assists, anf FG%
Francisco Garcia: A poor man's Ron Artest. Will help in steals(Avg. 2 over last 7) and blocks (Avg. 1.3 in last 7)
JaVale McGee: The guy who is getting rebounds that you have never heard of. Last 3 games has produced nice boards, OFFENSIVE BOARDS (3.8 pg), Blocks and decent points and steals
All these guys can be had for a moderate draft pick upgrade (not expecting anything much) OR an intriguing young prospect of sorts.

Both Cs and now my leader in steals (out a month). No one is gonna have any sympathy for the leasder, but it stinks to throw such a big lead away in basically two cats!

I'd part with McD for an exchange of draft pick next year.
Anyone need rebounding help... ORBs and DRBs? McD has averaged 8.4/10.7 (3.6 OBBs) over the past 15 days and even better 9.0/13.0 (5.0 ORBs) over the past 7 with increased PT. And, he will likely help your Fg%, too.
The top 5 are all fairly tight. Maybe this is a chance to gain some points in more than 1 category in your run up the standings?

Apparently what my team needed was to get Michael Redd injured. Using Guru's nifty link, my team is 8th in the league since Redd got hurt on 1/24.
Anyone looking for 3PM? James Posey (NO, SG/SF) is available. He averages about 1.5+ 3s per game. He's also pretty good in the steals category.

Does anyone have someone for sale who gets at least 1.5 SPG? I've got a third rounder for sale, nobody on my squad is really untouchable so even all my big rebounders. Guru...
We can make this simple and solve all problems right now.
Remove any conditions on the 3rd rounders. They happen this year no matter what. I am not sure why there are conditions on those anyways.
If you get that top 3 1st rounder this year, then I get your 1st rounder next year and you get my 6th next year.

I love the activity! When designing our leagues--that was key. Give owners room and the possibilities/resources so they can improve their teams. Make them deep so the WW thin. Make the teams themselves short so it takes strategy in deciding whether it's worth a drop in order to pick someone up--yet make the benches large enough so you can mature a young player or wait out an injury. Also make the max game senough that the entire team has to play instead of mostly the starters. I really like the way our leagues are set up right now and how the managers work to try new things to make something happen--either for this season or the future. It's a hopeless feeling when you can't improve your team much and you're out of it early.

My e-mail address that ESPN has on file (and I can't them to change it) is an old account that I use for spam or sites I don't trust.
Hopefully my injury prone squad can pull it together for a late push. I've dropped from being +1 to +3 games to being -33 games. The Gooden trade hurts also. Stupid salary dumps.

Well I'll put it this way... two directions. If you want Amare as a keeper, offer me up someone healthy and in the same ballpark as him and we can swap. If someone wants to add Camby for a stretch run in a league designed for him -- offer me up an injured player done for the year and/or with keeper potential for next year. Then I'll let the best of those offers decide which direction I should go. Do I fold or still try and make a push into the top 10.

Who is making trades without me?! :0 I'm trying though seriously, I now have no guys worth dropping and Amare on the bench, so I can't figure if I should even move him or not. If Turiaf/Andersen are going to get a good final 20 games between them then its almost as good as having Amare -- and then I get him for the long haul which is important. Esepcially since his injury wasn't a basketball injury (i.e. knee like Jefferson, McGrady etc), so I know he'll be fully healthy going forward and in that revived offense now that Porter's gone... decisions.

Alternately, Daniels for a first round pick would work. He should be nice the rest of this year, including contributing in the rare cats. He seems to have come out of his shooting slump (making threes now), and he's going to play good minutes with Dunleavy out and Granger's torn ligament limiting his minutes and Indiana thinking long term versus short term with him.

When is the trade deadline? My season has fallen apart due to injuries and a real life trade.
Hopefully now that Gooden has been bought out he will land with a new team. If not, I might have earned one of the worst trades of all time awards.

Tyson Chandler finally back from his long injury has sure helped. Now if Granger can only get back to full health. I don't know how many trade offers I've had for my injured players this year, but it's pretty smart. Fortunately, I've been able to hold out.
I think getting Mbah off waivers was the first time I've done that and the player comes in and pays immediate dividends. I'm used to it happening to others after I drop a player!

RSF wasn't kidding? rotoworld Marcus Camby has "fluid on the brain," which they believe is a result of his ruptured ear drum/ear infection, which has also been causing him migraines.

I'm in a free fall.
I have mixed thoughts on the Bargnani/Baron trade, I'll have to wait and see how it turns out.
The injuries are what have really hurt. I was just a bit above pace and started to scale back. Once all of the injuries hit I dropped way behind and I won't max out now. Those 30 games or so, might have gotten me back into contention, who knows.

On a side note, I managed to climb into the top 10 from dead last after New Years. But I timed the Camby thing all wrong, and he made all the difference since I was already behind in games and needing everyone healthy the last two months. I am excited to keep him though, cause even 60 Camby games (mixed with the other 20 from some random PF) comes out to some nasty numbers in this format.

Tyson Chandler has demolished me. He's supposed to be back tonight for one game. Also Turkoglu going down smarts. Have to have a G tonight who won't hurt me.
As long as my guys don't suck, I like my chances. But you just never know. I can lose points tonight in different categories and I can gain some. I jsut hope starting Skinner by mistake and having to miss Perkins game doesn't cost me the title. Could mean 3-4 points. It's that close.

This was my most disappointing season so far.
Heading into February I was in 6th place, in spite of missing Boozer since mid-November. With his return imminent, and having just swapped away McGrady for Hinrich and Gordon, I thought I was poised to make a nice run.
Then, within a week, Jameer Nelson and Al Jefferson both vaporized, as did my chances.
I don't know if I could have finished "in the money" or not, but instead, I've been in freefall for the last 2-1/2 months. No fun.

Yes, and I should take a point from you in rebounds. So there is a tie with that alone. So then it comes down to the other cats. That's why the inability to play Perkins yesterday could really hurt me. Cost me a point in FGP, OREB and BLKS. Doubt I can get those back tonight. Should be able to get REBs so I didn't count that. MIght also be able to get one in FGP but I don't know. A bad shooting night could also cost me a point. Same thing for FTP--where I've been bad lately. Still considering benching some players to try and protect that--but it has cost me already in the past couple weeks when I've done that. Doubt that I get that point back in steals as my guys just don't do that well on average--hence the 5. But I've crunched the numebrs and I am just hoping for no disasters and a little luck in key cats. I couldn't hold of bmd last season and key injuries have left me trying to patch up cats with FA scrubs. But it's all good. We all go thorugh that and I know going into the final day, I have a shot to win it. Have never been very good in hoops--so a title would be very gratifying.

KF,
All games give full credit for going over on the final day. There is no way to stop it from a technical aspect. It's always been like this for every game and every league I've ever played in. Shocked you didn't know it.
Think I might bench Chandler for today afterall. Going back and forth. I'm readying where he might only get 15 mins of PT and he's bound to be rusty. Picked up a guy who doesn't get mcuh PT normally (At times none) but when he does get some, he's pretty efficient and one of the starters is likely out tonight. Really tricky htough cuz his FTP is bad.

congrats Ref!
when I took over the team mid-season it was way behind in games played, so all I tried for the rest of the season was maximizing the games played without falling too deep. I only came short 14 games, so that was a pretty good job. finishing 8th isn't too bad either. I think I took over when I was in the 10-12 range and Guru was still in front of me. seeing Guru fall that quick shows me how fast a team can fall. and this can happen to me too. maybe it will, when I look through all the aging bodies on my team. I am still wondering what happened to Grant Hill. for the first time in his 14 years in the NBA he played in all 82 games. and that at age 36. can he repeat? does anyone want him?

Thanks guys. Looks like I beat BMD to be the first one to win all three of our deep Gurupie Leagues! This one might be the most rewarding since it's my weakest of the three.
As YR and Guru alluded, you can fall so fast since we have so many teams who are so bunched together. I went froma comfortable lead to third place pretty quickly.
Doing all the math yesterday, I had a good idea what I needed to get to maximize points and how far I could fall with a miserable night from my guys and good nights from my opponents players. The one cat. I felt I had the best cnce of gianing (outside of the sure point in Reb) was blocks. Was pretty frustrating watching the Portland/Denver game when Prz and Roy didnt play much while Birdman played a lot and racked up those blocks (including oen that counted which was really a goaltend). Jordan didn't get much run either even though his team was down 30.
However, my other guys did well enough in shooting to get me the two points max in FGP. Was going back and forth for that last point. Also got the point in steals. Then I was like, man I don't need them to play to get that point in block as it could give back a FGP or even a FTP. Then I saw RSF falling in other cats and I knew I had it.
Luck is so key. Perhaps not as much as the H2H in fotball from week to week in the finals--but still.
Finally, we have at least one opening in G24 Football. If you're interested, let me know.

Looks like there were three teams who didn't hit 90% of max games. Out of 720 max games those three had 603, 617 and 638 games played.
YR did an incredible job--going form the least used games when he took over to 713 GPs. Great job!

[284] Yeah, you have to be careful what kind of slackers you invite into your league, lol. My experience this year was that with as many games played as are required/allowed - 90 per slot - and with only four bench slots - with this many teams and this thin of a FA pool - if you get hit by injuries, it's pretty tough to make those games up, esp. by anyone worth rotating in and out the line up day in and day out. Caron B missed 15 games for me, Marquis Daniels missed 28, and Ginobili missed 38 games. After I traded Lee for Bynum, I missed most of the rest of his games, so covering their actual (82) games played was enough of a challenge with the thin FA talent pool, much less coming up up with an extra 8 games played per starter. On the self-incriminating side, most managers made more FA moves than I did and every once in a while life got in the way and Wade ended up on the bench instead of in the lineup as he should have been, due to trying to rotate a fringe player in to his spot on a night off to pick up an extra game.
Well, obviously lots of others were able to hit or approach the max, so perhaps this difficulty was more of an issue with my team for whatever reason than others.

[285] thanks! ESPN is supposed to save our lineups but it's always good to have a backup.
[286] I hate thinking my studs are in the lineup and finding out too late they aren't! I often will set my lineup in advance any time I have to pull one of them out of my lineup on a given day.
As for the ESPN site, it was actually better than expected in some areas and fell short in a couple other areas. The downside for me was the live standings page often locked up for me. The team page's live stats were great though. It would be cool if ESPN could fix the standings page. Also hated that you had to switch pages in order to see them rather than scorll down, etc. But would take it as it is rather than having the team page lock up!!! Also wish it would trend like CBS does. I have to figure out where I've gained/lost points at times and how many. CBS' live scoring is really nice--but they also are fee-based. NBA.com's is free though and at least their live standings set up is better.
The only other thing I can readily think of was the games max at 720 rather than 90/position. But with our set up of simply G, F and C, it really doesn't impact us much at all. So I am fine with that afterall.
I also wonder if the Craig Smith "glitch" to FA instead of Waiers was because he was picked up and released the same day--even though he played in a game that day.

Don't ruin a good story with facts Ref. My post in 293 was comparing you to Gladiator. The similarities are almost uncanny.

We've never had a tie for 6th before. Going to have to figure out the lottery draw.

Coinflip? Or what other tie-breaker makes the most sense?
Congrats Ref. Triple congrats on being the first person to will all 3 leagues, very impressive.
My season was going pretty well until injuries and real life trades came crashing down.

7th place team only gets 5 balls. Give one 2, and the other 3.
Or, since they presumably both get some prize money, exclude both from the lottery.

[306] is the issue. Both get to split prize money. My htought was either to flip to see who got the chance to get both or to exclude both. My guess would be to exclude since the original lottery idea was to give everyone a chance who didn't hit the prize money to get a chance at the lottery.
Also, with us not doing the plaque anymore and Mike D hitting the prize pool w/o being eligible, I need to get with Guru to see where we're at with excess cash.
What we used to do was throw a non-partcipant's winnings to the winner's winnings unless the winner was ineligible then we split it up. However a couple seasons ago we went ahead and moved everyone below him up and thre the $15 into the trophy fund. I assume we will do that again this season--but at some point, we may want to pass some of the excess out. Just want to keep enough in each season to take care of the trophy w/o having to pony up a buck each.
Anyhow, this would mean the two tied teams would divide up 5th place money--which gives them more than their entry fee back. So my guess is that wew ill exlude them and leave that spot open. If that spot comes up we will re roll. (Chances are almost nil that it would come up anyhow).

Oh wait. PP is inelieible too. So we then have half of 5th place and 6th place prize winnings now extra.

We actually have alot of money in the prize pool. Guru suggested that instead of distributing all that cash to the winners, we simply reduce next year's prize pool dues. I like that idea. Also, that's a better idea than moving guys up/down because a winner wasn't in the pool.
