for Smith32 19.01 Drew Bennett WR STL Bennett put up remarkable numbers in his first year in STL, with a stellar 375 yds on 33 catches and 3 TDs. Remarkable for making Rams management look like Matt Millen for signing him to a 6 yr, $30 million deal. I’m going to pay a lot less with hopes of a lot more. Somebody’s got to catch Bulger’s passes with Bruce gone and Holt likely to see more double coverage.

for IAC 19.04 Buffalo Bills DEF BUF Minor brain fart on this pick. Yes, I rank the Bills high, but I forgot to check bye weeks. Doh! Anyways, with Stroud now working the middle of the line, and with a team looking a lot more healthy than the group they had last year, this could be a big big year for this defense.

for deepsnapper 19.05 LaRon Landry DB WAS I drafted Landry with the expectations he's going to be the enforcer in the the Redskins secondary this season. I know he's good in the secondary, but I'd like to see his tackles increase also. Without Sean Taylor back there, his workload is sure to increase along the line of scrimmage.

for Slackjawed Yokel 19.07 Marcus Trufant DB SEA I had left a 2-man queue before the turn that consisted of Drew Bennett and Marcus Trufant. Bennett I thought had a lot of upside, as he has a chance to be a big option this year in StL. However, Trufant is probably more of a sure thing at his position. I wanted some more defensive depth, and Trufant will be able to fill in as a DB or flex defender as bye weeks/injuries allow.

19.08 Sammy Morris, RB, NE Adding depth at RB. I had originally planned to grab DeShaun Foster as a Gore handcuff in this round, but those plans went up in smoke awhile ago. No big deal.
Assuming he is healthy (and that seems to be the prevalent assumption)- Morris should have some value even if Maroney stays healthy. Last season, he was getting 10-12 carries per game even when Maroney was playing, and two of his three TDs were also when he was Maroney’s second. Unfortunately, the sample size is small, as Morris suffered a sternum-clavicle separation in week 6, ending his season.
As my fifth RB, he should be a playable option in a pinch, and if Maroney gets hurt, his stock would rise dramatically.

for Slowhand 19.09 Chris Baker TE NYJ I debated a little more defense with this pick but decided to get a back-up TE. I rarely get a back-up for this position but Favre has pretty often made good use of his TEs. I don't expect to use him much if at all,but if he ends up being used as a "relief valve" while Favre picks up the new offense at least he can fill in my bye week.

for fugazi 19.11 Greg Olsen TE CHI I think this is a good late draft snag.
Will this be the year that the Bears 2007 1st round pick breaks out with 1000 yards and 10 tds? Hell no - not even close. But he will give me an option to Scheffler. And he gives Orton an option other than getting sacked and beat up.

for Nerfherders 19.13 Robbie Gould K CHI Gould continues to defy the weather he is forced to play in, racking up high percentages for kicks, especially 40+ kicks, which he was 12-14 last year. I can see why everyone leaves kickers for last: the quantity of kicks is completely unpredictable and the difference between the best and the worst kicker is negligible. But I like to have a kicker who is considered one of the best, and Gould certainly fits that description.

for electroman 19.14 Morlon Greenwood LB HOU Greenwood went over the 100 total tackles mark for the 4th year in a row, so I expect him to do it again. I was looking for another LB, more of a sure guy, by that I mean a guy who has a history of putting up points, and Greenwood filled that slot. He doesn’t do anything much more than tackle though, only downside. 20.01 Michael Lewis DB SFO Had in my mind that I would go back to back IDP with these two picks. Decided with DB over DL because I found that in other years, I would only carry one DL, and it worked out. Everytime I added one, they were the first to be cut, more of a space taker. I decided on Lewis because I know about him from his days with the Eagles. Had a solid season with the niners last year, and should keep it up.

for Nerfherders 20.02 Adalius Thomas LB NWE I made a slight mis-calculation with my LB in the fact that two of them share a bye week. This forced me to grab a fourth LB, and there wasn't much left. Thomas is more of a pass-rushing LB so his points are based largely on sacks. I should only need him for fill-in duties.

for Slowhand 20.06 Deion Branch WR SEA Still on the PUP list and likely to remain there into the season this is certianly a bit of a flyer; but in round 20 I think he's worth a pick and stash him on the bench in hopes he plays (and possibly returns kicks) later in the season in case one of my starters goes down. It's a long shot but at this point in the draft may be worth it.

20.07 Josh Cribbs, WR, Cle
Listed as a WR, but really only a kickoff and punt returner. Last year, that was still enough to rank him #21 in total points among all WRs, even though he caught only 3 passes the entire season. He’s currently out with a high ankle sprain, and is questionable for week #1, but I won’t likely need him that soon anyway – even though my WR4 (Engram) won’t be available for week #1 either.

20.08 Andre Davis, WR, Hou
I had a couple of sleepers that I had listed based on their kick-return duties. Davis stands out in that he also will earn points on the offensive end of the ball. Should Andre Johnson's injuriy problems continue/resurface he'll be even that more valuable. I wasn't sure how long I could sit on these guys, and with Guru taking Cribbs with the previous pick I didn't want to wait any longer.

for Bags 20.12 Darrelle Revis DB NYJ I loaded up my team with LB IDP's this year. To get the LB’s I wanted I had to hold off on some positions. for SMith32 20.14 Champ Bailey DB DEN 19 rounds gone by, and I am DB-less. Time to fill out the roster. Bailey is a play-making DB who racks up a decent number of tackles, PDs and interceptions. He only had 2 picks last year after averaging 9 the previous 2 years. If he can maintain his tackle numbers and revert back to form in the INT department, he should be well worth a 20th round pick.21.01 Mike Vrabel LB NWE Another veteran for my team. Vrabel is mediocre when it comes to tackles (and declining), but he throws in some sacks (12.5 last year) and other glory stats and catches a few offensive TDs each year, which is fun. I think he scored nearly 30 pts in one painful (for Skins fans) game last year.

I just like the name.
Seriously, he’s also a DB with a week 5 bye week, both which will afford optimum flexibility in managing my IDPs. And I do have him ranked as the top available DB. And even though he’s been injured (hamstring) for most of August, he has started practicing this week. And as my 7th IDP, I shouldn’t need to start him in week #1 if there is any doubt (assuming the other 6 are healthy).
But mostly, I just like the name.

for Slowhand 21.09 Chris Taylor RB HOU The running back situation in Houston is a mess. Ahman Green (who I drafted earlier) took a pay cut to stay on the team...Chris Brown is not expected to make the 53 man roster cut; and now they're saying Slaton is out with turf toe.
The way I look at it I've got 2/3rds of the possible starting backfield and at this point most of the sources are saying Taylor may be in the lead for most of the carries.
Hopefully when the bye weeks roll around Taylor or Green can provide me with a viable sub.

In the last turn (19-20) I was going to take a backup QB but realized I was the only team without one, so I decided to wait, and here I waited again, thinking a backup TE was more important. This is a spec pick mostly, thinking a young guy with upside might do well enough to be a fill-in. It seems he will get plenty of opportunities, maybe even start.

22.07 Shayne Graham, K, Cin I planned all along to wait until the end to take a kicker, and that’s essentially what I’ve done. My picks in rounds 23 and 24 will most likely be speculative picks, or placeholders to drop in favor of early season F/A pickups. So this pick probably represents the last player who will actually “make the cut”.
I wanted a late bye. Graham’s is week 8, and although there are a few with later byes, I figured eight is enough. He’s accurate, and if the Cincy offense has trouble pushing it into the end zone, he could get some extra FG opportunities. Conversely, if they have trouble getting into FG range, then I’ll just swap him for someone else. In all likelihood, a top-5 kicker (or two or three) will be undrafted anyway.
I considered Mason Crosby as well, but figured that kickers never repeat.

for Smith32 22.14 Randy McMichael, TE, STL
As I mentioned in my Drew Bennett rationale, someone is going to have to catch some passes in the St Louis offense other than Jackson and Holt. I don’t know whether it will be Bennett or McMichael or someone else. McMichael should catch enough to make him worth starting when Watson is on bye, injured or facing a tough matchup. And under the best case scenario, he becomes a key part of their offense, and then he could surpass Watson and be my starter. Seems like decent potential for Rd 22.
23.01 New Orleans Saints, DEF
For this pick I looked at the NFL schedule and tried to find a team that played against a lot of shaky offenses. In addition to divisional games against QBs that consist of an old man, a guy whose arm might fall off, and a rookie, they play the NFC North (4 lovely QBs there), the AFC West, the Redskins and the Niners. Other than SD and Denver, I don’t see a scary offense in there. I don’t think the Saints are that good on D, but with their bumbling opponents, they won’t have to be that good.

And since he plays for the 49ers he should stay busy returning kickoffs (actually, I'm not even sure if their D is that bad, I just felt like talking some trash at this point in the draft to keep it interesting).

Just making speculative pick here. Could have value if Westbrook goes down.

for Slowhand 23.09 Chris Harris DB CAR At this point I'm just looking for some depth and players with an upside. Harris had 10 games last year with 5 or more solo tackles and 8 forced fumbles. I just hope I have him in if he returns 1 for a TD.

McIntosh is another player coming off injuries last year. But when he was healthy, he PRODUCED. Obviously, I am hoping that he is over the shoulder and knee injury.

Can you believe Bart Scott is still here in round 23? His numbers were a little down last year but he is still pretty young. His best years may still be ahead of him.

for Nerfherders 23.13 Dominic Rhodes, RB IND I wasn't planning on getting another RB but at the last minute I changed my mind, thinking some depth wouldn't be a bad idea. It was actually a bit of a surprise to see Rhodes still on the board, as he has had success as a backup in the past and will be #2 behind Addai. Between Rhodes and Betts I have two very good backups who will see significant time if their #1's have any injuries.

for electroman 23.14 James Hardy WR BUF Was looking for some depth at WR with these picks. I choose Hardy because from what I have read, he could have an imediate impact with Buffalo. He hasn’t been too healty this preseason, but from what I read, when he played, he was able to get involved in the offense. 24.01 Chris Henry WR CIN I picked Henry here because I figured that he could be on my bench for the first few weeks, and should be worth the space. Don’t know if Chad Johnson or Ocho Cinco whatever his name is now, will be healthy all year, so Henry could be a starter this year.

for Nerfherders 24.02 Darnell Dockett, DL AZ This is purely a spec pick, just looking for some depth at IDP. I am hoping I have the same luck with Dockett as I had with Cole last year, whom I took with the last pick.

for fugazi 24.04 Shaun McDonald WR, DET
Crazy Martz is gone but Calvin Johnson or Roy Williams will get hurt, and when they do McDonald could be the man to step up. Some slight chance he could fill in on bye weeks for me. Doubtful but I couldnt find LB Bobby Bouchet in the draft data base so Im just using McDonald as a place holder for now.

Kickers are a crapshoot...but Rackers has a big leg, kicks indoors and is part of an offense that could score lots.

for Slowhand 24.06 Cato June LB TB June's numbers were way down last year (his first with TB) but he didn't start every game and was learning a new system. If he can return to his Indy stats of 2004 - 2006 I'll be very happy to have picked him up.

24.07 Jason Wright, RB, Cle
I really thought Slowhand would take Wright with his last pick, given that he has Jamal Lewis, and Jamal Lewis has a sore hamstring.
Once again, this is strictly a speculative pick. Wright is unlikely to have any value unless Jamal Lewis is injured. The chances are probably good that – barring a Lewis injury in the early weeks – Wright will be dumped sooner than later in favor of some hotter prospect.
I ended the draft without a bye week QB. My 2 QBs are the Dallas tandem of Romo/Johnson, and they don’t have a bye until week 10. I couldn’t imagine taking a marginal QB as a bye-week filler and holding him for 9 weeks. I’ll just take my chances when the time approaches.
I also have no backups at TE, DL, or K. I didn’t consider any of those positions worthy of tying up a bench slot. Those three players all have different bye weeks, and I plan to manage those on the fly.
I also have AZ as my only defense. When I looked at the options available, I couldn’t come up with any reason to want to draft any of them now. (You might say the same thing about Arizona, I realize.) If I strike lighting in a bottle with any of my speculative RBs or WRs, maybe I’ll have someone to trade for a better defense. Or maybe one of the undrafted defenses will turn out to be playable.

Looking for a backup at the DL position, as I only had Patrick Kerney. Didn't spend too much time on this - simply sorted DL's by sacks and picked him.

for holt 24.09 Yeremiah Bell DB MIA Who? Supposed to be a hard hitting well rounded SS. Could get a lot of tackles and a lot of bonus points (sacks, fumbles, etc.). Kind of a random pick I guess. Pacman was my only DB at that point so I just went for a sleeper at that position.

for deepsnapper 24.10 Kolby Smith RB KAN
Kolby is one of those picks that you take on a "what if" basis. What if LJ goes down in KC? Kolby will get the carries. Otherwise, he's trade bait or about #3 for the WW.

for Bags 24.12 Jesse Chatman, RB, NYJ I can't remember if I have ever kept my last pick the whole season. I just went with a RB who I thought might have a chance to play if his team's starter goes down.
I thought that this was an excellent draft by everyone. A lot of the players I thought would be available as sleepers late in the draft were drafted before I could get them. I think it is a credit to the quality managers we have in this league.

for Da Bomb 24.13 Michael Bennett RB TAM
Only picked him because I have Earnest Graham. I'm not quite sure how Gruden plans to use his 3 RBs but depending on how many carries Bennett gets, he has a good chance to be my first drop.

for Smith32 24.14 Mr. Irrelevant (David Akers), K, PHI
To me, kickers are all about the same and unpredictable. So I wait until the last round and try to get someone who plays in an offense that can move the ball. Philly should score some points this year, Akers is pretty accurate, and their games are always on TV in my area.
