0 Subject: 2009 Baseball draft discussion thread

I'm going to be on the road Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully the hotel I'm stay at will have internet access. I will bring my lists with me, though, truth is, I'm sure I'll get my top guys cause y'all are a bunch of baseball morons! HA

I've asked Biliruben to call me when it is my turn, however, he may be indisposed at times. So I am going to leave my wife's cell phone number here so someone could call and bring me up to speed, then I'll tell them who the next NL or AL MVP will be. Here's the number Three 60- Five 62-117Two.

I'll be back Tuesday night, afterwhich I can be reached at TwoOh6-Six32-924Oh.

I assumed, as I'm sure others did, he was already taken.

I'll let others hurl indignities at Tree, if there is any hurling due.

here's one for ya bili -

with all the grief about ME picking somebody on the list, you just picked a guy who was drafted earlier this round.

nice job.

Funny, it always seems to me that you overstimate the likelihood of a prospect actually living up to the hype, and underestimate the production of anyone older than 27. That said, Hanley is only a few short years away from useless by your formula...heh.

bili..you will make me feel silly...if Schafer works out. I chose to drop him from my prospect keeper list due to lack of tools.

If I had known your offer was still on the table, Tax, I probably would have taken you up on it.

Nerve, did you have designs on Gordon Beckham, or would you have taken Anderson anyway?

I probably would have still landed Gordon had I made the trade, damn.

These damn internets seem to have educated the masses about who the high quality prospects are. I was accustomed to watching y'all pick clown after clown, now there are no secrets.

Damn, who extended invitations to these smart people?

For instance, just look at 2007.

I picked sixth and had my eye on obviously the best young arm on the horizon. Here are the clowns taken before him:

Yovani Gallardo
Matt Kemp
Andrew Miller
Hunter Pence
Evan Longoria

Whatever, guys, how could you pass on Phillip Hughes? Fools!

That anecdote and countless more to come is the reason why we draft on this board, son.

Got back from the gym. Still had the old prospect thread open. Flipped to a second tab, saw zen had picked.

Looked through my study materials for 20minutes.

Came up with my pick, went to the still open thread. Did the search and saw he was free.

Updated the thread to enter my pick and low and behold Zen had just inked him. Had to go back to the drawing board.

I'm outta here in a couple of minutes. My guess is it will take Tree a couple of hours to ponder, flip coins, call his wrestling buds and talk it over.

I'll check in at 1:30 pst, if not sooner.

At this late date could I drop Antonelli from my prospect keepers and pick another? Not a big deal. Prolly not, no harm askin.

Yup. I don't even know if you can drop a player from your prospect list except through a callup or when prospect keepers are declared.

Woo Hoo! I'm going to The Dance tomorrow in Portland, getting to see my Dawgs take on Miss St. and the Purdue v. No. Iowa game as well. How did the SEC Conference tourney winner end up a 13 seed? Ugh, I can't bear the thought of witnessing an upset. Bite'em DAWGS!

Do I have the option of putting Cameron Maybin back onto my prospect list?

The season hasn't started. There's no advantage I've gained by moving him off and back on again.

I still only kept three prospects.

The only thing it did was give me one less pick in the draft.

Seriously the list is so picked through I would just assume take my two picks and hold maybin onto the list and I can't think of a reason that would be a problem.

The only reason I had to add him at the end of the draft is to free up a slot but if I now chose not to use the slot...

What say King Solomen?

We don't have a callup/send down process for prospects. I think once you use a draft pick for him you've put him on your regular roster and that's that.
