0 Subject: RIHC 2009-10: Draft discussion

I will activate the draft momentarily. The clock will not start until Thursday morning, and any picks today are strictly optional. You can, however, begin to set up a queue if you expect timing conflicts tomorrow.

We will proceed with a 6 hour clock. The draft clock will continue through weekends. There will be a clock moratorium each night from 1am until 7am Eastern time. Picks can continue to be made during the moratorium period, but the clock will be paused. Those picking at the endpoints do not get a double clock. In addition, if anyone is already in arrears for a pick when their next pick is due, they do not necessarily get a second clock period. This will be subject to Commissioner discretion.

The draft is configured for only PG, SG, SF, PF, and C. Many players will be eligible for multiple positions; just choose the position designation that seems most appropriate. This is only for the purposes of displaying the draft results, and has no bearing on your eventual usage options.

Our roster configuration will be as follows:
PG, SG, G, G
PF, SF, F, F
C, C
Util, Util
3 bench
2 DL

Yahoo position eligibility will be used throughout the season. You are advised to check the Yahoo league site prior to selecting any player to ensure that you know that player's position eligibility at the start of the season.

You do not need to draft a completely valid roster.

Following the draft, all undrafted players will be placed on waivers, and waiver priorities will start out in inverse draft order.

You may draft a player who is not currently listed at Yahoo. If you do so, you will be assigned a placeholder player at Yahoo until the drafted player is made available, at which time you must pick up that player as a free agent (without using a waiver priority). After the 15 rounds of the draft are completed, you can no longer claim an unlisted player.

This league will have a limit of 84 games per position. Since there are 2 slots for each of G, F, C, and U, those position slots will be subject to a combined limit of 168 games.

Here are my ground rules for selecting from a queue: If you have a queue and make it available, and it is your turn to pick, I will make your pick if I'm around - unless you have provided specific instructions via email or in this thread. Therefore, do not make (or leave) your queue available if you do not want it used.

You can specify that only the top name on your queue is to be displayed, or that the entire queue is to be shown. If you make the entire queue visible, I'll certainly check for any emails that might provide additional instructions. You can also authorize a DP to make a selection "free-form" (i.e., typing in the name, rather than selecting from a preset list.) Presumably, you would elect this only if you provide specific instructions to your DP(s).

Regardless, be aware that your queue is not visible to me or to any other designated picker until it is your turn to pick.

Please refrain from mentioning any undrafted player in this thread. You can use this thread to alert others about your availability, to request volunteers to accept a queue, to raise questions about draft rules or mechanics, to solicit trade offers or announce trades, etc.

Based on recent drafts, it is reasonable to expect that we will complete approximately 24 picks (2 full rounds) per day. Do not assume that you'll have a day off.

After two rounds have been completed, I will start a separate thread for draft rationales. We will then try to keep the rationale thread on a 2 round delay.

Expanding on WonderB's post about how every player you consider seems to go right after your pick....I swear in rounds 2 through 5 players are flying off of the board that I was considering. I heavily considered Diaw last round but thought he might slip. Oh well.

Species: I spent several hours today agonizing over whether to draft Turkoglu or Salmons. I ended up drafting Turkoglu because I was hoping Salmons might slip to the next round.

Species, I had my hopes up that Salmons was going to fall to me since your roster seemed strong with SF/SG players. I figured I would take him and hope that Diaw falls back to me. But with Mike D`s 2 man queue empty, It appears that he was picking at least one of them.

left a 7 man queue. Good for only 8th round. Hopefully that is enough, if not I'll figure something else out.

Mike: Nice 13th round pick. Having Iverson available has been tormenting me these last few rounds, but he really really didn't fit my positional needs.

We should finish the draft tomorrow, hopefully. However, be aware that I will have limited internet access after 2pm ET on Friday, so if you are relying on a DP, it would be good to have someone else.

I'll try to have all players entered into Yahoo ASAP, after which all undrafted players will be on waivers for 2 days. I may decide to reduce the waiver period from 2 days to one day, just to enable F/A pickups in time for opening day. For that matter, 1 day may be ample for the entire season.

1 day works, especially when you consider that it really becomes 2 anyway. Someone gets dropped at 8am, picked up the next day, active the day after.

13.07 Drew Gooden
Gooden should provide 12 points and 7 or 8 rebounds for Dallas.

I've drafted for Jason as he had a player in his queue (who was on my short list of players). I assume that was OK. I didn't see any notices about drafting for him this round.

Here are the draft results I have entered in Yahoo:

http://basketball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nba/175020/draftresults?drafttab=team

Teams are not listed in the correct pick sequences, but each team's players should be correct. Please review your roster for accuracy. I'll plan to activate the league tomorrow.

# 152 Species,

Tosh took Speights, the pick before. I had him penciled in for my 14th round. I think Parker is a great pick at this stage. I would have taken him if you didn't.
