This thread will be for discussion of the RIBC draft. Actual picks should be entered in the draft thread. A roster grid will be updated regularly.
The draft formally begins on Monday, March 1, but early picks are allowed. We will use a 6 hour clock, with a clock moratorium from 1am to 7am EST. Any skipped pick may be made up at the earliest opportunity. Managers are encouraged to make alternate arrangements when they might be unavailable to pick directly.
If sufficient progress is made during weekdays, we might relax the clock rules during the weekend. Decisions on this will be announced each Friday.
For those who might be unfamiliar with the league rules, refer to the predraft thread. In particular, post 62 provides a recap of the Yahoo league settings page.
The draft will continue for 25 rounds. Players who are unlisted in the Yahoo system may be drafted. If an unlisted player is drafted, that team must preserve an empty roster spot until the player is made available in Yahoo. Failure to do so will result in the loss of rights to that player.
After two rounds are completed, a separate draft rationale thread will be initiated. In that thread, each manager will provide a brief rationale for each pick, with about a 2 round lag.
If managers make alternate arrangements for upcoming picks (queues, etc.), notification should be made here.
This is a general draft discussion thread, and is not restricted to comments from league managers. However, managers and outsiders are requested not to discuss specific players who are as yet undrafted. Please restrict draft discussions to concepts, strategies, and already drafted players. |

I've been looking at Pierre since round 3. Obviously, he gets you a tough category, and look how high Gagne went. But the SLG totally scared me off. It's like Shaq and free throws.
Dotel was probably next on my list but I remember the last time he tried to close. If I recall, he was so bad they let Mike Jackson close. I wasn't going to take him over Mr. Automatic.

Species, I was looking 16 picks away because I had him right about where it looks like Slackjawed Yokel had him and he was standing out from all the other available hitters like a beacon. Hitting in COL again should raise his SLG a bit, so that would have been only of minor concern for me.

Guru, no, I did. LOL. I seem to have this problem this year with mixing up teams and players. What I should have said was that his SLG dropped off some when he moved from COL, but that he picked it up last year and I think it's a sign that it won't be as big of a problem as some think.

Like Guru noted in 164, my queue went Colon, Furcal, Cabrera, and that's the way the draft went. But the pre-edited/sent copy also included Pierre and Webb, the other two picks surrounding mine.

Tosh, I second that notion! Doing this 16 team and the 20 team draft at the same time with such great fantasy managers is really tough. No obvious player slips and sometimes you have to reach just to make sure you get the player you want that fits your team as there is little chance of him falling by the time it gets to you again! Talk about some serious brain cramps!

Houston...we have a problem, well, I do anyways. I think I just lost internet access from my desk at work altogether. There's this one computer that I get to share with about 200 people, but thats it :(
For whatever reason, originally pretty much all of the internet was blocked, then they let us have access to some "business related" sites, somehow I was able to access these boards and a few other sites, but now nothing. Not even business related sites! Who knows, maybe it'll change, but I may need some help with the rest of this draft.
For the people picking before and after me, or whoever else pays enough attention to this draft, I may need someone to email me a list of who's been picked since my last pick, then I can email you back with my pick and you can post it. Any volunteers? :(
Hopefully I'm just jumping the gun here and the "internet" will be restored, but its not looking good.

Since we're still waiting on Species anyway, I don't think you have any concerns, Trip. Even if you could make your pick immediately, darkside will supposedly be checking in around 9pm, which would just be 6 hours. As it is, you're still only 4th in line.

Hey,
sorry for the delay on Darkside's pick, I'll try to get the next one in much faster.
Also, if anyone could halp me out with a problem. I posted Darkside's placeholder in the rationale thread but I accidentally listed the pick as 5.15 instead of 3.15. I've tried changing it with the self edit link at the top of the thread but I couldnt scroll down to that message. It stops at the message before it. Thanks for your help and sorry again for the delay,
