2009 Season Discussion
It's that time again. E-mails are going out to last year's managers and their intent to return. Already one manager will not be coming back and I've been unable to reach another manager for 2-3 months.
If you have recommendations for replacement managers, e-mail me. |

It was nice participating in this league since it's inception.
Thank you REF and ST. LOU for all the hard work y'all put into running and maintaining this league.
Good luck to all and somebody work my old team better than I did. ;-)

My squad is looking thin right now, and I would strongly consider moving Chris Johnson for 2 starting RB's. Although I may wait to do this til after the draft. I need to break up my Jets WR's so the duo is going to be Chris Johnson + Cotchery/Holmes for 2 RB's. If you've got the two RB's to offer, lets talk.

Thanks for the invite- I have a couple early questions- (1) when do we select keepers and where can I see all the existing rosters? (2) I know it is kind of rare but what draft picks would you get as replacements if you decide to retain less than 9 keepers- i.e are the compensatory picks at the start of round 1 or at the end of the draft? ( after going 20-61 the last 3 years this team is close to not having 9 keepers). Actually if its not a lot of trouble I too would like to jetison the old baggage and drop the Atlanta name in favor of Carolina. Yes I know Hotlanta is a much better place than Durham or Charlotte and my new team might emulate Duke football not basketball but 20-61 and still in a declining trend needs a new appelation as well as new blood.

Valk, you have an invite from CBS emailed ot you. As soon as you sign in you will be all set. You may keep less than 9 keepers but you don't receive any replacement picks. If you need mroe keeps, you can certianly trade for them or even trade for extra picks or both.
Carolina is an acceptable team change for you under our rules. This team was a top team one season but has struggled since. But we've had one team who NEVER made the playoffs only to win the championship and a lot of playoff turnover. Clever moves and selections can move your team up quickly. IIRC it was like 5 of the 8 playoff teams were not in the playoffs the season before. The top draft picks can really make a huge difference in this league and we have it set up so teams can really change things up. Definitely not an "all is lost" type of situation.

I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who is willing to trade what would be a keeper for you in exchange for a later round draft pick swap. You might even be able to do a one-for-two (or three) trade to add some depth to your roster.

Not complaining guys- I never thought it would be easy- One player in the top 70 or some depth anywhere might have been nice but on the flip side I do get to remold the whole roster. GO if you are interested I will most likely give you any 3 players you want off my roster for C. Johnson plus any Jet WR with only a few positional replacement restrictions. I will also consider anyone wanting to trade me multiple low end keeper types for what for what they perceive as quality LOL. Let the rebuild begin- PD, I predict you and I will wage a fierce battle or relative equal teams again this year LOL.

It might be helpful to review the transactions from last year to see what kind of moves are made, although I'm not sure they'll show if draft picks were included in trades or not, look at last years draft for the league (you can find it in the football standings forum on rotoguru), and look at last years keepers (in football forum) and you'll have a good idea of value of players etc.
With 24 teams, bye weeks, and scarcity at some positions, the value of players not normally looked at actually have value.
Welcome to the league, especially the team formerly known as the Rams as you are in the awesome South division :)

Btw, I have too many keeper-rated players. Take a look at my team and I bet we can come up with something. I agree with Cards that you should look at last years moves/trades/dsicussions/picks to see what kinds of things go on in this deep league. MIght help you determine value, etc.

Not to worry guys- I am familiar with deep leagues and won't be making any really bad deals that disrupt the balance of the league- I do not have a lot of experience with total rebuilds though and was just a little dismayed by the absence of building blocks on this team and the aging of all my better players but the NFL turns over fairly quickly and any roster can be repaired in a couple of years. Just to let everyone know- I am trading for the future and not this year, everyone is available but the young QB's will cost. Guys like LT, Driver and Mare may really help contenders now and can be had for fair prices.

If anyone has a QB slot they want to fill before declaring keepers, Delhomme is available for a draft pick upgrade. If no takers, I'll keep him myself, but he'll cost more post-keepers than pre-keepers.

**Rumor has it that gshade's chiefs will be selecting Sam Bradford with the #1 overall choice in the 2010 G24 draft.**
There are a few trade scenarios that I would gladly entertain...
1) Trade Campbell, QB, OAK for an aging veteran QB upgrade. Sit Bradford on the bench for 1-2 yrs (but of course playing him vs. the lions). Farve, McNabb, etc??? Perhaps a 3 way trade could be worked out (slizz, pd - u guys need qbs right?)
2) Package #1 overall + 1 of QB/WR/RB for top 4 pick + 1 of QB/WR/RB. I really like available rbs: spiller, best, & matthews.
3) anything else. always fun to make/receive offers. I won't be offended by anything.
...I'd like to upgrade my team for this year, but see the long-term value of Bradford. If all remains status quo, he will be the pick.

Looked at last year's draft and this year NFL schedule and it appears that it is the same as last.
Historically we have Keepers due the day after the last game of the 2nd full preseason week. We then used to allow several days before we started our draft--but when we added IDPs, we made the draft start the day after keepers are due.
This season week 2 of preseason concludes on Mon Aug 23--which would make Keepers due by Noon ET on Tues Aug 24. The draft last season began at 3:00 ET the following day. For our newcomers, with a league this deep, obviously the later we can draft to have the most info possible is a huge help. We have to weigh that against getting through the draft. Last season we finished up on the Sat before the first game (Thurs). Obviously Fri and Sat are our slowest days.
With that in mind, we can actually wait a day and start on Thurs if we can keep the same schedule. I want to be sure there are two days after the draft to make sure we have time to get ready for the season and allow the WW to run (1 full day for that). But we are still able to pick up and drop players not involved in that Thursday game.
So without objection, Keepers will be due Tues Aug. 24 by Noon ET. Will have a thread up well before then where managers may post and edit them up until deadline.
Give me feedback on if you'd rather start the draft on Wed Aug 25th or Thurs Aug 26th. The advantage to waiting include more research time after keepers are announced and non-keepers thrown back into the pool as well as breaking news on players. Advantages to starting as early as possible are to get it going in case something big should happen that slows us down. But with our cumulative clock and track record, we should be ok. Still some want to get drafting asap.

OK, time ot talk shop.
My team is really really deep with 12-13 potential keepers. I'm looking to move a couple of them for an upgraded player. I do have interest in various players for draft picks only and it may come down to that in the end.
QB: Favre. Have some interest in him, obviously, but looking to keep him at this time. Backup QBs that good are like gold in this league. If it can make my team better then I will listen to offers though.
RB: Addai, F. Jackson and R. Williams. Obviously I can't afford to drop any of these players but might be able to trade one i nthe right situation. Addai isn't the back he once was but still outcarries Brown by a 3-1 margin and gets all the goal line carries. FJ is out for the rest of the preseason. He was greta last season but may lose some 3rd down carries to CJ this season. Still starting RB who has shown what he can do is huge. RW will split carries again ut we all know that Brown might go down at any point again. He does well when he splits--but if he's by himself watch out.
WR Collie and Berrian. Berrian is healthy again and Favre back take his stock way back up again. Returns are big as well. Indy WRs play a lot more than most and Collie has a way of making the big play. 2nd year now. AGonz is back and Garcon doesn't play the slot. Collie can play any position if need be.
TE: TGonz. I probably will not trade him.
K: Crosby has hte most tries of all Ks including 50+ tries. Most of his misses are from beyond 50.
DST: Tenn D. Probably will not trade them unless it is part of a multi-deal that brings a D back to me. Open to ideas.
IDP: Harrison, Cushing, Wilson, Thomas. I probably will not trade Harrison or Cushing. Again open to ideas. Harrison is one of the premiere LBs in our game and Cushing was a huge steal for me last season. Doesn't matter if Cushing is out for beginning as he will be a long-term keeper. Wilson and Thomas scored nicely.

To be clear, Favre is NOT available for a draft pick. You want to upgrade your QB, well I want to upgrade my RB/WR. Can also throw back a RB or WR or two in the deal. If you need better keepers, I can certianly offer you great dpeth and obvioulsy more points overall than you'd get from a stud and 2 or 3 scrubs.
There are some players I will take draft picks for. Have one of the best Ks in the game but no space. Might also not be able to keep my 2nd best IDP in Cushing. Several more, but getting some head-scratching offers lately.

Now that's the kind of trade I've been looking to see. Looks like w win win for both teams. Offers to my guys have been so far below market value I will be dropping them instead. Should really help me as other players in the top rounds will be available when my pick comes up.

Another nice trade. This has been the least amount of trade activity before the keeper deadline that I can recall. FWIW, I think Favre is better than Palmer for this season. :)

RE: McGahee, I'd really like to keep him as he's only 28 with several teams trying to get Bal to trade him to them. He will be a late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder if dropped, so keep that in mind if you have an interest.
I have the 3 headed RB group with Cadillac, Bush and Slaton already so if someone wants to land two of them in a trade for a slight upgrade at RB to me, shoot me an offer.

I am new to this league but that sure seems like an excessively high price to pay for Carson Palmer Frick you are a thief LOL. 2010 Fantasy Football Outlook- From Rotowire At this point in his career, Palmer is only a starter when you have a bye week or an injury. He’s not even a week-to-week matchup play now coming off the horrendous 2009 season. The Bengals have an extreme lack of offensive weapons beyond Chad Ochocinco and are now a defensive-oriented team that relies on a running game and seeks to keep scores manageable. So Palmer is thus a name brand with little fantasy value outside of that.

Thanks for the emails & offers I've received. Just to make it more clear, I'm not willing to part with my 2011 first rounder. I got into this deep hole by continuing to trade away my top pick for good, but ultimately average, position players. So the buck really needs to stop even if that means I pass on a good position player this year to fill one of my obvious roster holes.
That all said, this is an excellent time for a manager to really move up in this year's draft for a player you might be considering dropping already--I've got top picks in about every round, and I have two second round picks.

Just wondering - Is there any penalty for not posting your keepers on the forum thread- 1/3 of the teams are yet to post with the deadline tomorrow- It really makes it hard to judge who will be left when people don't post timely.

PD, you still interested in Delhomme?
I might also be willing to move Vincent Jackson, he's a bit undervalued since he's going to miss some games this year, but keeper talent is clearly there.
Might have one or two other thoughts if neither of those appeal but those seem the best options... about to grab dinner, email me.

Derrick Mason 1000 yards Charles Woodson League MVP, #1 DB Kirk Morrison, 100 tackles every year.

83: required to post them by Noon ET tomorrow. Some more housekeeping on keepers. If you change them, you must delete your previous thread and list them again. If your posts are not your final keepers, they should be removed. Should only be 24 replies in there so we can go through and see who has their keepers in on time so we can get to the site and run the keepers and get the site set up for the draft. Also got to get the schedule set up and manually loaded into the db and i takes awhile to check that for mistakes and it is so easy to make mistakes that it always happens.

90: usually we count the number of keeper posts and then figure out who hasn't posted, but that thread is a mess this season so not sure how many we are short for sure just yet. If it's only three then we are in good shape as those three managers have been actively dealing and should be no issue. 91: correct as stated in keeper thread 92: Since the 4.15 was made in trade response and not offer, I will need a confirmation from frick before I can process the trade. Man, what I was willing to take for Berrian before now no longer is relevant. I will be keeping him after all. I wanted to anyhow--just wasn't sure who I'd toss. I would definitely be doing some things different if I managed some of the teams, but what's great is that we all have differing ideas and values on players and I am sometimes off-base just like everyone else. Last chance to get a deal on:RB Fred Jackson (scored over 1000 yds last season and still listed as Buffalo starting RB and will be ready for week 1 though he has company). Planned on keeping him and will still love to keep. WR Austin Collie (Has been the best slot guy in camp and outplayed Garcon and AGonz. AGonz could move to WR2. Still merky at wideout for sure). I simply don't have room to keep. K Mason Crosby (top 4 or 5 projected K). definite Keeper but numbers game. LB Brian Cushing (if not for 4 game suspension one of the top projected points getter IDP). I'm still trying to figure out a way to keep him. Who do I cut for him????

Trade announcement:
Doug's Oakland Raiders trade:
Jake Delhomme + 4.12 + 5.12
to
Perm Dude's Cleveland Browns for
2.24 + 4.21
And a conditional pick (this is where ref tears his hair out):
If Delhomme is a top 20 QB (per CBS rankings) at the end of 2010, Oakland and Cleveland will swap 2011 first round picks. If he is top 21-25 we swap second round picks. 26+ we swap third round picks. This conditional swap is nullified in the case that the Browns finish ahead of the Raiders at the end of the 2010 season.

OK made it back.
Your Keepers may not be changed after Noon UNLESS You made a deal that was accepted before that time and then you may only change that traded player.
It's crazy how much back and forths I've had in the past 30 mins. One just responded two mins ago and was bummed cuz he didn't get one of my responses until it was too late. Weird how everyone put things off so late, but I'm proud that I dropped players instead of taking the lowball offers as it should help me more in the top part of the draft which is the most important anyhow.

Doug and PD, I've processed your deal and noted it in the rules. Please double check it. I need to go back and edit the conditions to save space, but I can do that later. Check both '10 and '11 traded picks in the rules. Can everyone please delete their posts that are no longer valid in keepers? DS usually cleans up posts when there are mistakes or people can't delete because they posted from a different computer, but he is unable to do so. I need to figure out if all 24 teams are accounted for, so I can start double checking things on CBS and dump all non-keepers with a click of a button.

Trade notes in rules looks good to me... "CBS Rankings" could just be replaced with "G24 scoring" to be clear... it's if he's top 20, etc. based on our scoring rules, rankings to me could imply something else. I'm not terribly worried about it, I think we all know what the intent is here.
I noticed Slackjawed didn't post Ted Ginn in the thread (I assume a drop since he lists 9 keepers).
Keepers posted in the other thread in this sequence. Coldwater and slackjawed have "edit" posts that modify previous posts (ideally those would be deleted and consolidated into 1 new post). Any of the ones marked with * are I think superceded by later posts and probably should be deleted.

Huge help Doug and PD!!! All 24 have posted in time. The two who posted after the deadline only replaced players who were legally traded prior to the deadline. I think if there would have been a later deadline, there would have been more deals, but we have to cut it off at some point and we do need time to get the site set up. I am not going through to see that the keepers match. I will go through and make sure there are 9 checked. If there are mis-marked keepers you need to alert us BEFORE the draft starts. The keeper thread is official.

Non-Keepers have now been processed. A couple forgot to mark their keeps so it took me a little longer.
Schedule is done and has been posted here: 2010 G24 Schedule.
The schedule is coded and is based on the order of finish in your division at the end of the regular season. There is a SOS factor for two games based on last season's finish. I will get it uploaded into CBS soon. The post is pretty self-explanatory. Feel free to post in that thread as well. If you see any issues, let me know.

Vikings do not own a 4th round pick via this trade: 12-3 Vikings receive 49ers' 1st for his 4th (Maroney/Ringer)
therefore, this trade is now in question and needs to be adjusted asap: 8-24 Packers get Vikings 4.15 for their 6th roudner (McGahee)

The table above is what I have for the draft order accounting for all the traded draft picks.
PLEASE review asap and let me know if anyone sees any errors or omissions as this will be used during the draft.

The McGahee trade did not include a return pick. I was short one due to previous trades so now should have 11 picks again.

Concur, I already have more picks than I need. I have 12 picks atm. It is possible that will swap some picks, but don't the rules state that a pick will be automatically skipped if a team has a full roster?

I'll make the change pending a confirmation from Frick. Thanks.

I made the change and changed it in the rules as well.
Once you have made your 11 picks your draft is over. You can trade extra picks before your draft is over and before that pick comes up. So if you found someone a pick short you could trade 2 picks for an upgrade in one of your picks.

That's why I sent that email out!
On the McGahee trade it has 6 in there and ersponse said 4th. Maybe it was a 6th and then changed to a 4th (and ultimately a 3rd). If that's the case, there is no problem amending that.
Yes there are teams who intentionally go into the draft with more draft picks than needed in hopes of trading for higher picks.
